ABOUT THE SOFTWARE PROGRAMS
WINDOW EASY TRANSFER FOR WINDOWS 7,VISTA, AND XP
Windows Easy Transfer (WET) is a program that allows you to transfer your files and program settings from
your old Windows PC to your new Windows PC. You can automatically copy your files, photos, music,
emails, settings, and other files to a new Windows operating system. You can find more information on this
program at Microsoft’s website:
PCLinq3 is a file manager program that allows you to see and control file directories on both PCs at the
same time. You can drag and drop or cut and paste files and folders between PCs. You can also create
new folders and change file attributes. PCLinq3 is designed to be used in addition to the Windows Easy
Transfer program for Windows 7, Vista, and XP, and will also work separately from Windows Easy Transfer
on Windows 2000 operating system using integrated device drivers.
Note: for any combination of Vista and Windows 7 transfers, or XP to Vista/Windows 7, it is not necessary
to install the PCLinq3 software. All other install types need to have both WET and PCLinq3 installed.

USING THE PCLINQ3PROGRAM
The PCLinq3 program allows you to link two PCs by using the USB 2.0 Easy Transfer Cable into the USB
ports of both PCs. Before you can start using the PCLinq3 program, you need to run the setup program
on both PCs and install the cable as described in the previous section. Below is a list of procedures you
can use with PCLinq3 and how the screen appears:
To begin using PCLinq3, please follow the steps below.
Step 1
Plug the USB 2.0 Easy Transfer Cable for Windows in both PCs.
Step 2
Wait for Windows to detect the cable on both PCs and make sure the cable is properly installed (please
refer to Step 8 in the PCLinq3 Software Installation section of the user guide for reference on checking for
proper installation).
Note: After installing the PCLinq3 program for the first time, you have to plug the transfer cable in and
wait for the WET pop-up window before you can open the PCLinq3 program. Click “Cancel” to exit this
window.
Step 3
Go to the Windows Start menu, then ProgramsÆPCLinq3 to access the PCLinq3 programs. It is
important that you use the same program mode for each PC. If you are using ANSI mode for example,
both PCs should be running the ANSI mode program. Check the Status LED on the bottom right of the
program dialog box which indicates if it is ready or not. A green LED indicates a ready status, and a red
LED means that it is not ready or connection was not found. Make sure that the program shows two
green LEDs to verify a linked connection.
33
USING THE PCLINQ3PROGRAM
Note: The Unicode program is only
supported in Windows Vista, XP,
and 2000. The ANSI program is
available for all Windows OS
versions. Use the PCLinq3
Unicode version if both PCs have
Windows 2000 or above versions.
34
USING THE PCLINQ3PROGRAM
Step 4
Once a connection has been established, you simply drag-and-drop the files or folders you want to
transfer to the other PC. You can change disk drives or directories by clicking on the pull-down directory
menu. You can also use the Menu Controls (File, Edit, Command, View, and Help) for other functions of
the program. There is also the Icon Controls for common used commands.
Note: You may not be able to drag-and-drop some folders and files from Vista to XP using your Vista
computer due to Vista Permission security feature. Permissions are rules associated with objects on a
computer or network, such as files and folders. Permissions determine if you can access an object and
what you can do with it. You would need to grant permission or ownership first to those files/folders for you
to be able to transfer them from your Vista to XP computer if needed. Another solution to this problem is to
use your XP computer to drag the files/folders in Vista to XP.
If you need to set file/folders permissions in Windows Vista, the next section will describe that process.
35
GRANTING FILE/FOLDER PERMISSION IN WINDOWS VISTA
Step 1
Right click the file or folder (example: Pictures), and then click Properties.
Step 2
Click the Security tab and click Edit to change permissions.
36
GRANTING FILE/FOLDER PERMISSION IN WINDOWS VISTA
Step 3
Click Add to add a user. Type “Everyone” or some inclusive term for the user name to add to the group.
37
GRANTING FILE/FOLDER PERMISSION IN WINDOWS VISTA
Step 4
Click on the Allow boxes to grant Full control and Modify permissions. Click OK to confirm. You can now
drag-and-drop this folder from Windows Vista or 7 to XP using the PCLinq3 software.
38
UNINSTALLING THE PCLINQ3PROGRAM
If you need to uninstall the PCLinq3 please follow the below process.
Step 1
Make sure to first unplug the USB 2.0 Easy Transfer Cable and make sure the PCLInq3 program is closed.
Step 2
Go to Control Panel and double-click Change or Remove Programs. Look for the PCLinq3 program and
click the Remove button.
39
UNINSTALLING THE PCLINQ3PROGRAM
Step 3
The PCLinq3 InstallShield Wizard program will appear
and let you choose if you want to Modify, Repair, or
Remove installations. Click the Remove button to
remove all installations. Make sure that you have
unplugged the transfer cable and click Next to continue.
Step 4
The PCLinq3 InstallShield Wizard will confirm with you
if you really want to completely remove the application
and features. Click Yes to uninstall.
40
UNINSTALLING THE PCLINQ3PROGRAM
Step 5
Wait for the InstallShield Wizard to complete uninstallation.
Click Finish when uninstall is complete.
