Overview

Read this manual thoroughly to become familiar with how the navigation system operates.

The navigation system includes navigation and audio functions.

While entering the vehicle or when turning the vehicle off, some DVD Map Disc noise is normal.

Keeping your eyes on the road and your mind on the drive is important for safe driving. The navigation system has built-in features intended to help keep your eyes on the road and mind on the drive. Some features may be disabled while driving. Note that these functions will be grayed-out. A grayed-out function indicates it is not available when the vehicle is moving.

All functions are available when the vehicle is parked. Do the following before driving:

Become familiar with the navigation system operation, control buttons on the faceplate, and touch-sensitive screen buttons of the navigation system.

Set up the audio by presetting favorite stations, setting the tone, and adjusting the speakers.

Set up the navigation features before beginning driving, such as entering an address or a preset destination.

Set up your phone numbers in advance so they can be called easily with the press of a single button or a single voice command (for navigation systems equipped with phone capability).

Taking your eyes off the road too long or too often while using the navigation system could cause a crash resulting in injury or death to you or others. Focus your attention on driving.

WARNING

Avoid looking too long or too often at the moving map on the navigation screen. This could cause a crash and you or others can be injured or killed. Use the turn-by-turn voice guidance directions whenever possible.

Use the navigation system to:

Plan a route.

Select a destination using various methods and choices.

Follow turn-by-turn route and map guidance with voice prompts, only if permitted by traffic laws, controls, and conditions.

You should always be alert and obey traffic and roadway laws and instructions, regardless of the guidance from the navigation system. Because the navigation system uses street map information that does not include all traffic restrictions or the latest road changes, it may suggest using a road that is now closed for construction or a turn that is prohibited by signs at the intersection. Because the system uses limited information, you must always evaluate whether following the system's directions is safe and legal for the current conditions.

When the navigation system is turned on, a screen may appear with the information below, and you must read and acknowledge the information it contains.

After you acknowledge the start up information you will be able to access the NAV (navigation) and DEST (destination) functions. Once accessed, you can enter or delete information in the navigation system or access other functions. See instructions later in this section.

Every fifty times the vehicle is started and the navigation system is turned on, the Caution screen appears. After reading the caution, select OK to load the map DVD information.

If OK is not selected, all control buttons except for NAV (Navigation) and DEST (Destination) can be accessed. You can also press the NAV control button to have this Caution screen appear.

When getting started, set the navigation system to your preference or delete information you may have entered using various options.

Deleting Personal Information

This navigation system can record and store personal information such as names and addresses. At times, such as when you are disposing of your vehicle, you may want to delete this information. See “Edit Address Book — Edit/View” under Destination on page 37 for deleting information from the address book.

Storing Radio Station Presets

To set preset radio stations, do the following:

1. Press

O to turn the system on.

2. Press the AUDIO control button and select the desired band (AM, FM1, FM2, XM1, or XM2 (if equipped)).

3. Use the

f (tune) knob or the

SEEK arrows to tune to the desired station.

4. Press and hold one of the five preset screen buttons, at the bottom of the screen, until you hear a beep or see the station displayed on the selected preset button.

5. Repeat the steps for each preset.

See “Storing Preset Stations” under Destination on page 37 for more information.

Setting the Clock

To set the time:

1. Press the clock screen button located in the upper right corner of the screen.

2. Press the Set screen button.

3. Press the Hours and Minutes ‐ and + signs to decrease and to increase the time. See “Setting the Clock” under Configure Menu on page 49 for more information.

Setting the Search Area, Entering an Address and Point of Interest, and Storing Preset Destinations

Before entering an Address, Point of Interest, Home, or Preset Destination, select the appropriate region that contains the final destination. Your vehicle must be in P (Park) to perform this operation.

Setting the Search Area

To set the search area:

1. If the radio is already on with a map disc inserted, skip to Step 5.

2. Press

O to turn the system on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc. See “Installing the Map DVD” under Maps on page 29 for more information.

4. A caution may appear. Press the OK screen button to proceed.

5. Press the DEST control button.

6. Press the Change Search Area screen button.

7. Select the appropriate region numbered screen button that contains your final destination.

The system will return to the Destination Entry menu. See Destination on page 37 for more information.

Entering an Address

If you are having trouble finding a city or a street name, do the following:

Input the street name first instead of the city name, or vice versa.

Input more characters or reduce the amount of characters to reduce or expand the available options.

To set a destination by entering a city name, do the following:

1. If the radio is already on with a map disc inserted, skip to Step 5.

2. Press

O to turn the system on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc. See “Installing the Map DVD” under Maps on page 29 for more information.

4. A caution may appear. Press the OK screen button to proceed.

5. Press the DEST control button.

6. Press the

7. The City name category will automatically be selected for entry. Start entering the city name.

If five or less names are available for the entered characters, a list will display. If more than five are available, there will be a screen button with a number in it, it represents the

number of available cities. Press this button to view the list and select a city.

8. Once a city is selected the street name category will automatically be selected for entry. Start entering the street name.

Do not enter directional information or street type, and use the space symbol screen

button (

U ) between street or

city names. Use the backspace (

q ) screen button if an

incorrect character has been entered.

If five or less names are available, a list will display. If more than five are available, there will be a screen button with a number in it, it represents the number of available streets. Select this button to view the list.

9. Select the street name with the correct prefix from the list (Dr., Ln., St., etc.).

10. Once a street has been selected, the numeric keyboard will display, allowing you to enter the house number. The system will display the house number range that is available for the street.

11. Press the Go screen button. A map screen, with the destination marked, will appear.

12. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest, or Other). The system will calculate and highlight the route.

13. Press the Start screen button. You are now ready to start your route.

Entering a Point of Interest (POI)

To set a destination by entering a Point of Interest (POI), do the following:

1. If the radio is already on with a map disc inserted, skip to Step 5.

2. Press

O to turn the system on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc. See “Installing the Map DVD” under Maps on page 29 for more information.

4. A caution may appear. Press the OK screen button to proceed.

5. Press the DEST control button.

6. Press the

7. Enter the specific title of the POI in the POI name space (e.g. Washington Monument).

If five or less names are available, a list will display. If more than five are available, there will be a screen button with

a number in it, it represents the number of available POIs. Press this button to view the list.

8. Press the Go screen button. A map screen, with the destination marked, will appear.

9. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest, or Other). The system will calculate and highlight the route.

10. Press the Start screen button.

You are now ready to start your route.

See “Point of Interest (POI)” under Destination on page 37 for more information.

Storing Preset Destinations

1. If the radio is already on with a map disc inserted, skip to Step 5.

2. Press

O to turn the system on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc. See “Installing the Map DVD” under Maps on page 29 for more information.

4. A caution may appear. Press the OK screen button to proceed.

5. Press the DEST control button.

Enter a destination. See Destination on page 37 for more information on how to enter a destination.

6. Press the Mark screen button from the map screen to add the current final destination as a preset destination.

The address book screen will appear.

7. Press the Name screen button. An alpha-keyboard will display. Enter the name.

8. Press and hold one of the screen buttons at the bottom of the screen until a pop-up confirmation displays.

The name will appear in that preset destination screen button and is now available to select from the Destination Entry screen. See “Using Your Stored

Preset Destinations” next in this section to select it as a destination.

See “Adding or Changing Preset Destinations” under Destination on page 37 for information on how to add preset destinations.

Using Your Stored Preset Destinations

These destinations are available for selection while driving.

1. If the radio is already on with a map disc inserted, skip to Step 5.

2. Press

O to turn the system on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc. See “Installing the Map DVD” under Maps on page 29 for more information.

4. A caution may appear. Press the OK screen button to proceed.

5. Press the DEST control button.

6. Press one of the available preset destination screen buttons. A map screen, with the destination marked, will appear.

7. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest, or Other). The system will calculate and highlight the route.

8. Press the Start screen button. You are now ready to start your route.

See “Preset Destination” under Destination on page 37 for more information.

Canceling Guidance

Guidance will be canceled once you arrive at your final destination. To cancel guidance prior to arrival at the final destination, do the following:

1. Press the DEST control button.

2. Press the Cancel Guidance screen button.

Guidance Volume

To adjust the volume of voice guidance prompts, do the following:

1. Press the MENU control button to enter the menu options, then press the MENU control button repeatedly until Nav is selected or press the Nav screen button.

