USE PROPER EXTENSION CORD. 9. Make sure your extension cord is in good condition. When using an extension cord, be sure to use one heavy enough to carry the current your product will draw. An undersized cord will cause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of power and overheating. Table A shows the correct size to use depending on cord length and nameplate ampere rating. If in doubt, use the next heavier gauge. The smaller the gauge number, the heavier the cord.
WEAR PROPER APPAREL. Do not 10. wear loose clothing, neckties, rings, bracelets, or other jewelry which may get caught in moving parts. Nonslip footwear is recommended. Wear protective hair covering to contain long hair.
ALWAYS USE SAFETY GLASSES 11. and a face or dust mask if grinding operation is dusty. Everyday eyeglasses only have impact resistant lenses, they are NOT safety glasses.
DON’T OVERREACH. Keep proper 12. footing and balance at all times.
MAINTAIN TOOLS WITH CARE. 13. Keep tools sharp and clean for best and safest performance. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories.
DISCONNECT TOOLS before 14. servicing; when changing accessories, such as blades, bits, cutters, and the like.
REDUCE THE RISK OF 15. UNINTENTIONAL STARTING. Make sure switch is in off position before plugging in.

GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS
TO PREVENT
ELECTRIC SHOCK AND DEATH FROM INCORRECT GROUNDING WIRE CONNECTION READ AND FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS:
110-120 V~ Grounded Tools: Tools
with Three Prong Plugs
In the event of a malfunction or 1. breakdown, grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. This tool is equipped with an electric cord having an equipmentgrounding conductor and a grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into a matching outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.
Do not modify the plug provided – 2.
if it will not t the outlet, have the proper outlet installed by a qualied
electrician.
Improper connection of the 3. equipment-grounding conductor can result in a risk of electric shock. The conductor with insulation having an outer surface that is green with or without yellow stripes is the equipment-grounding conductor. If repair or replacement of the electric cord or plug is necessary, do not connect the equipment-grounding conductor to a live terminal.
understood, or if in doubt as to whether the tool is properly grounded.
Use only 3-wire extension cords that 5. have 3-prong grounding plugs and 3-pole receptacles that accept the tool’s plug.

General Operating Instructions
Turning the Grinder on and off
Check that the Power Switch (42) is 1. off and that no objects are in contact with, or near, the wheels.
Fill the Water Reservoir (22) with 2. enough clean water so that up to 3/4” of the side of the wheel is wet when the wheel is rotated (approx. 6 to 8 oz.).
as it may contain particles which can clog plumbing.
Dressing the Wheel
Dressing is the process of removing built-up, dull particles from the surface of the wheel, exposing the original sharp abrasive particles, thus restoring the surface of the wheel. Dressing is an important process in preparing a new wheel before
rst use because the surface may
have stray particles from the factory which will affect the surface. It is also important as a maintenance procedure to clean off build-up on the wheel during use. You will need a grinding wheel dresser (sold separately) for this operation.
With dry hands, plug the unit into a 3. GFCI outlet.
Turn the Power Switch on.4.
When nished using the Grinder, turn 5. the Power Switch off and unplug the unit.
Emptying the Water Reservoir
To empty the Water Reservoir (22) of water:
Slide a shallow bowl which can hold a. at least 8 oz. of water, under the Water Reservoir and twist and pull off the Plug (25) at the bottom of the Reservoir.
When all the water is drained out b. of the Reservoir, slide the bowl out from under the unit and replace the Plug.
Discard the water in a safe location. c. Do not pour the water down a drain
Note: Stand to the side of the wheel and
wear a face shield to protect against
ying sparks.
If the wheel is new, let it run for a full 6. minute with no load.
If you are using a “pistol grip” dresser, 7.
grip the handle rmly with one hand,
and the arm of the dresser with the other. Allow the wheel to reach full speed. Use the tool rest to support your hand and the dresser, and apply to the wheel evenly to all surfaces.
If you are using an “in-line” dresser, 8.
hold the handle rmly, put the dresser
on the tool rest so that its wheels can move freely (the exposed parts of the wheel should be facing up). Let the wheel reach full speed and apply the dresser evenly to all surfaces used for grinding. There is no tool rest on the wet wheel, but the lower speed still allows for easy, free-hand dressing.
Page 10For technical questions, please call 1-800-444-3353.SKU 35098
Page 11
Using the Grinder
Always bring the workpiece into the 1. Wheel gently and without jarring.
When using the Wet Grinding Wheel, 2. periodically check that the wheel is wet on the sides up to about 3/4”.
As needed, rell the Reservoir with
more clean water. Be sure to turn the power off and unplug the unit before
lling with more water.
When using the Dry Grinding Wheel, 3. the workpiece will quickly become heated, therefore frequent quenching is required. Wipe off excess water before addressing the tool to the Grinder.
Note: When grinding wood cutting tools,
or any metal tool, do not let the metal become heated so much that it gets blue-colored, or it will loose it’s temper and be too soft to be useful. As soon as the tool begins to show an orange glow, stop grinding and quench the tool with water.
If the tool does get hot enough to become blue-colored, the overheated portion of the metal must be ground off, and the tool must then be resharpened.
Flat chisels should be ground in 5. the same way as above, with the
exception to attening the tip. The
tip should be ground to a mild point depending upon the desires of the user. The most common example is 60°.
Center punches should also be 6. hollow ground, but you must rotate them evenly in a circle in order to achieve the desired result. The tool must have the tips ground to a point. Common points are 90° for a center point and 60° for a prick punch.
To prevent accidents, turn off the tool 7. and disconnect its power supply after use. Clean, remove water from the Water Reservoir, then store the tool indoors out of children’s reach.
Due to frequent misuse and overuse, 4. screwdrivers commonly need to be ground. The simple procedure is
to grind them at, however hollow
grinding will give a better result. To
hollow grind, simple apply the at of
the screwdriver to the wheel in such a way that a very slight curvature
results. After grinding the at of the blade, the tip must be ground at and
even.
