DTP392 Operating Instructions
Battery:
The DTP392 uses one AAA 1.5 battery. To install the battery, slide the battery door, at the rear of
the case, in the direction of the arrow. Position the battery in the compartment observing the
polarity and battery illustration inside the compartment.
Temperature Probe:
Plug the cable connector into the jack located on the right side of the DTP392. The stainless steel
probe will be inserted in the meat or poultry before being placed inside the oven. First, thoroughly
clean the probe to prevent cross contamination and insert it into the center of the food to be
cooked. Make sure that the end of the probe does not rest in fatty deposits, otherwise the reading
may be low. The oven door is then closed and the DTP392, placed outside the oven, is set to the
desired end temperature. The temperature sensor is located at the bottom _” of the probe making it
ideal for measuring the internal temperature of thin cuts of meat done on an open grill. The
temperature at the end of the probe is displayed on the left (bigger numerals) display screen. The
DTP392 will display the temperature in either C or F degrees, according to the position of the C/F
switch on the rear of the unit.
Set the Desired Internal Temperature:
Determine the desired temperature by referring to the included Temperature Chart or to your
personal preference. Set the desired temperature by pressing the UP, or DOWN, keys on the front
panel. Press, and hold, the keys to advance the numberals rapidly. The set temperature is
displayed on the right (smaller numerals) display screen. NOTE : Fahrenheit temperatures are
electronically calculated from Celsius and for this reason may, on occasion, move in two-degree
steps. Celsius temperatures will always move in one-degree steps. If you wish the DTP392 to
signal when the set temperature is reached, slide the ON/OFF ALERT switch at the left end of the
DTP392 to the ON (up) position. When the probe temperature reaches the set temperature, the
DTP392 will alarm and the indicator lights on the left side will flash.
The alarm will sound continuously for five minutes. Press the STOP key during this five minute
interval, and the alarm will be momentarily silenced. Then, it will continue to signal a reminder by
sounding for five seconds every minute. If you do not wish the alarm to sound, move the ON/OFF
slide switch down to the OFF position
Removing the Probe:
After the alarm has sounded use an oven mitt, or dry towel, and remove the probe from the meat.
The probe will be HOT so take care to prevent burns, and do not place the hot probe on any
surface, which may be damaged by the residual heat.
