The ground breaking Cerious

culminated in the development of
entirely new technologies, both in
design and production execution.
Conceived as a tour de force of
acoustic and material sciences, the
C
CR project required a dedicated
production facility different from any
other ever constructed for the
production of high end audio
components.
Planning and constructing
production facilities from scratch
meant that a decision must be
faced, build two distinct production
areas, one for the CCR project and
another for products utilizing
traditional carbon fiber techniques,
or tailor all models to be
constructed exclusively employing
CCR fabrication topologies.

Delighted with the performance and
aesthetics of the original Too and
prototypes of the Cerious
would be left up to the design team
to research and produce working
models employing CCR techniques.
Their only constraints were to meet
specific price points and production
efficiencies. No one, including the
design team, was fully prepared for
what was about to be created.
Too too Good?
The Cerious
complex to construct due to its cast
ballistic ceramic and Kevlar tube
construction. Each piece must be
perfectly cast, as no machining is
possible after full cure. The CCR/

design team chose a
compromise approach. The
ballistic ceramic is so structurally
rigid it renders a fiber casting
skeleton structurally insignificant.
Essentially a hollow cabinet with
channels is constructed of very thin
fiber based materials and the
cabinet is cast by filling the
channels with synthetic ballistic
ceramic. This results in a finished
cabinet ready for Kevlar
compression wrapping. While
unable to control sophisticated
changes in ceramic density like the
CCR, the results were stunning.
Placed next to the original
C
erious
package is visually stunning. The
sonic difference is shocking. The
C
CR construction shows its lineage
with greater ease, dynamics,
coherence, and nuance. Nuance is,
perhaps, the most difficult to
achieve trait in a loudspeaker. Very
few are capable even at high price
points. The CCR package has it in
spades through utter transparency.
It is scary good. A tremendous
achievement in value. One
production area it was.
Bass

Flexibility and Choice
The combination is designed for
maximum flexibility. The Cerious
Bass
are 24x tall, making them an
ideal platform for the Too.
Combined they form a full range
loudspeaker able to be placed as a
traditional three way loudspeaker.

Designer, Robert Grost has always
stressed the advantages of satellite/
subwoofer systems and bi-amping.
Ideally the combination will perform
at its highest level with the woofers
against the wall and the satellites
out in free space. Unfortunately, not
everyone has the space or room
configuration to allow such a set up.
The continuing evolution of media
integration must also be
considered. As more people move
from room dominating rear
projection monoliths to flat screen
plasma monitors, customers will
find they now have the added room
to allow the move from single
monitors to the satellite/subwoofer
configuration. In this way the
C
erious
to both present, and future, system
needs.
