INSTALLATION, OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS FOR
SERIES OKA INFRARED RADIANT HEATERS
FIRE/EXPLOSION HAZARD WARNING - During operation, take precautions to ensure that combustible materials are always kept at a safe distance from the radiant energy. This heater is not intended for use in hazardous areas where flammable vapours, gases or liquids or other combustibles are present. Remember that objects placed under an infrared heater can take a while to reach stabilized temperatures. If you are unsure of the suitability of the heater for the intended application, check with the factory for recommendations. Failure to comply can result in personal injury and/or property damage.
DESCRIPTION
1.0 The OKA radiant heater is suitable for process heating in
non-hazardous areas protected from rain, snow or splashing, where heating element temperatures in excess of 1382°F(750°C) will not present the risk of fire or explosion. This heater is not intended for use in comfort heating applications.
2.0 The OKA heater is available with metal sheathed, quartz lamp or quartz tube heating elements. Use heaters with metal sheathed elements where there is heavy vibration or mechanical shock. Quartz tube or
quartz lamp elements are very fragile and require extreme care in handling. Heaters utilizing quartz tubes or quartz lamps are unsuitable for applications in locations where the risk of heavy vibration or mechanical shock exists.
3.0 To avoid damage in transit, heaters with quartz lamp or quartz tube elements are shipped with the elements not installed in the fixture.
4.0 A minimum of handling of the quartz sheath is recommended since any type of contamination on the sheath may reduce service life.
INSTALLATION
The system designer is responsible for the safety of this equipment and adequate back-up controls and safety devices must be installed. Failure to comply could result in personal injury and/or property damage.
Heaters must be wired by qualified personnel in compliance with local codes.
5.0 Verify that the nameplate voltage and wattage are suitable for use on the available electrical power supply. Do not connect the heater to an electrical supply voltage other than shown on the product label.
For metal sheathed heaters, insulation contamination or moisture accumulation can cause fault to the element sheath generating arcing and releasing molten metal. Install proper ground fault protection to prevent personal injury and/or property damage.
6.0 When mounting, maintain a minimum clearance to combustibles of 15”(381 mm) at sides, 10”(254 mm) at top and 12”(305 mm) at ends.
Heaters with quartz tube or quartz lamp type heating elements are suitable for horizontal mounting only. Heaters with metal sheathed heating elements can be mounted in any desired position.
7.0 For short circuit protection, heaters must be installed with proper fast acting fuses or breakers as close as possible to the amperage draw of the unit(s), in compliance with the local electrical codes.

INSTALLATION AND OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
FORCED AIR HEATERS - TYPE GE
3
3
Models without a built-in contactor should have the limit switch wired in the control circuit of an external contactor, and for three phase supply, this control circuit should be connected to lines 2 and 3 which feed the centre heating element, as shown in the wiring diagrams.
The limit switch is rated 600 volts, 10 Amps resistive.
The fan motor has built-in thermal overload protection.
LOUVRED GRILLE
The grille bars all move together and can be set at any angle between 10° and 35° down when the two bottom screws are loosened. The bars are locked in position when these screws are tightened.
WARRANTY
CCI Thermal Technologies Inc. warrants to the original purchaser of Forced Air Heaters that they are free from defects in material and workmanship for one year of normal service when installed and operated in accordance with the instructions provided by the Company and subject to the following conditions:
1. Since the paint nish may be damaged in use, no warranty applies to such paint nish except for manufacturing defects which become apparent within 30 days from date of installation.
2. Labour costs for removal and re-installation of parts which may be repaired or replaced under this warranty are the sole responsibility of the purchaser.
3. The warranty will not apply to parts which have been subject to accident, misuse, abuse or operation on an incorrect power supply.
4. Parts which become defective within the terms of the warranty will be repaired or replaced at the option of CCI Thermal Technologies Inc. without charge.
INSTALLATION AND OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
FORCED AIR HEATERS - TYPE GE
CAUTION
To ensure unrestricted air ow through the heater and avoid high temperatures on any adjacent surfaces, the sides, rear and top of the heater case should be spaced away from walls and ceiling not less than the minimum distances marked on the nameplate.
MOUNTING
The heater may be suspended from a truss of suitable support by a bolt through the catalog number CB swivel bracket (A), Fig. 1, or may be bolted to a wall bracket (B), catalog number WB Fig. 2, and swivelled to face any direction. The heater may be suspended by two tie bolts with jam nuts (C), which should be tightened down against the top of the case, Fig. 3.
The tie bolts may be fastened to the catalog number CB bracket (A), allowing the heater to swivel, Fig. 4.
POWER SUPPLY CONNECTIONS
The power supply may be single or three phase as shown on the nameplate. Wiring diagrams are on the inside of the terminal compartment cover which is the removable right hand side panel. Connection box volume: 2-10kW: 9893cm 15-40kW: 32333cm
GROUNDING
A ground screw with a cup washer is located beside the terminal block.
OVER-HEAT PROTECTION
In the event of fan failure, an automatic reset limit switch opens a contactor control circuit, breaking the power supply to the heater.
