Common Cast Iron Drain Types
These are common cast iron drains with similar configurations. The only substantial difference is that the EZ-TEST
has a built in plug that allows for immediate water test. The INSTA-SET and OATEY require a separate plug for water
testing.

INSTALLED BODY PREPARATION
• Remove the BOLTS (1) holding the

ADAPTER INSTALLATION
• Apply hot tar over top of cast iron
BODY (3) & surrounding sloped floor
• Place HOT MOP ADAPTER (4) onto
hot tar
• Use saved BOLTS (1) from step I and
attach HOT MOP ADAPTER (4) to
BODY (3)
• While tightening BOLTS (1) check level
on ADAPTER (4) with level
• Perform all necessary hot mop or
waterproofing practices per
waterproofing methods, manufacturer
requirements and/or local/city plumbing
codes
• Perform water test NOTE: Weep holes
shall be open and allow water to pass freely
THROAT INSTALLATION
• Place a few small pieces GRAVEL (5)
over the WEEP HOLES (6) as shown

• Install StyleDrain
Upgrade THROAT
(7) into the Hot Mop ADAPTER (4)
• Perform all necessary floor covering
(e.g. tile, stone, etc…) installation
methods and adjust height of THROAT
(7) as necessary for finished floor
surface
SPECIAL NOTE:
For EZ-TEST and other possible drain
configurations, it may be necessary to
cut off some of the lower threaded
section of the StyleDrain
®
Upgrade
THROAT (7), as shown, to prevent the
throat threads from “bottoming out”
onto the drain body’s inner top surface.
IMPORTANT: Prior to cutting, “stack up”
height (thickness) of all flooring materials must be
determined to allow for flush height of THROAT
to top surface with flooring.
