Traces of Coffee Grounds in New Machine?
This is normal! Grinder was tested during assembly with beans.
Despite cleaning, traces of ground coffee may be found.

A) First Time Ever Preparation
1. Fill water in tank and beans in bean container.
2. DO NOT install the Clearyl Filter Cartridge now!
3. Push the main power switch in the back of the machine.
4. Push the ON/OFF button in the display. When the display
reads
FILL SYSTEM / PRESS STEAM place a cup under
the frother and push the PERMANENT STEAM button.
SYSTEM FILLING then HEATING UP.
5. PRESS RINSE. Place a cup under the coffee spouts and
press the RINSE button. MACHINE RINSING. SELECT
PRODUCT

6. Place a large cup underneath the coffee spouts and press
the 1-CUP coffee button. 1 COFFEE: The machine
starts grinding and brewing. Repeat once. Discard the first
two cups of coffee.

B) Daily Preparation

a cup under the coffee spouts and press the RINSE button.

C) Grinding and Brewing Coffee
Four pre-set coffee buttons: 1 ESPRESSO, 2 ESPRESSI,
1 COFFEE, 2 COFFEES. These buttons are pre-set for
strength (five settings), cup size (1 to 8 oz. per cup) and
temperature (HIGH, NORMAL) During brewing you can override the cup size by turning the ROTARY DIAL. Cup size for
2-cup buttons is shown PER CUP! In programming you can
change all three functions.
Important: You can always stop the flow of coffee by pushing
any of the coffee buttons.
A LA CARTE button. Push the button and change the
strength by turning the ROTARY DIAL (
NORMAL, STRONG, XSTRONG). Now push the ROTARY
DIAL. During grinding turn the Dial to set the cup size.
D) Changing the Grinder Fineness
Important: You can only adjust the fineness during the
actual grinding process.
1. Open the bean container lid and turn the dial while grinding:
larger dots: coarser; smaller dots: finer.
2. For darker, oily beans, grind somewhat coarser. For lighter
beans, grind somewhat finer.
E) Using Hot Water (factory setting is 5 oz.)
Place a cup underneath the Hot Water Spout and turn the
SELECTOR SWITCH to the right.

F) Frothing and Steaming with the DUAL FROTHER PLUS
(Using the frothXpress PLUS system see section "N").
Important: All frother parts must be tightly connected and clean.
1. Cappuccino: One shot espresso plus ~4 oz. of steamed
and frothed milk. Metal frother sleeve DOWN
2. Latte: One shot espresso plus ~4 to 5 oz. of steamed milk.
Metal frother sleeve UP.
3. If the red lights in the steam buttons are ON, immerse
the frother into a pitcher with milk and push the
PERMANENT STEAM button.
Steam pushes into the milk ( if the steam buttons are not
illuminated, see chapters 16.6 Operating Instructions).
a) Push the STEAM button to stop.
To continue steaming push the STEAM button again.
b) After steaming you can immediately brew coffee.
Important: Knocking Noise during Frothing: The machine
pumps water droplets for steam. This is normal.
Please note: Skim and 1% milk will produce more froth
than 2% and regular milk.
To increase milk temperature, frother sleeve should be UP
XMILD, MILD,

DRAW OFF STEAM.

G) Cleaning the Frother
Should be done right after use, takes less than 15 sec.!
Place a large cup underneath the frother. Push the PERMANENT
STEAM button. After 5 sec. push the button again to stop.
H) Programming
Factory Settings:
• 1-cup Espresso: 2 oz., strong
• 2-cup Espresso: 2 oz./cup, strong
• 1-cup Coffee: 5 oz., strong
• 2-cup Coffee: 5 oz./cup, strong
• All cup buttons are set to temperature HIGH.
• Hot Water: 5 oz.
• Steam Portion: 14 seconds