2. Press the

> Voice Prompt

screen button.

3. Press the + or – screen buttons to increase or to decrease the volume of the voice prompts.

Cleaning the Display Screen

Use a soft clean cotton cloth dampened with clean water.

AM-FM Radio

Notice: Before adding any sound equipment to the vehicle, such as an audio system, CD player, CB radio, mobile telephone, or two-way radio, make sure that it can be added by checking with your dealer. Also, check federal rules covering mobile radio and telephone units. If sound equipment can be added, it is very important to do it properly. Added sound equipment can interfere with the operation of the vehicle's engine, radio, or other systems, and even damage them. The vehicle's systems can interfere with the operation of sound equipment that has been added.

Notice: The chime signals related to safety belts, parking brake, and other functions of the vehicle operate through the navigation system. If that equipment is

replaced or additional equipment is added to the vehicle, the chimes may not work. Make sure that replacement or additional equipment is compatible with the vehicle before installing it. See “Accessories and Modifications” in the vehicle's owner manual.

Playing the Radio

O (Power/Volume): Press this

knob to turn the audio system on and off. Turn the knob to increase or to decrease the volume.

f (Tuning/Sound Knob): Turn this

knob to go to the next or previous frequency. Press this knob to display the Sound menu. See “Sound Menu” later in this section.

AUDIO: Press to display the audio screen. Press to switch between AM, FM, or XM, if equipped, Disc, or AUX (Auxiliary), or press the screen button. See Using the Navigation System on page 27, or CD/DVD Player on page 18, and Auxiliary Devices on page 27 for more information.

Finding a Station

If viewing a map screen, press the source screen (AM, FM, XM (if equipped), CD, etc.) button. The display will split between the audio screen and the map screen. All station-changing functions can be performed from this screen.

If you do not want to view a split screen or you are not on a map screen, press the AUDIO control button.

AM/FM/XM: Press the source (AM, FM, or XM, if equipped) screen button or press the AUDIO control button repeatedly until the desired source is highlighted.

Category: Press the screen button,

located in the middle of the screen, to receive a list of all of the selected band stations in the area. Use the up and down arrow screen buttons to scroll the frequencies. Press the desired frequency.

XM lists will also contain a category to select and the stations or channels that pertain to the category. For XM, touch the left and right arrow screen buttons to change categories. The station

information will appear on the display. See “Radio Menu” later in this section to add and remove XM categories from the category list. When listening to XM stations, you will be able to select all of the categories when using the right and left arrow screen buttons on the main audio screen. The categories, when removed, will not be enabled to select from the category list screen.

FM lists may contain a category to select if stations in your area support Radio Data Systems (RDS).

$ Refresh List: Press this screen

button to refresh the list of stations.

When viewing a map screen, the name of the station or channel appears on the display.

¨ SEEK / © SEEK: To seek

stations, press the left or right arrow to go to the next or previous station.

To scan stations, press and hold either arrow for more than two seconds. The radio goes to a

station, plays for a few seconds, then goes to the next station. To stop scanning, press either arrow again.

Storing Preset Stations

This feature allows storage of up to 30 preset stations. You can mix AM, FM, and XM (if equipped). To store presets:

1. Press

O to turn the system on.

2. If viewing a map screen, press the source screen button, press the AUDIO control button, or press the FAV (favorite) control button.

3. Select the band.

4. Seek, scan, or tune to the desired station, to select the station.

5. Press and hold one of the preset screen buttons for more than two seconds or until you hear a beep.

6. Repeat the steps for each preset.

Sound Menu

Digital Signal Processing (DSP)

or press the MENU control button to access the Sound menu to adjust the treble, midrange, bass, fade, balance, and equalization or Digital Signal Processing (DSP), if the vehicle has the Bose

sound

system.

Setting the Tone

TREBLE: Press the + or − sign to

increase or decrease the treble. If a station is weak or noisy, decrease the treble.

MID (Midrange): Press the + or − sign to increase or decrease the midrange.

BASS: Press the + or − sign to increase or decrease the bass.

Adjusting the Speakers

L/R (Left/Right) (Balance): To

adjust the balance between the left and the right speakers, press and hold the L or R screen buttons. To center the balance and the fade, press the center, where the two lines meet.

Front/Rear (Fade): To adjust the fade between the front and the rear speakers, press and hold the Front or Rear screen buttons. To center the balance and the fade, press the center, where the two lines meet.

Automatic Equalization

If the system has automatic equalization, select customized equalization settings designed for Talk, Rock, Country, Pop, and Classical. Press one of the equalization screen buttons to hear the change in sound. The system saves separate settings for each source.

To not use an automatic equalization setting, press any of the screen buttons that will change the treble, midrange, bass, balance, or fade. This takes the system out of the equalization settings so that you can create your own sound.

Digital Signal Processing (DSP)

If the system has the Bose

sound system, the system has Digital Signal Processing (DSP). DSP is used to provide a choice of four different listening experiences. DSP can be used while listening to the audio system. The type of DSP selected is displayed on the status line.

Select from the following DSP settings for the AM-FM radio:

Normal: Press this screen button to adjust the audio to be in normal mode. This provides the best sound quality or all seating positions.

Rear: Press this screen button to adjust the audio to give the rear seat occupants the best possible sound quality.

Driver: Press this screen button to adjust the audio to give the driver the best possible sound quality.

Radio Menu

Press the MENU control button to enter the menu screen, then press the MENU control button repeatedly until Radio is selected or press the Radio screen button to make changes for radio information displayed or to limit features while driving, number of preset pages, and Automatic Volume Control or Bose AudioPilot

Limit Features While Driving

Press the Limit Features While Driving screen button to turn on and off the ability to limit functions while driving. When this screen button is highlighted, the following functions are limited while driving:

Music Navigator Scrolling

Radio Category Scrolling

Navigation Menu Scrolling and some functions

Number of Preset Pages

Press the

/ Number of Preset

Pages screen button to change the number of preset pages, 1 through 6. Each preset page can contain five preset stations. Press the desired numbered screen button.

Automatic Volume Control or Bose AudioPilot

> Automatic Volume Control:

With automatic volume control, your audio system adjusts automatically to make up for road and wind noise as you drive.

To use Automatic Volume Control:

1. Set the volume at the desired level.

2. Press the MENU control button to enter the menu screen, then press the MENU control button repeatedly until Radio is selected or press the Radio screen button

3. Press the

> Automatic Volume

Control screen button.

4. Press the LOW, MEDIUM, or HIGH screen buttons. Each higher setting allows for more compensation at faster vehicle speeds.

Then, while driving, automatic volume control automatically increases the volume, as necessary, to overcome noise at any speed. The volume level should always sound the same. To turn automatic volume control off, press the OFF screen button.

AudioPilot: If the system has the Bose audio system, it includes Bose AudioPilot noise compensation technology.

To use AudioPilot:

1. Press the MENU control button to enter the menu screen, then press the MENU control button repeatedly until Radio is selected or press the Radio screen button

2. Press the

> Automatic Volume

Control screen button to access the AudioPilot menu.

3. Press the ON screen button.

To turn it off, press the OFF screen button.

When on, AudioPilot continuously adjusts the audio system equalization, to compensate for background noise, so that your music always sounds the same at the set volume level.

This feature is most effective at lower volume settings where background noise can affect how well you hear the music being played through your vehicle's audio system. At higher volume settings, where the music is much louder than the background noise, there may be little or no adjustments by AudioPilot. Radio Data System (RDS)

The audio system has a Radio Data System (RDS). RDS features are available for use only on FM stations that broadcast RDS information. With RDS, the radio can do the following:

Seek to stations broadcasting the selected type of programming

Receive announcements concerning local and national emergencies

Display messages from radio stations

This system relies on receiving specific information from these stations and will only work when the information is available. In rare cases, a radio station may broadcast incorrect information that will cause the radio features to work improperly. If this happens, contact the radio station.

The RDS system is always on. When information is broadcast from the FM station you are listening to, the station name or call letters will be displayed on the audio screen. RDS may provide a program type (PTY) for current programming and the name of the program being broadcasted.

