DAMAGE REQUIRING SERVICE - THE APPLIANCE SHOULD BE SERVICED BY QUALIFIED SERVICE PERSONNEL WHEN: (A) THE POWER SUPPLY CORD OR THE PLUG HAS BEEN DAMAGED (B) OBJECTS HAVE FALLEN OR LIQUID HAS BEEN SPILLED INTO THE APPLIANCE (C) THE APPLIANCE HAS BEEN EXPOSED TO RAIN (D) THE APPLIANCE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE OPERATING NORMALLY OR EXHIBITS A MARKED CHANGE IN PERFORMANCE (E) THE APPLIANCE HAS BEEN DROPPED OR THE ENCLOSURE DAMAGED.
SERVICING - THE USER SHOULD NOT ATTEMPT TO SERVICE THE APPLIANCE BEYOND THAT DESCRIBED IN THE OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS. ALL OTHER SERVICING REFER TO A QUALIFIED SERVICE PERSONNEL.

Inspecting & Unpacking
Although the shipping carton and packaging materials are designed to prevent damage during shipment, you should inspect the carton for any signs of mishandling or damage immediately upon receiving your new unit. Carefully lift the unit from the carton and inspect it for any signs of damage. Save all packaging materials for possible later use.
Note: Any shipping damage or loss claims must be submitted to the freight agent.
Your carton and packaging should contain the following:
• CD/Cassette/AM/FM Radio
• Owner’s Manual
• Califone Warranty Registration Mail-In Card
• Project Intercept Tag
Initial Set-Up
AC Line Operation
1. The power cord is located at the rear of the unit. Release the cord retainer tab and uncoil the cord.
2. Plug the cord into a standard 120 volt 50-60 Hz AC outlet. Be sure the plug blades are fully inserted. THE UNIT IS ON STANDBY WHEN PLUGGED IN.
Battery Operation
1. The battery compartment is located at the rear of the unit. Push the lever at the center of the door toward the rear of the unit, then lift the door free.
2. Eight “D” or UM-1 size batteries are required. When installing refer to the orientation diagram shown inside the battery compartment. Place the batteries on top of the nylon ribbon. This helps to “pop” old batteries out when you need to replace them.
3. Replace the battery cover.
IMPORTANT: Remove all batteries from your cassette unit if it will not be used for an extended period of time. DO NOT LEAVE DISCHARGED BATTERIES IN THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT. DAMAGE TO THE UNIT DUE TO BATTERY CORROSION IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.
NOTE: Califone cassette recorders are designed for use only with Type 1 Normal Bias recording tape.

GETTING STARTED
When the ‘Power’ button (1) is depressed the LED (2) to the left of the LCD display (3) will be red for standby mode. Pushing the LED will cause the LED to be green indicating the unit is fully powered up.
• Depressing the ‘Function’ (4) button will cause the LCD display to show ‘Tape’. ‘AM/FM’ or ‘CD’.
DIGITAL VOLUME CONTROL
• Press ‘VOL ’ (7) to reduce the volume, the level will be
shown in the LCD panel. Minimum volume will show ‘00’ on the LCD display.
Press ‘VOL ’ (8) to increase the volume. Maximum volume is ‘30’ as shown on the LCD display.
NOTE: Audio level may be inaudible below “16.”
BBS CONTROL
• Press the ”BBS” (10) to select ”BBS ON” or ”BBS OFF”
EQ CONTROL
• Press ”EQ” (9) to select the equalizer as sequence.

RADIO OPERATION
TUNING IN RADIO STATIONS
1. Press “Function”(4) to select the equalizer as sequence.
2. Press “AM/FM” (5) to select the desired waveband: FM or AM.

3. Press and hold CD/TUNER (14) or CD/TUNER (15) button until a radio station with sufficient signal
strength is found. Repeat this procedure until the desired station is reached.
4. To tune into a weak station briefly press CD/TUNER (14) or CD/TUNER (15) repeatedly until the dis-
play shows the desired frequency or when the best reception has been obtained.
5. Extend the telescope antenna and adjust for best reception. Note: For FM Tuning, ((ST) will show on the LCD display when stereo sound is obtained.
STORING PRESET STATIONS
You can store up to 10 radio station for FM and 10 for AM in the memory. When a preset radio station is selected. The preset number appears on the display. Note: If power is turned OFF (or standby switch not ”green”) the memory will be lost.
PROGRAMMING STATIONS
1. Press FUNCTION to TUNER mode.
2. Press AM/FM (5) to select the desired wave band: FM or AM.
3. Press CD/TUNER (14) or CD/TUNER (15) to tune to the desired frequency.

4. Press ”PROGRAM” (17) on the unit or remote control, the “PROGRAM” and“01” will start flashing. The current preset number will be displayed for selection.

5. If you wish to store the radio station to another preset number, press the “ALBUM PRESET”(11) or the “ALBUM PRESET” (12) to select the desired preset number.
6. Press PROGRAM (17) on the unit again to restore the radio station. Repeat steps 3 to 6 to store other preset radio stations.
Note: During program, if no button is pressed within 5 seconds, the system will exit program mode automat­cally. If power is removed the station memory is lost.
SELECTING STATION
Press “ALBUM PRESET” (11) or “ALBUM PRESET” (12) to select the desired preset number. The
preset number, radio frequency, and PROGRAM will appear on the display.

Press ”MONO/STEREO“ (41) to select mono or stereo mode. When stereo mode is selected, ((ST)) will appear on the display (if current station is FM stereo.)
Note: Only FM is able to select ”STEREO“ or ”MONO“

LOADING A CD or MP3 Disc
1. Press the FUNCTION (21) to select CD mode. replaced by

4. Close the CD door. The system will automatically read the content of the CD or MP3 disc; if a CD disc is loaded, the LCD display will total the number of tracks and the total playing time.
