Portable Antenna Jaw Mount
Thank you for purchasing and using the Chameleon Antenna
TM
Portable Jaw Mount. The Portable Jaw Mount has been designed and manufactured to offer versatility for installation of Chameleon portable antennas. It will enable construction of either a broadband portable vertical or dipole antenna using the CHA MIL
extension pole. The Jaw Mount is the perfect accessory for the Modular Portable Antenna System (MPAS) 2.0.
Broadband Dipole using the Portable Antenna Jaw Mount
The Broadband Dipole configuration uses the Hybrid Micro, two CHA MIL EXT 2.0 extension poles, and two
CHA MIL WHIP 2.0 collapsible whip antennas. The Broadband Short Dipole doesn’t use the two CHA MIL EXT 2.0 extension poles. The advantage of the dipole configuration is there are no radials required enabling quick setup. The broadband dipole, made with the Jaw Mount, is ideal for EMCOMM and can provide communication using Near-Vertical Incident (NVIS) skywave propagation. To construct the portable broadband dipole using the Jaw Mount, perform the following procedure:
1. Rotate the flange on the Jaw Mount to the orientation needed.
2. Using the supplied Allen Wrench, tighten the two hex bolts on the Jaw Mount.
3. Insert the 3/8” stud of the Hybrid Micro through the hole in the flange of the Jaw Mount.
4. Place the washer over the 3/8” stud of the Hybrid Micro on the other side of the flange.
5. Thread the Coupling onto the 3/8” stud of the Hybrid Micro and tighten.
6. Thread the 3/8” stud from one of the CHA MIL EXT 2.0 extension poles (for the Broadband Dipole) or CHA MIL WHIP 2.0 antennas (for the Broadband Short Dipole) into the opposite side of the Coupling and tighten.
7. Thread the 3/8” stud of the other CHA MIL EXT 2.0 extension pole (or CHA MIL WHIP 2.0 antenna) into the top of the Hybrid Micro and tighten.
8. Attach both CHA MIL WHIP 2.0 whip antennas, if not already attached.
9. Attach the coaxial cable to the Hybrid Micro.
10. Clamp the Jaw Mount to the Support.

Broadband Vertical using the Portable Antenna Jaw Mount
Portable Antenna Jaw Mount
The Broadband Vertical configuration uses the Hybrid Micro, CHA MIL EXT 2.0 extension pole, and a CHA MIL WHIP 2.0 collapsible whip antenna. The Broadband Short Vertical doesn’t use the CHA MIL
EXT 2.0 extension pole. The advantage of the
vertical configuration is only one CHA MIL EXT 2.0 and CHA MIL WHIP 2.0 is required, the antenna has omni-directional coverage, and it can provide long distance communication using skywave propagation. To construct the portable broadband vertical using the Jaw Mount, perform the following procedure:
4. Place the washer over the 3/8” stud of the Hybrid Micro on the
other side of the flange.
5. If using a radial, the terminal ring can be attached to the 3/8” stud of the Hybrid Micro or attached with a nut and bolt to the small hole in the Jaw Mount Flange.
6. Thread the one of the Nuts included with the Hybrid Micro onto
the 3/8” stud of the Hybrid Micro and tighten.
7. Thread the 3/8” stud of the CHA MIL EXT 2.0 extension pole (for the Broadband Vertical) or the CHA MIL WHIP 2.0 antenna (for the Broadband Short Vertical) into the top of the Hybrid Micro and tighten.
8. Attach the CHA MIL WHIP 2.0 whip antenna, if not already attached.
9. Attach the coaxial cable to the Hybrid Micro.
10. Clamp the Jaw Mount to the Support.