Satellite Radio

XM™ Satellite Radio Service

XM™ is a satellite radio service that is based in the 48 contiguous United States and 10 Canadian provinces. XM™ Satellite Radio has a wide variety of programming and commercial-free music, coast-to-coast, and in digital-quality sound. During your trial or when you subscribe, you will get unlimited access to XM™ Radio Online for when you are not in the vehicle.

A service fee is required to receive the XM™ service. For more information, contact XM™ at www.xmradio.com or call 1-800-929-2100 in the U.S. and www.xmradio.ca or call 1-877-438-9677 in Canada.

When XM™ is active, the channel name and number, song title, and artist will display on the screen.

XM™ Radio Messages

See “XM™ Radio Messages” in the vehicle's owner manual” for a list of possible XM messages.

Audio Players

CD/DVD Player

The player can be used for CDs, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/ RW media along with MP3 and un-protected WMA formats. See “Playing an Audio CD” and “Playing a DVD” after in this section for more information.

With the ignition on, insert a disc partway into the slot, label side up. The player pulls it in and begins playing.

The CD player can play the smaller 3 inch (8 cm) single CDs with an adapter ring. Full-size CDs and the smaller CDs are loaded in the same manner.

While playing a CD, the navigation system is available. If you insert a CD with the system off and the ignition on, it will start to play. As

each new track starts to play, the track number appears on the display.

If a CD error appears on the display, see “CD/DVD Messages” later in this section.

When a CD is inserted, the CD tab displays.

If you turn off the ignition or radio with a CD in the player, it stays in the player. When you turn on the ignition or radio, the CD starts playing where it stopped, if it was the last selected source.

Playing an Audio CD

j / r (Pause/Play): Press this

button to pause the CD. This button will then change to the play button. Touch the play button to play the CD.

RANDOM: Press this button to hear the tracks in random, rather than sequential, order. Touch RANDOM again to turn off random play.

r (Rewind): Touch and hold this

button to rewind quickly through a track selection. You will hear sound at a reduced volume. Touch this button again to stop rewinding. The display will show the elapsed time of the track.

[ (Forward): Touch and hold this

button to fast forward quickly through a track selection. You will hear sound at a reduced volume. Touch this button again to stop fast forwarding. The display will show the elapsed time of the track.

¨ SEEK / © SEEK: Press the right

arrow to go to the next track. Press the left arrow to go to the start of the current track, if more than eight seconds have played. If either arrow is pressed more than once, the player will continue moving backward or forward through the CD. The sound will mute while seeking.

You can also turn the tune knob to seek to the next or previous track.

Z (Eject): Press this button to

eject a CD or DVD. If a CD or DVD is ejected, but not removed, the player will automatically pull it back in after 15 seconds.

If loading and reading of a CD cannot be completed, such as unknown format, etc., and the disc fails to eject, press and hold the CD eject button for more than five seconds to force the disc to eject.

Playing a DVD

This feature will not operate unless the vehicle is in P (Park).

The DVD player is only compatible with DVDs of the appropriate region code that is printed on the jacket of most DVDs.

The DVD slot is compatible with most audio CDs, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, DVD-R/ RW, DVD+R/RW media along with MP3 and un-protected WMA formats.

There are three ways to play a DVD:

Once a DVD is inserted, the system will automatically start play of the DVD.

If you are on a map screen, touch the DVD screen button.

Press the AUDIO hard key, then touch the DVD screen button.

O (Power/Volume): Press to turn

the system on and off. Turn to increase or decrease the volume of the audio system.

DVD Menu Options

Once a DVD starts to play, the menu options will automatically appear. To display the menu choices while a DVD is playing in full screen, press anywhere on the screen.

There are three pages of menu options. Press the right and left arrow screen buttons to use all of the menu screen buttons. Menu options are available when they are highlighted. Some menu options are only available when the DVD is not playing.

Full: Press this screen button to remove all menu options from the display. Press anywhere on the screen to display the menu options.

Cursor: Press this button to access the cursor menu. The arrows and other cursor options allow you to navigate the DVD menu options. The cursor menu options are only available if a DVD has a menu.

q, Q , r , R (Arrow Buttons):

Use these arrow buttons to move around the DVD menu.

Enter: Press this button to select the highlighted option.

Return: Press this button to go back to the previous DVD menu.

Back: Press this button to go back to the main DVD display screen.

Move: Press this button to move the cursor buttons back and forth from the bottom-right corner to the top-left corner of the screen.

j / r (Pause/Play): Press this

button to pause the DVD. This button will then change to the play button. Press the play button to play the DVD.

Search: Press this button to display the title search screen. The keyboard allows you to type in the title number of the title that you would like to watch.

Setup: Press this button to display the DVD Setup screen. This button is only available when the DVD is not playing. The DVD Setup screen allows you to change the brightness, contrast, and mode, change the viewing on the monitor, and to change the initial settings; language, parental level, and aspect.

! (Brightness): Press the up or

down screen arrows to increase or decrease the brightness of the navigation screen.

_ (Contrast): Press the up or

down screen arrows to increase or decrease the contrast of the navigation screen.

Auto (Automatic): Press this screen button for the system to automatically adjust the navigation screen background depending on exterior lighting conditions.

Night: Press this screen button and the system will make the navigation screen background darken.

Day: Press this screen button and the system will make the navigation screen background brighten.

Monitor: From the DVD Setup screen, touch this button to adjust the viewing angle of the DVD on the navigation screen. This is not available on all DVDs.

Initial Settings: From the DVD

Setup screen, press this button to change audio, subtitle, and menu languages, parental level, and to view the aspect of the DVD. The movie must be stopped to use this menu. These settings are not available on all DVDs.

Audio Language: Press English, Francais, or Espanol to change the language that you are listening to.

Subtitle Language: Press English, Francais, or Espanol to change the language of the subtitles.

Menu Language: Press English, Francais, or Espanol to change the language of the menus.

Parental Level: Press this button to change the rating level to only allow the play of DVDs with a certain rating. The rating selection is 1 through 8, with 1 being a G rating. If the 1 is selected, any DVD with a rating above G will not be able to be viewed without entering a password.

When the parental level screen is first entered a keyboard will appear on the display and a four-digit password will need to be created. Type in a password that you will be able to remember. Once the password is created, you can then select a rating level.

If you would like to change the rating level, press the Parental Level button, then press the Password button. Type in the password and then change the rating level.

If the password is forgotten, contact your dealer.

This may not be available on all DVDs.

Aspect: Press this button to change the aspect ratio of the DVD. This may not be available on all DVDs.

Audio: Press this button to display the audio stream number and to change the language heard. Repeatedly press this button to toggle through the available languages. This may not be available on all DVDs. This button is not available when the DVD is stopped.

Subtitle: Press this button to playback the video with subtitles. Repeatedly press this button to toggle through the available languages. To turn the subtitles off, press this button until Off is selected. This button is not available when the DVD is stopped. This may not be available on all DVDs.

CD/DVD Messages

If Disc Read Error appears on the display and/or the CD/DVD comes out, it could be for one of the following reasons:

If a disc was inserted with an invalid or unknown format.

If the map DVD disc was installed into the audio/video player. See “Installing the Map DVD” under Maps on page 29 for more information.

It is very hot. When the temperature returns to normal, the CD/DVD should play.

You are driving on a very rough road. When the road becomes smoother, the CD/DVD should play.

The CD/DVD is dirty, scratched, wet, or upside down.

The air is very humid. If so, wait about an hour and try again.

There may have been a problem while burning the CD/DVD.

The label may be caught in the CD/DVD player.

If the CD/DVD is not playing correctly, for any other reason, try a known good CD/DVD.

If any error occurs repeatedly or if an error cannot be corrected, contact your dealer.

MP3

Using an MP3 CD

MP3 Format

There are guidelines that must be met, when creating an MP3 disc. If the following guidelines are not met when recording a CD-R(W), the CD may not play.

Sampling rate: 16 kHz,

22.05 kHz, 24 kHz, 32 kHz, and

44.1 kHz.

Bit rates supported: 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 80, 96, 112, 128, 160, 192, 224, 256, and 320 kbps.

ID3 tag information is displayed by the radio if it is available. The radio supports ID3 tag information v1.0 or v1.1. The radio will display a filename, song name, artist name, album name, and directory name.

Maximum 32 characters, including spaces, in a file or folder name.

