Check that the seal is in place and in good condition before connecting the gas cartridge to the appliance (see fig. 1). Do not use an appliance that is leaking, damaged or which does not operate properly (malfunctioning). Always operate the appliance on a level surface. Always operate the appliance safely away from flammable materials. Minimum distances are 120cm above the appliance and 60cm to the rear and sides (see fig. 2). Ensure that the gas cartridge is fitted or changed in a well-ventilated location, preferably outdoors, away from any sources of ignition, such as naked flames, and away from other people. If suspect a leak on your appliance (smell of gas), take it outside immediately into a well-ventilated flame free location where the leak may be detected and stopped. If you wish to check for leaks on your appliance, do it outside.
Never leave the appliance unattended when lit. Do not modify the appliance. Do not use it for anything for which it has not been designed.
Do not use the appliance if it has a damaged or worn seal.
Do not try to detect leaks using a flame, the correct way
is to use soapy water.

Before each use, ensure that the fat pan is clean and free of fat . Keep young children away from the appliance at all times. Handle the appliance with care, do not drop it. During use, parts of the appliance will become hot (particularly the burner). Avoid touching hot parts with your bare hands. If you have the need to touch a hot appliance, use gloves. Before fitting the cartridge to the appliance, ensure that the valve seal is place and in good condition. Carry out this check each time you fit a cartridge.
(Model 5910 Only)
?
Ensure that the control knob is turned off (turned fully clockwise) (see fig. 3). Keep the cartridge upright when fitting it to the appliance. Carefully screw the cartridge into the appliance, taking care not to screw the cartridge cross-threaded. Screw the cartridge on hand tight only. Do not over tighten as you may damage the cartridge and appliance threads. Check that the cartridge is connected to the appliance in a gas tight fashion, showing no signs of leakage (check for the smell of gas around the connection joint). If you suspect that the connection in not gas tight enough, soapy water must be applied to the joint (the appliance must not be fully immersed in soapy water as this may result in an unsafe operation of the appliance). Any leak will be seen as bubbles coming from the leakage point. If you cannot remedy any leakage, unscrew the cartridge from the appliance and return the appliance to your nearest CADAC stockist. If you suspect a leakage from your appliance during use, immediately turn off the appliance control knob (turned fully clockwise), take the appliance outside and follow the instructions above. To light the appliance, hold a flame to the burner, turn the control knob slowly anti-clockwise and light the burner (see fig. 4). After lighting, do not move the appliance around during the warm up period (1 minute), as liquid gas may enter the appliance from the cartridge causing it to flare (large yellow flames).
If flaring occurs, turn down the control knob until the flaring stops.
When in use, protect from wind for optimum performance. Adjust the size of the flame by turning the control knob. To increase the size of the flame, turn the control knob in the direction of the ‘+’ (anti-clockwise). To decrease the size of the flame or to turn the appliance off, turn the knob in the direction of the ‘-’ (clockwise) (see fig. 3). After use, always ensure the control knob is turned fully off and the appliance has cooled down sufficiently to be able to be packed away. In the event of light back, where the flame burns back and ignites inside the burner or venturi housing, immediately turn the appliance off by turning the control knob fully clockwise. After the flame is extinguished, remove the gas cartridge and check the condition of the seal; replace the seal if in doubt. Re-light the appliance as described above. Should the flame persistently light back, return the product to your authorised CADAC repair agent.
Flaring may also occur if food with a high fat content is cooked with the heat setting too high. In this instance, reduce the heat setting by adjusting the control knob.

5. Cooking On The Appliance
?
?
Boiling: Place the cooking vessel (pot, pan or kettle) centrally onto the pot stand. Pot sizes that may be used vary between minimum 150mm and 300mm maximum in diameter. Be carefull not to turn the heat up too much when using pots with plastic handles as they may be damaged by heat escaping from underneath the pot. Depending on the conditions and the pot size used, one liter of water will boil in approximately 6 minutes. Grilling and Frying : The non-stick coated aluminium grill plate heats up quickly and evenly, searing meats and locking in their natural juices and flavours.
(Model 5910 only!)
6. Caring For The Grill Plate

?
?
When using the grill plate for the first time, lightly coat the cooking side of the grill plate with oil before heating. Pre-heat the grill plate before cooking and use only low or medium heat settings. Don not over heat the grill plate. Whilst the non-stick coating is very durable, it is recommended to use only plastic or wooden utensils when cooking as metal utensils will tend to damage the coating. Always let the grill plate cool down before immersing it in water. The non-stick coating is perfectly safe in the dishwasher, but its surface is so easy to clean that a quick handwash does the trick. The use of abrasive detergents is not recommended, as this will permanently damage the non-stick surface. If burned grease or food residue collects on the surface, it can usually be removed with warm water and a mild detergent. In an extreme case, it can be removed by a thorough cleaning with a mixture of 3 tablespoons of bleach, 1 tablespoon of liquid detergent and 1 cup of water. Apply to the cooking surface with a sponge or plastic scrubbing pad. After cleaning recondition the surface with a light wipe of oil.
7. General Maintenance

?
To remove the seal from its location groove, use a pointed instrument to lift it out of the groove. Take care not to damage the surface of the location groove. To fit a replacement seal, squeeze the seal to an oval shape, push one end into the location groove, then gently push in the rest of the seal until it is fully fitted into the location groove. If the flame power drops or the burner will not light, check that the gas cartridge still contains gas (shake to hear the noise made by the liquid). If the cartridge still contains gas, the jet may be blocked.
The Jet is now exposed for removal. Unscrew the jet using a suitable size spanner. Do not use pliers as this may damage the jet, making it unusable or impossible to remove. Do not attempt to clean the old jet, rather fit a new jet. Do not over tighten the jet (see fig. 5a-c).
To re-assemble the appliance, gently screw the burner assembly back into position in a clockwise direction.
Replacing a blocked jet
Gently unscrew the burner assembly, by turning it in an anti-clockwise direction.

8. Cleaning
? The appliance is best cleaned by using a soft damp cloth and a mild non-abrasive detergent. Do not place in a dishwasher as this may allow water
into the valve or burner ports which will cause the unit to malfunction. The fat pan is perfectly safe to clean in the dish washer after removing any excess fat. Cleaning and caring for the grill plate is described in Section 6 above
?

9. Storage
When not in use, wait until the appliance has cooled down and then unscrew the gas cartridge. Store the appliance in the supplied carry bag, as
this will prevent the ingress of dirt or insect that may affect the gas blow. Store the appliance in a cool dry place, preferably off the ground. Always ensure that the appliance has cooled down fully before packing it away in its bag.
10. Spares and Accessories
Always use genuine CADAC spares as they have been designed to give optimum performance.
