General Information
THI S ALA RM SHOULD ONLY BE USED A S A BACK-UP WAR NI NG. The sound made by this alarm is recognized as a warning for reversing vehicles and equipment and should not be used for any other purpose.
The back up alarm and installation should meet the requirements of SAE J1446 (May 89), “On-Machine Alarm Test & Evaluation Procedure for Construction & General Purpose Industrial Machinery” and all other applicable codes and guidelines. Vehicles that are oper ated in very loud environments may require an alarm which is louder than what is speci­fied in SAE J1446 (May 89). The alarm selected for your vehicle should be louder than the loudest job site at which the vehicle is used. If the audibility of the alarm is in question, the driver of the vehicle should get assistance before backing.

Installation Instructions
The back-up alarm should be mounted about 48” from the ground with the sound opening facing the rear of the vehicle. Do not mount the alarm with the sound opening facing up or down. The back-up alarm should be connected to a fused back-up lamp circuit or a sepa rate fused “back-up” switched circuit.
1. Find a mounting position near the rear of the vehicle that will keep the back-up alarm protected from debris impact, and adverse weather conditions while maintaining an clear sound path towards the rear of the vehicle.

2. Hold the alarm in the selected position and mark position of the holes in the alarm’s housing. Drill holes at location marks. NOTE: Exercise caution not to drill where damage could occur.
3. Fasten alarm to vehicle.
4. Wire the alarm as instructed in the wiring diagram. The wires should be at least 18
gauge in size. Make sure proper polarity is maintained when wiring. NOTE: The back-up alarm will not operate when its power connections are reversed. The back-up alarm needs a dependable ground in order to work properly. Make sure a solid ground connection to the vehicle’s frame is achieved. Carefully route the wires to protect them from damage.
5. Verify that the back-up alarm works properly. If the alarm does not work properly, review step 4 for any errors.
6. Attach the Warning Label provided to a clean surface, where it will be visible to the operator.
Important! DO NOT spray any coating over the sound openings of the back-up alarm i.e. pant, undercoating, etc. DO NOT install the alarm or its wires close to any ignition wires. DO NOT wire in parallel with a relay or solenoid coil. All of these conditions may cause your alarm to operate poorly.
WARRANTY
Buyers Products Co. warrants this product to be free from defects in material and work
­manship for a period of two years from date of manufacture. Parts must be properly installed and used under normal conditions. Any product which has been altered, including modification, misuse, accident or lack of maintenance will not be considered under war­ranty. Normal wear is excluded. The sole responsibility of Buyers Products Co. under this warranty is limited to repairing or replacing any part or parts which are returned, prepaid, and are found to be defective by Buyers Products Co. Authorization from Buyers Products Co. must be obtained before returning any part. No charges for transportation or labor per­formed on Buyers’ products will be allowed under this warranty.