Maximum number of folders is 253 with a maximum hierarchy of eight folders.

Create a folder structure that makes it easy to find songs while driving. Organize songs by albums using one folder for each album. Each folder or album should contain 18 songs or less.

It is recommended that there is a maximum of 192 files on a disc.

The files can be recorded on a CD-R or CD-RW with a maximum capacity of 700 MB.

DVD with MP3 are not playable on this system.

Root Directory

The root directory will be treated as a folder. If the root directory has compressed audio files, the directory will be displayed as ROOT. All files contained directly under the root directory will be accessed prior to any root directory folders.

However, playlists (Px) will always be accessed before root folders or files.

Empty Directory or Folder

If a root directory or a folder exists somewhere in the file structure that contains only folders/subfolders and no compressed files directly beneath them, the player will advance to the next folder in the file structure that contains compressed audio files and the empty folder will not be displayed or numbered.

No Folder

When the CD contains only compressed files, the files will be located under the root folder. The next and previous folder functions will have no function on a CD that was recorded without folders or playlists. When displaying the name of the folder the radio will display ROOT.

Order of Play

Tracks will be played in the following order:

Play will begin from the first track in the first playlist and will continue sequentially through all tracks in each playlist. When the last track of the last playlist has been played, play will continue from the first track of the first playlist.

If the CD does not contain any playlists, then play will begin from the first track under the root directory. When all tracks from the root directory have been played, play will continue from files according to their numerical listing. After playing the last track from the last folder, play will begin again at the first track of the first folder or root directory.

When play enters a new folder, the display will not automatically show the new folder name. The new track name will appear on the display.

File System and Naming

The song name that will display will be the song name that is contained in the ID3 tag. If the song name is not present in the ID3 tag, then the radio will display the file name without the extension (such as .mp3) as the track name.

Track names longer than 32 characters or four pages will be shortened. The display will not show parts of words on the last page of text and the extension of the filename will not display.

Preprogrammed Playlists

You can access preprogrammed playlists which were created by WinAmp™, MusicMatch™, or Real Jukebox™ software, however, you will not have editing capability. These playlists will be treated as special folders containing compressed audio song files.

Playing an MP3

With the ignition on, insert a CD partway into the slot, label side up. The player will pull it in and the CD should begin playing. While playing a CD, the navigation system is available. If you insert a CD with the system off and the ignition on, it will start to play.

When you insert a CD, the CD tab will display.

If you turn off the ignition or radio with a CD in the player, it will stay in the player. When you turn on the ignition or radio, the CD will start playing where it stopped, if it was the last selected audio source.

As each new track starts to play, the track number will appear on the display.

The CD player can play the smaller 8 cm (3 inch) single CDs with an adapter ring. Full-size CDs and the smaller CDs are loaded in the same manner.

Auxiliary Devices

The navigation system has an auxiliary input jack located in the lower right corner of the faceplate. This is not an audio output; do not plug the headphone set into the front auxiliary input jack. You can however, connect an external audio device such as an iPod

, laptop computer, MP3 player, CD changer, etc. to the auxiliary input jack for use as another source for audio listening.

Drivers are encouraged to set up any auxiliary device while the vehicle is in P (Park). See “Defensive Driving” in the Index of the vehicle's owner manual for more information on driver distraction.

To use a portable audio player, connect a 3.5 mm (1/8 inch) cable to the auxiliary input jack. When a device is connected, the system will detect and automatically begin playing audio from the device over the vehicle's speakers.

If a device is connected and you are listening to another source (FM, CD, MP3, etc.), press the AUDIO control button to enter the audio menu, then press the AUDIO control button repeatedly until AUX is selected or press the AUX screen button. An auxiliary device must be connected for the AUX screen button to appear as an option to select.

Navigation

Using the Navigation System

This section presents basic information needed to operate the navigation system.

Use the control buttons located on the navigation system along with the available touch-sensitive screen buttons on the navigation screen to operate the system. See Configure Menu on page 49 for more information.

Once the vehicle is moving, various functions will be disabled to reduce driver distractions.

Control Buttons

The following control buttons are located on the navigation system:

O (Power/Volume): Press this

knob to turn the system on and off. Turn this knob to increase or decrease the volume to the audio system.

Press this knob to access the Sound screen to adjust bass, midrange, treble, and equalization or Digital Signal Processing (DSP), if the vehicle has the Bose

sound system. Turn this knob to go to the next or previous radio station. See

AM-FM Radio on page 12 and Satellite Radio on page 17 for more

information.

Z (CD/DVD Eject): Press to eject

CDs or DVDs. See CD/DVD Player on page 18 for more information.

NAV (Navigation): Press to view your vehicle's current position on the map screen. Each press of this control button will cycle through the tabs at the top of the screen, Full Map and the tab that displays the current audio source (AM, FM, CD, etc.). Full Map displays the screen in full map view. Selecting the audio tab will split the screen between the map screen and the current audio source screen menu. See AM-FM

Radio on page 18, Satellite Radio on page 17, and CD/DVD Player on page 18 for more information.

DEST (Destination): Press this control button to access the Destination Entry screen to plan a destination or to change the search area. See Destination on page 37 for more information.

RPT (Navigation Repeat): Press this control button to repeat the last voice guidance prompt.

FAV (Favorite): Press this control button to access the preset stations. See “Storing Preset Stations” under

AM-FM Radio on page 12 and Satellite Radio on page 17 for more

information.

AUDIO: Press this control button to access the full Audio screen to change AM, FM, XM (if equipped), CD, DVD, and auxiliary input. See

AM-FM Radio on page 12, Satellite Radio on page 17, and CD/DVD Player on page 18 for more

information.

MENU: Press this control button to adjust features for sound, radio, navigation, and the display. See

Using the Navigation System on page 27 for more information.

Alpha-Numeric Keyboard

Letters of the alphabet, symbols, punctuation, and numbers, when available, will display on the navigation screen as an alpha or numeric keyboard. The alpha keyboard will display when the system requires entry of a city or street name.

All characters are touch-sensitive screen buttons. Press a character to select it.

A-Y (Accent Alphabet): Press this screen button to select letters with accent symbols. This button may toggle to A-Z.

A-Z (Alphabet): Press this screen button to select letters from the alphabet. This button may toggle to A-Y.

0-9 (Numbers): Press this screen button to select numbers.

U (Space): Press the space

screen button to enter a space between characters or the words of a name.

q (Backspace): Press the

backspace screen button if an incorrect character has been selected.

To make name selections easier, the system will only highlight the characters that can follow the last one entered. For example, if a Z is entered, a T may not be available for selection.

If a name does not display after entry, it may need to be entered differently, the map DVD disc may not contain that information, or the correct search area has not been selected. See Database Coverage Explanations on page 63 for more information or Destination on page 37 to change the search area.

Maps

This section includes basic information needed to know about the map database.

The maps are stored on a DVD. The 48 contiguous United States and portions of Canada are contained on one disc.

Installing the DVD Map Disc

When a DVD Map Disc is installed, noise from the disc may occur when entering the vehicle and turning the vehicle off, this is normal system operation.

Your dealer may have installed the map DVD. If the map DVD was not installed, do the following to load it:

Read the following steps completely before operating this feature.

1. Turn the ignition on.

2. Press

O to turn the navigation

system on.

1. Press the MENU control button to enter the Menu options, then press the MENU control button repeatedly until Nav is selected or press the Nav screen button.

2. Press the Map Database Information screen button.

3. Press the Change screen button. The screen will tilt, exposing the map DVD slot and the map DVD will eject. Pull the disc out.

4. Press the Close screen button. The screen will close.

Handling the DVD Map Disc

When handling the DVD map disc, be careful of the following:

Handle the disc very carefully to avoid contamination or flaws. Signals may not read out properly if the disc gets contaminated or flawed.

If the disc gets soiled, use a soft cloth to gently wipe it out from the center of the disc to the outside. Do not use photographic record cleaner, solvents, or other cleaners.

Do not use the disc to rest on while writing or drawing using any writing utensil or attach a seal to any of the sides or the disc.

Do not keep the disc in direct sunlight, high temperatures, or humidity.

After using the disc, place it back into the original case.

Map Adjustments

The system allows you to adjust the scale of view on the map. Also, as you drive, the map will scroll automatically based on the direction of travel.

