2.2 Product Description
The Cable Matters USB 3.0 to HDMI Adapter with Gigabit Ethernet is an easy way to connect a display with HDMI input plus a Gigabit Ethernet network to a computer with USB. Add a monitor to a computer without an HDMI port and connect to a secure wired network with a single adapter.

3. Connection and Operation
3.1 Installation Checklist
DO NOT connect the adapter until after the drivers are installed An HDMI cable is required (sold separately) Use a high quality HDMI cable in the shortest length needed Disconnect any other cables from the computer to the display monitor Close all unnecessary programs before installing the drivers Be prepared to reboot your computer after the driver installation Connect to a USB 3.0 extension cable for more flexibility
3.2 Driver Installation
1) Insert the CD and open the folder for Windows or Mac OS Note: Drivers can be downloaded from cablematters.com/downloads
2) Click on the setup application and follow the instructions
3) Reboot your computer after the installation is complete

3.3 HDMI Connection Instructions
CONNECTING TO A DISPLAY WITH HDMI
1) Install the DisplayLink software drivers
2) Connect the adapter to the computer
3) Connect an HDMI cable to the display and the adapter
4) Configure the video and audio output from the computer
5) Select the video and audio input from the display
3.4 Configuring a display with Windows OS
METHOD 1: Open the DisplayLink utility from the Taskbar notification area in Windows

COMPUTER CONFIGURATION
1) Select a Screen Resolution that is compatible with both your computer and the connected display
2) Set the connected display as Extended or Mirrored
Use the Fit to TV option when connecting to an HDTV
Click and drag on an application window to view it on the connect dis-
play in Extended Mode
CONNECTED DISPLAY CONFIGURATION
1) Select the HDMI input on the connected display
2) Select the audio input from the display audio menu
METHOD 2: Use the Windows Desktop
Video Settings
1) Right-click on the desktop and select Screen resolution
2) Select Duplicate these displays
3) Click on Advanced settings to change the display refresh rate
NOTE: Refer to the user manual of your monitor, TV, or projector for changing the video and audio settings.

Sound Settings
1) Confirm the sound output from the Control Panel > Sound menu
2) Select the connected displays from the Playback tab
3) Adjust the volume from the display
NOTE: Refer to the user manual of your monitor, TV, or projector for changing the video and sound settings. Verify that audio is supported by the display
3.5 Configuring a display with Mac OS
Video Settings
1) Open the Apple Menu
2) Select System Preferences
3) Click the Displays icon
4) Click the Arrangement tab
5) Choose to Mirror or Extend the
display
Sound Settings
1) Open the Apple Menu
2) Select System Preferences
3) Click the Sound icon
4) Click the Output tab
5) Adjust the volume from the display menu

3.6 Connecting to an Ethernet Network
1) Install the DisplayLink software drivers and plug in the adapter
2) Connect an RJ45 cable to the adapter and a network/router port
3) Link and Status LEDs should blink to indicate a connection
4) Check the documentation of your router to configure network access
Troubleshooting Tips
Reboot the computer and the router/cable modem Check that the Link and Status LEDs are lit Turn off all wireless connections Update the USB drivers from the computer manufacturer Test the patch cable with a different device or try another USB port

3.6 Troubleshooting Notes
CABLING
Check that all cable and adapter connections are secure
Test the HDMI cable by connecting it directly with other equipment
Test the adapter with a different computer or port on the computer
COMPUTER SOURCE
Uninstall any older USB graphics software
Check for updated OS, USB, or video graphics card drivers
Try different video resolution settings supported by the display
Verify that the audio from your computer is not muted or extremely low
Reboot the computer after making multiple changes
NOTE: Playback of encrypted Blu-ray disks or iTunes is not supported
CONNECTED DISPLAY
Select the HDMI input from the connected display menu
Select a video resolution setting supported by your computer
Adjust the audio level from the display menu
Consult the display manufacturer technical support for audio and video
setting information
NETWORK
Check that both the green and yellow LEDs are lit
Verify that the adapter is connected to a USB 3.0 port
Check with your network provider for IP configuration information
