Thank you for selecting Castle speakers to
complete your system. By following the
suggestions below they will give you many
years of pleasurable listening.
Unpacking:
lease be extremely careful when un-boxing your new
P
oudspeakers as damage can easily occur, particularly to
l
the drive units, during this process. Also at this time
please ensure that no damage has occurred to the speakers
during transit. If there is a problem contact your Castle
retailer immediately.
Please retain your original packaging, as this will be
required should you need to return the speakers to either
your retailer or Castle. If you discard this packaging you
may be charged for replacement packaging should the
need arise.
Assembly:
All Castle floor standing speakers are supplied with
detachable plinths. For ease of transport and to assist in
ensuring that the systems arrive with you in good condition,
our speakers are transported without these plinths being
attached. To fit the plinth you need to turn the speaker
upside down, taking care not to damage the top of the
an be advantageous to use the top part of the

internal packaging to place the speaker on. The plinth is
connected to the cabinet by up to four large bolts which are
supplied in the plinth packaging along with the spiked feet.
Please remember to fit the washer to the bolt prior to using
it as this will avoid damage to the plinth. Finally do not over
tighten the bolts holding the plinth to the cabinet, just turn
until some significant resistance is felt. If you do over
tighten them damage will occur which will be outside our
warranty. Once the plinth is fitted you can now fit the spiked
feet into the four fixing points. These spikes will help isolate
the speaker from room interactions and also allow you to
level the speaker should the floor not be perfectly flat.
Once again, do not over tighten the spikes in their sockets –
but do lock them in place with the supplied lock nuts to
ensure stability - as you can easily damage the socket and
break it free from the plinth, should you do so it will be
outside our warranty.
Connecting your loudspeakers:
Always ensure that your system is switched off before
ommencing this procedure.

The two photographs show the single wiring and bi-wiring
terminal panels that are used by Castle.
If your new Castle speakers are fitted with bi-wireable
terminals it means our engineers have designed the system
or optimum operation in this configuration and you will notice
f
a distinct sonic improvement if you use them bi-wired. Your
dealer will be able to advise you on suitable bi-wire cables to
suit your system. If bi-wire terminals are fitted but you only
intend to single wire the speakers always use the top input, as
this generally produces a better sound. Also you will notice a
distinct sonic benefit by replacing the factory fitted links in the
terminals with short lengths of your own speaker cable
ensuring when you do this that you do not short out the + and
- terminals. Prior to connecting the speakers to your amplifier
ensure the amplifier is switched off. Always remember to
connect the + output on the amplifier to the + input on the
speaker, normally both are coloured red. If you are unsure
how to proceed at this point please contact the retailer from
whom you purchased the speakers.

Care and maintenance:
(1) Veneered Speakers:
very Castle speaker is hand finished in real wood veneers
E
and where appropriate supplied in matched pairs. As part of
the finishing process once sanding has been completed the
eneer is then sealed in a lacquer in order to preserve the
v
quality of the finish for years. Additionally this means the
speakers will require little in the way of maintenance, just
n occasional dust with a slightly damp cloth to remove
a
dust, always being very careful to avoid touching any of the
drive units or terminal housings.
Please also note that as Castle speakers use real wood
veneers these are subject to colour change due to UV light.
The exact change will depend on the veneer: some will
lighten, others will go darker, but all will change. If possible
for the first few months we suggest that you operate the
speakers without their grills. These are easily removable
and this action will ensure that any colour change that
occurs will be consistent across the whole speaker.
(2) Painted Speakers:
Some Castle models are available in gloss paint finishes
and similarly to the lacquer finish on our veneer cabinets
the only maintenance required is to remove dust with a
damp cloth taking care to avoid the drive units.
General Maintenance:
The only other item you need to check is the tightness of
the bolts holding the drive units in place. Over periods of
time these can become less tight and may need some
adjustment, in doing so please be careful not to over tighten
them as serious damage can occur. Using an appropriate
sized Allen key just turn the bolts on the bass units until you

ant resistance and stop at that point. Our
Room positioning:
All Castle Compact Series speakers are designed to work in
lose proximity to the rear boundary wall, within 10 cm (4
c
inches). The other Castle designs require a little more
space behind, up to 30 cm (12 inches) dependant on model.
ll speakers in our range benefit from avoiding the corners
A
of the room, as the boundary effect will be detrimental to
the sound quality.
Some Castle models feature offset tweeters, for improved
onic performance; on these models the tweeter should
s
always be to the inside nearest the other speaker.
Some experimentation will be required to find the ideal
position for your speakers and this may need, as previously
suggested, to be revisited once they are fully run in.
Warranty EU:
In addition to your statutory rights under EU law, Castle
offers a five-year period of warranty against manufacturing
defects on all our loudspeakers and two-years on amplifier
modules found in our active sub-woofer systems. This
warranty is subject to the following conditions: the original
serial numbers are intact; it only applies to the original
purchaser of the speakers and excludes misuse and faults
caused by ancillary equipment. For the first year the
warranty covers all costs, in the following 4 years a charge
may be made to cover carriage.

Running in:
As with all good quality Hi-fi, Castle speakers will benefit
from an extended period of use. Noticeable sonic
improvements will occur during the course of the first
couple of months of use. Please be aware of this when first
setting the speakers up in your listening room as you will
probably benefit from re-visiting this set up after a couple of
months running in of the speakers.