Map Scales

V / U (Zoom In/Zoom Out):

Press the zoom in or out screen buttons or the scale on the bar to change the level of map detail. The scale will appear on the screen once the zoom in or zoom out screen buttons are selected. The system will adjust the map accordingly. The scale of a map can range from 45 m (150 ft) to 402 km (250 mi). To change from English or metric, see “Driver Information Center, DIC Controls and Displays” in the Index of your vehicle's owner manual.

Scrolling the Map

Press anywhere on the map screen and the scroll symbol will appear. Use this feature to scroll across the map.

Move your finger in any direction on the map screen and the map will continue to scroll in that direction until you remove your finger.

If scrolling while your vehicle is in Park (P), the system will scroll initially at a slower rate. It will increase if you continue pressing the map screen.

If scrolling while your vehicle is in motion, you have one scroll speed and a limited distance to scroll. You have to keep pressing the map screen to scroll for a longer distance.

If you have used the scroll feature to scroll the map and your vehicle icon becomes lost, press the NAV (Navigation) control button to return to the current vehicle location on the map.

You can use the scroll feature on the map to set a destination. See

“Pick from Map” under Destination on page 37 for more information.

When scrolling on the map without a planned route, press the Go screen button to calculate the route from your current position to the destination mark.

Navigation Symbols

The following symbols are the most common symbols that will appear on a map screen.

Your vehicle is shown as this symbol. It indicates the current position and heading direction of your vehicle on the map.

The destination symbol will appear on the map, after a route has been planned, marking your final destination.

The waypoint symbol will display on the map after a waypoint has been added to your route.

The waypoint symbol will be numbered from one through three depending on how many intermediate waypoints have been set.

The distance to destination symbol indicates the distance to your final destination.

It only appears when you are scrolling on the map.

The distance and time to destination symbol indicates the distance and the estimated time remaining to your final destination or arrival time, depending on the option selected.

The straight line to distance symbol indicates the straight-line distance to your destination.

This symbol will appear before you start driving on the route or if you are on a road where navigation guidance cannot be given.

The north up symbol indicates the map with North Up, known as North Up mode.

While in North Up mode, the vehicle icon will follow the north direction on the map regardless of which direction the vehicle is traveling. Select this screen symbol to switch between North Up and Heading Up modes.

The heading up symbol indicates the map with the vehicle travel direction up, known as Heading Up mode.

The shaded triangle indicates the North direction. While in Heading Up mode, the direction your vehicle is traveling will always be at the top of the map screen. The vehicle icon will always be headed in the direction your vehicle is traveling. Select this screen symbol to switch between Heading Up and North Up modes.

The No GPS symbol will appear when your vehicle is not receiving a Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite signal.

See Global Positioning System (GPS) on page 61 for more information.

Press the Mark screen button to store the location on the screen in your address book.

The system will automatically store the point in the address book. See “Adding Destinations to the Address Book” under Destination on page 37 for more information.

Displaying Points of Interest (POI) on the Map Screen

Press anywhere on the map to display the POI (Point of Interest) screen button.

Press the POI screen button to display or delete POI icons from the map. Displaying POI icons on the map let you know where POIs (e.g. restaurants, gas stations, etc.) are located. This screen will appear after selecting the POI screen button.

Press one of the POI categories to display or to delete POI icons from the map screen. Once a category has been selected, the POI icon will display at the top of the screen.

Five categories can be selected to display on the map screen. When a category is selected those POI icons will display on the map. Press the POI screen button again to add more POI icons.

More: Press this screen button to view more POI categories.

POI Close to: Once a category has been selected, press this screen button to display the list of available POIs for the selected POI categories. The list provides the POI icon, the name, the direction, and the distance to the POI from your

vehicles current position. Use the scroll arrows to move up and down the list. Use the Sort by DIST. (distance), Icon, Name, and, on Route as desired.

Go: Press this screen button, next to the desired POI, to make this POI a destination or a waypoint.

Select a POI name to receive information about the POI. From this screen you can select: Add to Address Book, Go, or Map.

Add to Address Book: Press this screen button to add this POI to the address book. See “Nav” under

Using the Navigation System on page 27 for information on editing

address book entries.

Go: Press this screen button to make this POI a destination or a waypoint.

Map: Press this screen button to display the map showing the location of the POI.

Show: Press this screen button to update the map screen and the list once a category has been selected.

Show POI: Press ON to display the POI icons on the map screen. Press OFF to remove the POI icons from the map screen.

List all Categories: Press this screen button to list all POIs sorted alphabetically.

Clear: To delete a category, do one of the following:

To delete the last added POI category, press the Clear screen button.

To delete a specific POI category:

1. Select the category.

2. Select the subcategory.

3. A pop-up confirmation will display. Press the Delete screen button, the map screen will display with that POI category deleted.

Clear All: Press this screen button

to clear all selected POI categories. A pop-up confirmation will display. Press the Delete screen button, the map screen will display with all POI categories deleted.

Driving on a Route

When a destination has been routed and you are driving on route, the map screen will automatically display the next maneuver.

This next maneuver pop-up will display the next maneuver direction and how many miles or kilometers you are from it.

Dual Mode

This dual screen symbol displays when the screen is in dual mode.

Dual mode displays the route on half of the screen and a maneuver or Interstate Exit list on the other half. The Interstate Exit list advises of approaching exits. Press this

button to switch between dual screen and full screen which displays the entire route.

When approximately 0.08 km (1/2 mi) from the next maneuver, or two miles while on expressways, the screen displays the name and a detailed view of the next maneuver. Press the dual mode button to hide the detailed turn maneuver view for this maneuver only.

Auto Reroute

When your destination is set and you are off the planned route, the system will automatically plan a new route and begin to reroute. You will be able to see the new route highlighted on the screen.

Traveling Across Regions

If you plan to drive across many states, you may have to change the region selected to represent the area you are traveling to. To change the region, do one of the following:

Change the selected region in the search area when you get closer to your destination. See Destination on page 37.

Change the selected region in the search area when entering your destination and route settings. See Destination on page 37.

For example, if you were traveling from Michigan to Florida, change the region currently selected in the search

area to Florida. Enter a destination in Florida under the Destination Entry menu.

Destination

Press the DEST control button to access the Destination Entry screen. From this screen, you can select from several options to plan a route by entering destination points.

Search Area

The Destination Entry screen allows you to select the area included in the search for your destination.

A map that divides the 48 contiguous United States and a part of Canada into 11 regions is displayed.

Before selecting a method of destination entry, review the search area map to make sure your destination is located in the highlighted region.

Press the Change Search Area screen button to view the Search Area screen. Press the numbered screen button to the left of the search area map that corresponds with the numbered region and to

view a list of states included in the region selected. The selected area will be highlighted on the map. Press the down arrow to select CAN (Canada). Press the back screen button to return to the Destination Entry screen and to store the selected region.

To enter a destination, choose from one of the following destination entry methods:

Address Entry

6 Address Entry: The address

entry destination method allows you to enter an address by providing the system with a city name or a street name.

If you are having trouble finding a city or a street name, do the following:

Input the street name first instead of the city name, or vice versa.

Input more characters or reduce the amount of characters to reduce or expand the available options.

To enter a destination by entering the city name first, do the following:

1. Press the DEST control button.

2. Press the

4. Enter the city name or press the Last 5 Cities screen button.

The Last 5 Cities screen will display a list of the last five city names that had been entered. Select a city from the list and it will appear in the City name area.

If using the alpha keyboard, finish entering the city name. If five or less names are available, a list will display. If more than five are available, there will be a screen button with a number in it, it represents the number of available cities. Select this button to view the list and select a city.

5. Once a city has been selected the Street name category will automatically be selected for entry.

Start entering the street name. If five or less names are available, a list will display. If more than five are available, there will be a screen button with

a number in it, it represents the number of available streets. Select this button to view the list.

6. Select the street name with the correct prefix (Dr., Ln, St., etc.) from the list.

8. Press the Go screen button. The map screen, with the destination marked, will display.

9. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest, or Other). The system will calculate and highlight the route.

10. Press the Start screen button.

You are now ready to start your route.

