MAKE MORE OF THE MEGAPIXELS

A common perception in digital photography is that more Megapixels equals more

quality. There is, however, more to it than that. Although Megapixels play their part, they

represent only one third of the picture-taking equation. The picture is captured through

the lens, digitised by the sensor, and then image-processed to make the final digital file.

So lens, sensor and processor are all equally critical to the accurate rendering of images.

DIGIC PROCESSOR

Canon’s patented DIGIC (DIGital Imaging Core) processors link all primary camera functions

CAPTURE THE MEMORY

Canon Digital Still Cameras take photos that match the scene as you remember it. Simply being accurate

is not enough. Pictures need to capture everything from ambience to stark reality. Rendering an image is

a combination of exposure, colour balance and subject recognition.

Canon Digital Still Cameras render images that match the feelings you experienced when you pressed the

shutter. Exposure is accurate whatever the lighting conditions, even with off-center subjects and low-light.

White balance is detailed and individual. Colours appear as you remember them – blue skies stay blue,

green leaves are green and skin tones remain beautifully natural.

INTELLIGENT SCENE ANALYSIS BASED ON PHOTOSPACE

Even before you take a picture with a Canon Digital Still Camera, the captured image and shooting information are analysed and

cross-referenced against PhotoSpace – a vast library of photographic information about the way people take pictures, built into the

camera itself. The camera analyses a scene and, using PhotoSpace data, optimally controls the auto-focus, auto-exposure and auto white balance.

Every Canon Digital Still Camera features a high-performance lens.

Using advanced glass moulding materials and techniques, the lenses

are ultra-compact and deliver pin-sharp clarity. Images faithfully record

the smallest details even in the most intricate pictures.

Why Canon lenses make a difference.

STEADY SHOOTING

Camera shake whilst hand holding a camera can cause blurred

photos. Canon’s Optical Image Stabilizer found on the PowerShot S2 IS,

uses special vibration sensors which detect the slightest camera

movements before moving the lens up, down, left or right to

significantly reduce shake and ensure crisp, clear, shake-free images.

FAST AND QUIET ZOOMING

An Ultrasonic Motor on the PowerShot Pro1 and

PowerShot S2 IS ensures super-fast, near-silent zooming for stills or

movie clips*. This highly efficient motor powers the zoom lens in

and out smoothly, quietly and swiftly, so photographers can compose

pictures at the spur of a moment. Its hushed zoom action is also

great for movies, since it won’t be heard on the sound track.

THE LENS EXPERTS

Canon has always aimed to develop lenses that can perfectly capture

life’s most precious moments. Since the 1940s, we have made countless

technical breakthroughs in the field, including the world’s first fluorite

lens elements and zooms with image stabilization. Our obsession for

innovation has seen us register more zoom lens design patents in Japan

than any other company.

off-the-self components, we originate and produce our lenses using

ULTRA-THIN PERFORMANCE LENSES

Today’s tiny digital cameras demand lenses that are not only

tiny but of superb quality. Canon’s UA lens is the world’s first ultra-high

refractive index glass moulded aspherical lens. Its extra high refractive

index makes it exceptionally slim and compact, whilst its glass moulded

aspherical shape delivers superlative image quality, performance and

zoom ratio.

APERTURE PRIORITY

You select the aperture for control of

depth-of-field whilst the camera sets the

shutter speed.

SHUTTER SPEED PRIORITY

You set the shutter speed while the camera

selects the aperture according to available light.

SPECIAL SCENE

This mode has automatically stored presets

for shooting various scenes. You can select

them to ensure the most appropriate settings,

without having to use the manual controls.

EXIF PRINT

Exif Print is a standard for enhancing the communication

between digital cameras and printers. By connecting to an Exif Print compliant

printer, image data is extracted from the camera in the optimum way, resulting

in prints that are more faithful to the image that was captured.

PHOTOSTITCH

Canon’s Stitch Assist mode allows you to create panoramic

shots from multiple images. Up to 26 separate images can

be seamlessly joined together with the supplied PhotoStitch

software, to create a single stunning wide-format picture.

ZOOMBROWSER EX & IMAGEBROWSER

ZoomBrowser EX (for Windows) and ImageBrowser (for Macintosh)

allow you to transfer, browse, archive and retouch your pictures with

ease. You can also access the shooting information for any image,

make slideshows and resize images for sending via e-mail.

PRINT PHOTOS DIRECTLY FROM YOUR CAMERA

You don’t need to use a computer to get digital photo prints. All you need to do

is plug your Canon Digital Still Camera into any PictBridge compliant or existing

Canon compact photo printer with the supplied cable and select your favourite

shot. Within seconds you will be holding a full lab-quality colour photo.

The Print/Share button found on most current Canon Digital Still Cameras

makes things even easier.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AUTO FOCUS

AiAF lets you focus even when your subject is not in the centre of the

frame. It also automatically locates the most important part of the

frame and gives the optimum exposure for that area.

FLEXIZONE AF/AE CONTROL

FlexiZone AF/AE control lets you choose where to focus almost anywhere

in the frame by moving the auto-focus window in the viewfinder.

Perfect focus is then assured.

Sharing made easy

Easy printing

Canon’s ‘My Colors’ feature allows you to alter the colours of your image or movie,

on the camera. Simply select one of the 9 sub-modes before taking your shot:

choose from Vivid Red, Vivid Blue, Vivid Green, Positive Film, Lighter Skin Tone,

Darker Skin Tone, Color Accent, Color Swap or Custom Color. You can then decide whether you wish

to keep both the original image and edited image or just the edited image (if you use My Colors

while recording a movie only the edited movie will be saved). They’re your shots – now they’re

your colours too!

PHOTORECORD

PhotoRecord lets you create and print digital photo albums,

with text, backgrounds, picture frames and more, all with easy

step-by-step selections.

Until recently, the best way to get photo prints was by dropping off the film at a photolab and then returning some time later to pick up the prints. With Canon’s SELPHY printers, all that has changed forever.
