READ AND FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS
1. DANGER - RISK OF ACCIDENTAL DROWNING.
Extreme caution must be exercised to prevent unauthorized access by children. To avoid accidents, ensure that children cannot use this spa unless they are under adult supervision at all times.
2. A bonding lug has been provided on the outside of the Control Module electrical control box. This lug permits the connection of No
. 6 AWG solid copper bonding conductor between the Control Module and all other electrical equipment and exposed metal in the vicinity, as may be needed to comply with local regulations.
3.
DANGER - RISK OF INJURY. The suction fittings in
this spa are sized to match the specific water flow created by the pump. Should the need arise to replace the drainsuction fittings or the pump, be sure that the flow rates are compatible. Never replace a suction fitting with one rated less than the flow rate marked on the original suction fitting. Never remove, or alter in any way, the covers on the drainsuction fittings in the spa. Never operate the spa if the covers on the drain-suction fitting are broken or missing.
4.
DANGER - RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK. Install
the spa at least 5 feet (1.5m) from all metal surfaces. (A spa may be installed within 5 feet of metal surfaces if each metal surface is permanently connected by a minimum No
. 6 AWG solid copper conductor attached to the wire connector on the terminal box that is provided for this purpose.
5. DANGER - RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK. Do not permit any electrical appliances such as a light, telephone, radio or television within 5 feet (1.5m) of the spa.
6. WARNING - To reduce the risk of injury:
A. T
he water in a spa should never exceed 1040F.
Water temperatures between 1000F and 1040F are considered safe for a health y adult. Lower water temperatures are recommended for extended use (exceeding 10-15 minutes) and for young children.
B. Since excessive water temperatures have a high potential for causing fetal damage during the early months of pregnancy, pregnant or possibly pregnant women should limit spa temperatures to 1000F.
C. Before entering the spa, the user should measure the water temperature with an accurate thermometer since the tolerance of water temperature regulating devices may var y as much as ± 5 degrees.
D. The use of alcohol, drugs, or medication before or during spa use may lead to unconsciousness with the possibility of drowning.
E. Persons suffering from obesity or with a medical history of hear t disease, low or high blood pressure, cir-
culatory system problems or diabetes should consult a physician before using a spa.
F. Persons using medication should consult a physician before using a spa since some medications may induce drowsiness while other medications may affect heart rate, blood pressure and circulation.
G.
Because occasional users of the spa may not be aware of all the potential risks associated with spa usage, they should be made aware of these important safety instructions.
7.
The electrical supply for permanently connected spas must include a suitably rated switch or circuit breaker to open all ungrounded supply conductors to comply with the National Electrical Codes. The disconnection means must be within sight and readily accessible to the spa occupants but installed at least 5 feet (1.5m) from the spa water.
8.
WARNING - Permanently connected units must be
hardwired only to a supply circuit that is protected by a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI). Such a GFCI is required by most building codes, should be provided by the installer and must be tested before each use. Consult GFCI manufacturers instructions for correct testing and operation.
9. For Cord-and-Plug Connected Spas: DANGER - Risk of injury.
• Replace damaged cord immediately.
• Do not bury cord.
• Connect to a grounded, grounding type receptacle only.
10. For Cord-and-Plug Connected spas: WARNING This spa is provided with a ground fault circuit interruptor (GFCI) at the end of the cord. This GFCI must be tested before each use as follows.
• Press the “test”button. The spa should not operate.
• Press the “reset” button. The spa should operate nor mally.
11.
DANGER - Prolonged immersion in hot water may induce hyperthermia.
Symptoms: Symptoms of hyperthermia include an
increase in the internal temperature of the body, dizziness, lethargy, drowsiness and fainting.
Effects: The effects of hyperthermia include:
• Failure to perceive heat.
• Failure to recognize the need to exit the spa.
• Unawareness of empending hazard.
• Fetal damage in pregnant women.
• Physical inability to exit the spa.
• Unconsciousness resulting in the danger of drowning. T reatment: Place the victim on his back, head slightly elevat-
ed. Apply wet cloths or ice packs to the head, wrap the body in a sheet, pouring on a small amount of water. Follow with a cool shower or bath. Get medical attention as soon as possible.

SITE SELECTION
Because of the combined weight of the spa, water and users, it is extremely important that the base upon which the spa rests is capable of uniformly supporting this weight, without shifting settling, for the entire time the spa is in place. If the spa is placed on a base which does not meet this requirement, damage to the cabinet and/or the spa shell may result. Damage caused by improper support is not covered under warranty. It is the spa owner’s responsibility to ensure the integrity of the spa’s support over time.
We recommend a poured, reinforced concrete slab for the spa’s base. Wood decking, pre-cast concrete slabs, concrete blocks or other materials may also be suitable if they meet the requirements outlined above. Wood decking must be constructed to support at least eighty pounds per square foot. Consult with a qualified contractor or engineer if you are in doubt.
Your spa must be installed so as to provide drainage away from the spa. Placing the spa in a depression without provisions for proper drainage could allow rain, overflow and other casual water to flood the equipment and/or create a wet condition in which the spa would sit.
When considering an installation site, allow a minimum of thirty inches for access to the spa’s equipment compartment for future service if necessary. If accessory items will be installed on or around the spa (Spa CoverGlide, gazebo, steps or planters), allow for additional space around the spa’s perimeter.
Please note that some cities and counties may require a permit for installation of electrical circuits or the construction of exterior structures (decks and gazebos). In addition, some counties may require permits for the installation of a portable spa. Check your local codes for compliance.
To ensure you can use your spa soon after delivery, it is important that you select the voltage prior to setting your spa in place and have a licensed electrician install the wiring, if necessary.
SELECTING THE VOL T A GE FOR YOUR SP A
Your spa is designed to operate at either 120 or 220 volts, 60 Hz unless it is the Olympia model which requires 220 volt power supply. When the spa is connected to 120 volts, the heater will provide approximately 1000 watts of heat only when the pump is operating in LOW speed and the thermostat is calling for heat. When the spa is connected to 220 volts, the heater will provide approximately 4000 watts of heat when the pump is operating in LOW or HIGH speed and the thermostat is calling for heat.
All electrical connections must be made in accordance with the wiring information contained in this manual, in the electrical control box or on the back of the field wiring access panel of the equipment module.
120 VOLT INSTALLA TION
Spas provided with a factory- installed power supply cord are to be plugged into a grounded, grounding type, 120 volt, 15 ampere receptacle (Sierra, Teton models) or 20 ampere receptacle (Cascade model). No other electrical appliance or fixture can be used on this circuit.
IMPORTANT: Under NO circumstances should an extension cord be used. Use of an extension cord will seriously degrade the performance of the equipment module and can create an electrical hazard.
220 VOLT INSTALLA TION
When using 220 volt power supply, installation of a 40 amp dedicated circuit is required. Your spa must be hardwired direct to a GFCI-protected power source by a licensed electrician. A wiring diagram is provided inside the equipment module showing where the connections are to be made.
