MAXIMA – USER’S MANUAL
Thank you for choosing CARTONI. The
CARTONI MAXIMA is ideal for cameras from 0
to 40 kg.
The following set-up instructions are for the
achievement of precise pan, tilt and diagonal
movement. To get optimum results from your
MAXIMA system, the equipment set up is very
important.
Before using the patented fluid drag system, you
will need to accurately counterbalance your
camera in order to allow the tilt drag unit to
operate in total freedom without gravity
interference.
Please remember that the tilt and pan locks (9)
and (5) must be set in lock position before any
attempt is made to fit or remove equipment
mounted on the head. It is advisable to lock pan
and tilt sections when the camera is left
unattended.
1 – Place the MAXIMA head on the flat Mitchell
base of a tripod/dolly, rotate it until you match
the steel notch . Tighten the head firmly screwing
in the knob underneath the flat base. In case you
have applied the 150mm bowl base, place the
MAXIMA on the bowl, level it into horizontal
position checking the spirit bubble (15). Tighten
the head firmly on the bowl base.
Press button (12) for bubble light and to activate
the digital displays. Light will turn off automatically
after approximately 30 seconds.
Attach the orientable pan bar (1) to the right
rosette (3) and firmly secure it with knob (2). Also
adjust the desired length of the pan bar.
2 – Lock horizontal position with lever (11) red
position, insert pan lock (5) and turn both tilt drag
selector (13) and counterbalance selector (8) to
position “0”.
3 – To release the camera plate (10) push the
red safety button (4) and open the slide lock lever
(6) completely, push down the red lever (7) for
slide release and remove the camera plate.

4 – Attach the camera plate to the bottom of the
camera assembly and firmly secure it with both
screws. Try to place the camera plate centered
under the camera system, keeping in mind the
position of the center of gravity.
5 – Place the camera on the top of the MAXIMA,
leaning sidewards against the left side of the
head (slide lock side), then push the assembly
into horizontal position until you feel the click of
the slide release red lever (7). At this point the
camera plate is clamped but still moving fore and
aft.
6 – Holding the pan bar (1) firmly, disengage
lever (11) to green position and find the correct
center of gravity sliding the camera assembly fore
and aft . Lock the slide lock lever (6).

7 – Set the counterbalance system by turning the
balance knob (8) to appropriate tension. The
camera has to stay still at any tilt angle. If needed,
finetune balance, adjusting the sliding plate.
8 – Push button (12) to activate displays, unlock
pan lock (5) and select the desired fluid drag
intensity on both pan and tilt by turning pan
selector (13) and tilt selector (14).
9 – When the display light becomes unstable it is
time to change the 9v battery. To access it
remove compartment lid (16) unscrewing the 2
crossed head screws.