Point of Interest (POI)

The Point of Interest (POI) destination entry method allows you to select a destination from the POI list.

i Point of Interest: Press this screen button to access the Point of Interest (POI) screen. From this screen you have two options to select/enter a destination; enter the name using the alpha keyboard or select a category from the category list.

To use the point of interest destination entry method by entering the name, do the following:

1. Press the DEST control button.

2. Press the i Point of Interest screen button.

3. Enter the POI name.

If five or less names are available, a list will display. If more than five are available, there will be a screen button with a number in it, it represents the number of available POIs. Press this button to view the list.

4. Press the Go screen button next to the POI. The map screen, with the destination marked, will display.

5. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest, or Other). The system will calculate and highlight the route.

6. Press the Start screen button. You are now ready to start your route.

To use the point of interest destination entry method by selecting a category, do the following:

4. Select a category, and then a sub-category.

The system will display available POI names in the selected sub-category or if the list is too long the system will display the alpha keyboard.

OnStar®Destination Downloa d

OnStar Destination Download (if equipped) is a service available for OnStar subscribers that makes operating your navigation system much simpler. It allows subscribers to request and receive navigation assistance on-the-go.

Using OnStar®Destination Download

Press the blue OnStar button and an Advisor can locate a point-of-interest or an address and download the necessary information or coordinates to your navigation system. Once the destination is downloaded, the navigation system will search for the address in the mapping disc's database. When the address is found, it will be shown on your navigation system's screen along with the buttons described below.

OnStar Download Screen

Press the Go screen button, the navigation system calculates route(s). Select a route (i.e. Shortest Route), and Start Guidance.

Press the Map screen button, the navigation system displays the Destination Map Screen.

Press the Call screen button, the navigation system initiates a call to your destination with your Bluetooth phone (if available) or OnStar Hands-Free Calling (if minutes are available).

Press the Add to Address Book screen button, the navigation system copies the downloaded destination to the address book and displays the new address book entry.

Press the Back screen button, the navigation system cancels your OnStar Destination Download and returns to the previous screen. The downloaded address will not be added to the previous destinations.

Start Guidance Screen

Route Guidance Not Active

If an OnStar destination is downloaded while route guidance is not active, the navigation system displays an OnStar Destination Download Screen and operations will continue as outlined in the Using OnStar Destination Download section:

Route Guidance Active

If OnStar downloads a destination while route guidance is already active, the navigation system adds

the downloaded destination as the next waypoint in the existing route. All features such as Call and Add to Address Book will be available for the waypoint. Refer to the section on Waypoints for more information.

Previous Destinations

Previous OnStar Destination Downloads are saved under Previous Destinations in the navigation system where they can be accessed or saved to the address book.

Important Notes regarding OnStar Destination Download:

The map disc must be installed in the radio for OnStar Destination Download to function.

If the navigation system is turned off when the destination download is attempted, the navigation system will automatically turn on and display the OnStar Destination

Download Screen. The radio will remain on after the download occurs.

If the navigation system is turned off when the destination download is attempted, the navigation system will automatically turn on and display the OnStar Destination Download Screen. The radio remains on after the download occurs.

If OnStar downloads a destination and the address is not found in the mapping disc’s database and routing by coordinates is not available, the Go and Map buttons gray out and routing will not be available. Press the blue OnStar button for further assistance.

The Call button grays out when there is no phone number available for your destination and while connected to OnStar.

Map Destination Screen Functions

If the map screen is used to show destination, it will have map screen capabilities such as Go, Mark, Zoom, Scroll, etc. The address is shown at the top of the screen.

Turn List

Turn List: Press this screen button

to view the list of turn maneuvers for the entire route and to avoid turns on the route.

Q / R (Scroll Arrows): Press the

up and down arrow screen buttons to scroll through the list of maneuvers.

Avoid: Press this screen button, next to the adjacent street name, to avoid the maneuver.

The map screen will display. Select the Fastest, Shortest, or Other screen buttons. Press the Start screen button. The route will re-calculate without the selected avoided maneuver.

Avoid List: Press this screen button to cancel an avoided turn. The list of selected avoided turns will display. Select the turn to cancel the turn from being avoided.

Route Preview: Press this screen button to preview the entire route in either direction.

t (Reverse Skip): Press this

screen button to go back to the start point or previous waypoint.

q / r (Reverse Scroll): Press

this screen button to scroll to the start point or previous waypoint. This button will toggle between slow and fast speed.

j (Pause): Press this screen

button to pause the route preview, while in reverse or fast forward scroll.

Detour

Detour: Press this screen button

from the Route screen, then select to detour 1 km, 3 km, or 5 km (1 mile, 3 miles, or 5 miles) around the current route. You may also select to detour the whole route if necessary. This option is only available while you are driving on your current planned route.

Voice Prompt

Press this screen button from the Route screen to turn voice prompts on or off and to change the volume of voice prompts. See “Nav” under

Using the Navigation System on page 27 for more information.

Add Waypoint

Add Waypoint: Press this screen

button from the Route screen. This feature allows you to add up to three waypoints to the current route, between your start point and final destination. Once a waypoint has been added, the points can be edited or deleted.

To add a waypoint:

1. Press the DEST control button.

2. Press the Add Waypoint screen button. This button will only appear if a route has been calculated.

3. Using the desired method of entering a destination, enter the waypoint. See “Destination” previously for more information.

4. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest, or Other). The system will calculate and highlight the route.

5. Press the Start screen button. You are now ready to start your route.

6. To add the second and third waypoints, press the DEST control button, then press the Add screen button, where you would like the next waypoint to fall on the route.

To delete a waypoint from your current route:

3. The system will display a pop-up confirmation message. Choose Yes to delete the waypoint; press No to cancel this operation.

4. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest, or Other). The system will calculate and highlight the route.

5. Press the Start screen button. You are now ready to start your route.

Suspend Guidance

Press this screen button, from the Route screen, to put the current route on hold.

Resume Guidance

Press this screen button, from the Route screen, to resume guidance on the current route.

Cancel Guidance

Press this screen button, from the Route screen, to cancel the current route.

Adding Destinations to the Address Book

There are two ways to add a destination to the address book:

To add the current final destination to the address book, press the Mark screen button from the map screen. The system will automatically save the final destination information in the address book.

Press the Add to Address Book screen button when available on POI information screens, Destination Entry screens, or POI screens. The system will automatically save this information in the address book.

Adding or Changing Preset Destinations

This feature allows you to add or change one of five preset destinations. When a destination has been added as a preset destination, it will be available to select from the Destination Entry screen. See “Preset Destination” previously for information on how to select a preset destination as a final destination.

To store the current final destination as a preset destination:

1. Press the Mark screen button from the map screen to add the current final destination. The Address Book screen will appear.

2. Press the Name screen button. An alpha-keyboard will display. Enter the name.

3. Press and hold one of the buttons at the bottom of the screen until a pop-up confirmation displays.

The name will appear in that preset destination screen button and is now available to select from the Destination Entry screen.

To store an address book entry as a preset destination:

1. Press the MENU control button.

2. Press the Nav screen button or press the MENU control button until the Nav screen button is selected or press the Nav screen button.

3. Press the Edit/View screen button.

4. Select the address book entry that you would like to store as the preset destination. Press the Name screen button to add a name, if needed.

5. Press and hold one of the buttons at the bottom of the screen until a pop-up confirmation displays.

The name will appear in the that preset destination screen button and is now available to select from the Destination Entry screen.

Configure Menu

Press the MENU control button to adjust several of your system's features and preferences. The last selected menu screen will be the screen that displays; Sound, Radio, Nav (navigation), Display or Time.

Radio

Change: Press this screen button to eject or change the map DVD. The screen will tilt, exposing the map DVD slot and, if loaded, the map DVD will eject. Pull the map DVD out. Insert the map DVD partway into the slot. The system will pull it in.

Once the screen is closed press the OK screen button to proceed to the navigation system. See Using the Navigation System on page 27.

Coverage: Press this screen button to view the areas covered by the map DVD.

Press the up and down arrow screen buttons to view each region of the map DVD. The screen will display the major cities for the selected region.

XM NavTraffic™ (USA and Canada)

The vehicle's navigation system may have an XM NavTraffic™ receiver. XM NavTraffic™ is a subscription service provided via XM™ Satellite Radio. XM NavTraffic™ provides real-time traffic information fully integrated to the navigation system to display current traffic conditions for a driver’s chosen route and surrounding area. XM NavTraffic™ allows drivers to make the most informed, timesaving routing decisions.

