E4 Printer Quick-start instruction manual
Step # 1. Loading the Media (Label tape) into the printer.

1. Open the top cover.
2. Place the media roll (4) onto the media spindle (3).
( For media rolls with cores larger than 1-1/2" (40 mm), use the two
core adapters (2) provided )
3. Slide the two media roll guides (1) onto the media spindle, with the
smooth sides facing the media roll.

4. Place the media spindle with the media roll into the media holder
slots (5) in the printer.
( The media must unroll with the adhesive side down)
5. Position the media in the center of the media spindle and slide the media
roll guides (1) up against the media roll.
6. Release the printhead module and swing it up.
7. Feed the media under the media guide shaft (6) and pull the media
forward past the feed roller.
8. Slide the media guides (6) up against the media.

1. Position the media sensor (1) by sliding it left or right until the
sensor is in alignment with the gaps in the label tape (4).
( The sensor can be positioned to detect the gaps along the edges
of the media (A) or in the center of the media (B). )

1. Slide the ink ribbon (2) onto one of the ink ribbon spindles (1) exactly
as shown in Fig (A).
( The "Flat end" of the ink ribbon spindle must be on the left side
the ink ribbon with the shiny side of the ink facing out
in Fig (A). )
2. Install the ink ribbon spindle with the ink ribbon into the ribbon supply
holder (4) in the printer, exactly as shown in Fig (B).
3. Slide the empty ink ribbon core (3) onto the other ink ribbon spindle.

4. Install the ink ribbon spindle with the empty ink ribbon core into the
ribbon rewind holder (5) in the printer, exactly as shown in Fig (D).
5. Pull the ink ribbon around the printhead module and attach the end
of the ink ribbon onto the empty ink ribbon core as shown in Fig (D).
6. Turn the ribbon rewind holder (5) to take up any slack in the ink
ribbon.
7. Close the printhead module by pressing it down until it locks in place.
8. Close the top cover.

Step # 4. Calibrating the media sensor
Calibrating the printer is Required when installing label tape for the first
time or when changing label tape to a different size.
Calibration is Recommended
to maintain correct label alignment.
To Calibrate the printer:
1. Press and hold the CANCEL button until the three indicator lamps
blink, (approximately 4 seconds), then release the button.
2. Press and release the FEED button.
The printer will feed approximately 8 inches, (200 mm), of label tape
and the three lamps will stop blinking and remain lit.
The printer is now calibrated and ready for printing.