If the Traffic touch screen button is pressed or if an attempt is made to turn on the traffic display in the Navigation Setup Menu without a subscription, a warning screen displays indicating that XM traffic is not activated.

Three types of traffic information for major roadways are displayed on the navigation system:

Unscheduled traffic incident data, such as accidents and disabled vehicles

Scheduled traffic incident data, such as road construction and road closures

Traffic flow information (rate of speed data)

Traffic information is delivered to the vehicle by the XM™ Radio satellites. XM NavTraffic™ makes it possible for the navigation system to provide continuously updated traffic information personalized for a driver’s needs.

XM NavTraffic™ currently broadcasts the traffic information for many markets nationally, and the service may be available in more cities in the future. Visit www.xmnavtraffic.com for more details on local coverage.

A service fee is required in order to receive the XM NavTraffic™ service.

Turning XM NavTraffic™ On and Off

To turn traffic on or off:

1. Press the MENU control button, then press the MENU control button repeatedly until Nav is selected or press the Nav screen button.

2. Press the Traffic Options button.

3. Press the Traffic button. This button is highlighted when it is active.

Selecting Alert for Approaching Traffic Events enables the system to show a pop-up screen that notifies of possible traffic issues ahead.

When this feature is highlighted, while traveling on a route, accidents located on the route are indicated and can be avoided.

Traffic Icon

The Traffic Icon appears on the Traffic Tab, next to the word Traffic, when traffic is found in the local area.

The Traffic Icon has three different condition displays. These are:

No XM NavTraffic™ subscription.

No Traffic is found in the local area.

The Traffic Feature is turned off.

Traffic events are in the area, but none are on route.

Locations and Information of Traffic Conditions

The system may take some time to sort the information. The list of traffic conditions display in the order of distance from the vehicle, at a minimum of approximately 25 km (16 mi). If traveling on a planned route, the list can be filtered to see traffic conditions along the planned route. Not all traffic conditions may be listed.

To view the traffic condition location and information on the map:

1. Press the NAV control button, then press the NAV control button repeatedly until Traffic is selected, or press the Traffic screen button. A list of traffic conditions with the direction and distance from the vehicle's current position displays.

2. Select a traffic condition to get more detailed information of the event.

Options

Press the Options screen button. A Traffic Options menu displays. Select the desired traffic related option.

Traffic: Press to enable or disable the traffic function.

Show Traffic ICONS: Press to display traffic icons on the map screen. This function allows which traffic information displays.

Traffic Flow Status — This touch screen button is used to enable or disable the green, yellow, red and orange arrows shown beside the roads and used to show the traffic flow or extent of a traffic event.

Black indicates a closed road segment

Yellow indicates slightly impaired traffic flow with average speed between 25 and 45 mph.

Green indicates normal traffic flow with average speed above 45 mph.

Traffic flow data arrows display on the map when scaled up to eight miles.

Closed Road, Traffic Delays, Incidents, and Advisories — These four touch screen buttons are used to turn on and to show traffic event ICONS that appear on the map screens.

Traffic Event Display Categories

The following are traffic condition categories and symbols that can appear on the display:

Category 1, Road Closure:

q (Road Closed): Road and/or

ramps closed.

Category 2, Traffic Delayed:

o / n (Stopped/Slow Traffic):

Traffic stopped, stop and go traffic, delayed and congested traffic.

Category 3, Incidents:

p (Alert): Object in the roadway,

disabled vehicle, or dangerous road conditions.

t (Accident): Roadway obstructed

due to accident.

s (Road Works): Delayed traffic

due to construction.

Category 4, Advisories:

j (Road Condition): Delayed or

stopped traffic, lane blocked or closed due to a road condition.

k (Weather): Heavy rain, snow,

or fog weather condition.

m (Parking): Available

parking area.

l (Information): Special event,

general information, or warning.

Alert for Approaching Traffic Events: When On, if an

approaching traffic event is within the alert range, one of two traffic alert pop-up screens display:

With no route planned, while on expressways, Approaching Traffic Event without Avoid screen displays.

With route planned, Traffic Event on Route screen displays.

If the Alert for Approaching Traffic Events is Off, the alert pop-up screen does not display and no voice announcement when approaching traffic.

On-Route

Press the On Route touch screen button to display all events ahead on the current active route. If no traffic events have been reported on route, this list will be empty.

Avoid List

Press to show previously avoided incidences. Select an incidence to cancel it from being on the avoided list.

Scrolling to Traffic Events on the Map

While scrolling the map, traffic condition icons may appear. To receive information about the traffic condition, place the cross hairs over the traffic condition icon. After selecting the INFO (information) screen button, the type of traffic condition, the street name, and a description of the traffic condition displays. See “Scrolling the Map” under Maps on page 29 for more information.

Press the NAV control button to return to the normal full map screen.

Detailed Traffic Event Screens

There are different types of detailed traffic event screens. Each screen is a variance of the one shown on the Traffic Event Screen.

Traffic Event Screen

The Traffic Event screen can be displayed by:

Scrolling to an event on the map and then pressing INFO.

Selecting a traffic event listed on the Traffic Event List screen.

Selecting a traffic event listed on the Traffic On Route Screen.

Back, Map, More, and Avoid

These buttons have common functions across all three Detailed Traffic Event screens.

Back: Press to return to the previous screen.

Map: Press to show the related traffic event on the map. If selected, the Map Traffic Event Icon screen displays.

More: Press to display more of the traffic event description.

Avoid: This button is used to avoid the location of an event on the route. If selected, a new route is calculated and the related traffic event is avoided. After the new route has been calculated, the navigation system goes to the full map screen and shows the new route.

The Avoid button is only available if the event is on the route ahead and in the Traffic On Route List.

Traffic Voice Prompts

The traffic voice prompts are part of the current navigation voice prompts. If the navigation voice prompts are turned off, all traffic prompts are also turned off.

If the voice prompts are on, whenever an Alert for Approaching Traffic is displayed, the system gives the related voice prompt. The content of the voice prompt depends on actual traffic event data.

The RPT (Repeat) control button is for navigation traffic maneuvers only. It is not used to repeat traffic prompts. During a traffic voice prompt, if RPT is pressed, the current prompt playback cancels.

Anything that cancels the Alert for Approaching Traffic, also cancels the related voice prompt.

Traffic prompts are disabled during OnStar

or Voice Recognition

activity.

Display

Press the MENU control button to enter the Menu options, then press the MENU control button repeatedly until Display is selected or press the Display screen button.

Display Off

Press this screen button to turn the display off. Press any control button to view the display.

Brightness/Contrast/Mode

Press this screen button to change the brightness, contrast, and mode of the display.

] (Brightness): Press the + or −

screen buttons to increase or decrease the brightness of the screen.

_ (Contrast): Press the + or −

screen buttons to increase or decrease the contrast of the screen.

Auto (Automatic): Press this screen button for the system to automatically adjust the screen background depending on exterior lighting conditions.

At night, the brightness can be adjusted with the vehicle dimming knob near the headlamp switch.

Night: Press this screen button and the system will make the map background darker.

Day: Press this screen button and the system will make the map background brighter.

Setting the Clock

Press the MENU control button to enter the menu options, then press the MENU control button repeatedly until the time is selected or press the time screen button, then press the Set screen button.

Hours: Press the − or + signs to decrease or increase the hours.

Minutes: Press the − or + signs to decrease or increase the minutes.

12/24 Format: Select the 12 screen

button for standard time; select the 24 screen button for military time.

Global Positioning System (GPS)

The navigation system determines the position of the vehicle by using satellite signals, various vehicle signals, and map data.

At times, other interferences such as the satellite condition, road configuration, the condition of the vehicle and/or other circumstances can interfere with the navigation system's ability to determine the accurate position of the vehicle.

The GPS shows the current position of the vehicle using signals sent by the GPS Satellites. When the vehicle is not receiving signals from the satellites, a symbol appears on the map screen. Refer to Navigation Symbols on page 32.

This system may not be available or interferences may occur if any of the following is true:

Signals are obstructed by tall buildings, trees, large trucks, or a tunnel.

Objects are located on the rear shelf of the vehicle.

Satellites are being repaired or improved.

After-market glass tinting has been applied to the vehicle's rear windshield.

Notice: Do not apply after-market glass tinting to the vehicle's windows. Glass tinting interferes with the system's ability to receive GPS signals and causes the system to malfunction. The window might have to be replaced to correct the problem. This would not be covered by the warranty.

Vehicle Positioning

At times, the position of the vehicle on the map may be inaccurate due to one or more of the following reasons:

The road system has changed.

The vehicle is driving on slippery road surfaces such as in sand, gravel, and/or snow.

The vehicle is traveling on winding roads.

The vehicle is on a long straight road.

The vehicle is approaching a tall building or a large vehicle.

The surface streets run parallel to a freeway.

The vehicle has just been transferred by a vehicle carrier or a ferry.

The current position calibration is set incorrectly.

The vehicle is traveling at high speed.

The vehicle changes directions more than once, or when the vehicle is turning on a turn table in a parking lot.

The vehicle is entering and/or exiting a parking lot, garage, or a lot with a roof.

The GPS signal is not received.

A roof carrier is installed on your vehicle.

The vehicle is being driven with tire chains.

The tires are replaced.

The tire pressure for your tires is incorrect.

The tires are worn.

The first time the map DVD is inserted.

The battery is disconnected for several days.

The vehicle is driving in heavy traffic where driving is at low speeds, and the vehicle is stopped and started repeatedly.

If problems are experienced with the navigation system, see your dealer.

Problems with Route Guidance

Inappropriate route guidance may occur under one or more of the following conditions:

You have not turned onto the road indicated.

Route guidance may not be available when using automatic rerouting for the next right or left turn.

The route may not be changed when using automatic rerouting.

There is no route guidance when turning at an intersection.

Plural names of places may be announced occasionally.

It may take a long time to operate automatic rerouting during high-speed driving.

Automatic rerouting may display a route returning to the set waypoint if you are heading for a destination without passing through a set waypoint.

The route prohibits the entry of a vehicle due to a regulation by time or season or any other regulation which may be given.

Some routes may not be searched.

The route to the destination may not be shown if there are new roads, if roads have recently changed, or if certain roads are not listed on the map DVD. See Ordering Map DVDs on page 63.

To recalibrate the vehicle's position on the map, see your dealer.

If the System Needs Service

If the navigation system needs service and the steps listed here have been followed but there are still problems, see your dealer for assistance.

Ordering Map DVDs

The map DVD in the vehicle is the most up-to-date information available when the vehicle was produced. The map DVD is updated periodically, provided that the map information has changed.

For any questions about the operation of the navigation system or the update process, contact the GM Nav Disc Center toll‐free phone number, 1‐877‐NAV‐DISC (1‐877‐628‐3472) or go to the center's website, www.gmnavdisc.com. For any updates or replacements, call the GM Nav Disc Center or order a new disc online. Have the Vehicle

Identification Number (VIN) available when ordering to ensure the correct and most up-to-date DVD map disc for the vehicle is sent. See “Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)” in the Index of the vehicle's owner manual for more information.

After receiving the updated disc, replace the old disc in the navigation system. See “Installing the DVD Map Disc” and “Ejecting the DVD Map Disc” under Maps on page 29. Dispose of the old disc to avoid confusion about which disc is the most current.

Database Coverage Explanations

Coverage area depends upon the map detail available. Some areas have greater map detail than others. The navigation system works only as well as the information provided on the map disc. See Ordering Map DVDs on page 63 on how to obtain updated map information.

Voice Recognition

The navigation system's voice recognition allows for hands-free operation of the navigation system, audio system, and OnStar

features. The DVD map disc must be installed in the navigation system for voice recognition to work. See “Installing the DVD Map Disc” under Maps on page 29. Voice recognition can be used when the ignition is on or when Retained Accessory Power (RAP) is active. See “Retained Accessory Power (RAP)” in the Index of your vehicle's owner manual and for more information.

To use voice recognition, do the following:

1. Push and hold the SRCE (source) steering wheel control until you hear a beep. The audio system, if on, will mute.

2. Clearly state one of the commands listed on the following pages.

Helpful Hints for Stating Commands

When a multiple command is available, choose the command that best works for you.

Words that are in brackets are optional. For example, for the command Radio [band] [select] FM, stating Radio FM or Radio select FM are both valid commands.

When the system recognizes the command the system will:

‐ either perform the function

‐ ask you to confirm your choice

by clearly stating “yes or no”

‐ issue an error message such

as “System does not recognize this command” or direct you to “Please start speaking after the beep”

If the system is not yet ready, the system may state “System is checking the disc. Please wait.”.

To cancel a command or if the system response does not match your verbal command, press and hold the talk symbol button. The system will reply, “System will cancel the voice recognition”.

If you experience difficulty with the system recognizing a command, try saying it more softly, and wait for a few seconds after the beep, or you may just try saying it again.

Background noise may cause voice commands to be misunderstood, including airflow noise from wind.

To use the voice recognition system, the map DVD must be loaded.

This system is able to recognize commands in three different languages. The system will only recognize commands based on the language selected from the Driver Information Center (DIC).

Voice Recognition Commands

The following list shows all of the voice commands available for the navigation system with a brief description of each. The commands are listed with the optional words in brackets. To use the voice commands, refer to the instructions listed previously.

Voice Tag Commands

The following are voice tag commands you can access by clearly stating the commands exactly as they are written. You may have up to 40 voice tag entries for destinations.

Navigation go to [destination] (voice tag), navigation select [destination] (voice tag): These

commands instruct the system to select a destination saved under the voice tag you have stored.

When a destination is requested using a voice tag, the system will state, “Press or say cancel if not correct”. To cancel this voice tag destination, using voice recognition, push and hold the SRCE button on the steering wheel until you hear a beep, then say “cancel”. Canceling voice tag destination by voice recognition, must be done within five seconds after the voice prompt.

If you are not currently driving on a route, the system will automatically create the voice tag destination as the final destination. If you are currently driving on a route, the system will automatically create the voice tag destination as a waypoint. Up to three waypoints can be created.

Storing Voice Tags

From the address book entry information page, press the Add Voice tag screen button. The system will respond “Name Please?”.

Navigation Help

Navigation Help: This command

instructs the system to assist with navigation commands.

Display Commands

Use the following display commands to set the display mode.

Display [set] day [mode]: Use this command to set the display to daytime mode.

Display [set] night [mode]: Use this command to set the display to night mode.

Display [set] auto [mode]: Use this command to set the display to automatic mode. The system will change between day and night mode automatically.

System help: This command instructs the system to assist with display commands.

Radio Commands

The following are radio commands you can access by clearly stating the commands exactly as they are written. The commands are only available when you are in one of the following audio modes, AM, FM, or XM™ (if equipped).

Radio: This command instructs the system to turn the audio system on.

Radio [band] [select] AM, radio [band] [select] FM, radio [band] [select] XM, radio [band] [select] satellite: These commands instruct

the system to go to either the AM, FM, or XM (if equipped).

Radio [select] (frequency) AM, radio [select] (frequency) FM:

These commands instruct the system to go to a specific frequency on either AM or FM.

Radio [select] (channel) XM, radio [select] (channel) satellite: These

commands instruct the system to go to a specific channel on the XM™ band (if equipped). The channel must be a valid channel or the system will keep the radio at the current station setting. The system will pause while searching for the channel.

Radio help: This command instructs the system to assist with radio commands.

CD Commands

The following are CD, MP3, and DVD commands that can be accessed by clearly stating the commands exactly as they are written.

CD, DVD, Disc: Use this command to select a CD, DVD, or disc that is currently loaded.

CD, DVD, Disc, [select] track (one, two, three, etc.): This command

instructs the system to select a specific track number.

CD, DVD, Disc select next folder: Use this command to select

the next folder on the MP3 or audio DVD.

CD, DVD, Disc select previous folder: Use this command to select

the previous folder on the MP3 or audio DVD.

CD help, DVD help, Disc help:

This command instructs the system to assist with CD and DVD commands.

Auxiliary Commands

The following auxiliary commands can be accessed by clearly stating the commands exactly as they are written. The commands are available when the auxiliary source is available.
