BUSlink USB Portable Hard Drive
Congratulations for having purchased you new BUSlink USB Portable Hard Drive. Along with your BUSlink USB Portable Hard Drive comes several items that you need to check inside the box. These items are:

Windows 98
1. Insert your BUSlink Hard Drive diskette and run setup.exe (Start, Run, a:/setup.exe)
2. After reading welcome screen Click NEXT, then on the next screen click FINISH.
3. Unpack the BUSlink USB Portable Hard Drive and accessories. Plug in the power adapter in the
BUSlink USB Portable Hard Drive.
4. Connect the BUSlink USB Portable Hard Drive to the USB port on your computer. (Insert the
USB cable in the USB hard drive and the USB port on the computer.)
5. Turn On your USB Hard Drive. (Switch on the back of the drive) drivers will automatically
install.
6. Double click on My Computer Icon, and click on the Removable Disk (the BUSlink USB Hard
Drive, Usually D or E) and follow the format instructions.
Your USB Portable Hard Drive now has a drive letter assigned (Usually D or E) and is now ready to use.

How to Backup to the BUSlink USB Portable Hard Drive
You can start Backup by clicking Start, pointing to Programs, pointing to Accessories, pointing
to System Tools, and then clicking Backup. For information about how to use Backup, click the Help menu in Backup;
If you do not see Backup on the Accessories menu, it is not installed. To find out how to install it,
see Related Topics below.
To add or remove a Windows component (Windows Backup Program)
1. Click on Start, pointing to Settings, clicking Control Panel, double-clicking Add/Remove
-----Programs, and then clicking the Windows Setup tab.
2. Under Components, click the component you want to add or remove.
To add all parts of the component, select its check box.
To remove all parts of the component, click to clear its check box.
To add or remove some parts of the component, click Details, and then click to select or clear
check boxes for those parts.
Notes
If you used a compact disc to install Windows, you will be prompted to insert it into your
computer.
Basic Troubleshooting
If you are experiencing difficulty installing the BUSlink USB Portable Hard Drive.
1. Check if the USB Port is Enabled. Make sure that the USB port is enabled inside the System CMOS
BIOS. Run the BIOS Setup program of your computer to verify if the USB port is enabled. Check the user manual of your computer for more information on how to run the BIOS Setup program.
2. Check if your USB controller has been properly configured under windows.
3. Start Windows 95 or 98. Click Start, Settings, Control panel, and System.
4. Click Device Manager, and check if there is the Universal serial bus controller device. Double click the
device and click if the device is working properly.
5. If the Universal serial bus controller device is not present in the System Properties, then you might
need to install USB Supplement driver for Windows 95 OSR2. The file USBSUPP.EXE is included inside the Windows 95 OSR2.1 installation CD. For Windows 98, you do not need to install this supplement program, as this is included inside Windows 98 and will be automatically installed when detected. Run Add New Hardware wizard from Windows 98 Control Panel.
The BUSlink USB Portable Hard Drive is not assigned a driven letter under window 98 or the software does not appear.
A. Check all connections. B. Make sure the drive is receiving power. C. Use the USB cable that came with your BUSlink USB Portable Hard Drive. D. Make sure the BUSlink USB Portable Hard Drive software is installed. E. Try reinstalling the BUSlink USB Portable Hard Drive software by removing from the Add/Remove
programs in control panel then reinstall the BUSlink USB Portable Hard Drive software.
F. If you are connected to a USB hub, ensure the hub is connected correctly ad has power.

BUSlink USB Portable Hard Drive performance seems slow
Other USB devices connected at the same time as the BUSlink USB Portable Hard Drive can affect the drives performance, especially digital cameras or scanners that are processing large amounts of data.
If you are using a hub to connect several devices to your computer disconnect the other devices and connect the BUSlink USB Portable Hard Drive directly to either of the computers USB ports.

BUSlink's warranty obligations are limited to the terms set forth below: BUSlink warrants to the original consumer purchaser that new BUSlink disk drives will be free from defects in material and workmanship for the Standard Warranty Period. The start of the warranty period is the date of purchase. For replacement USB Portable Hard Drive the warranty on the replacement drive is the remainder of the warranty on the original drive or 90 days, whichever is longer.
If the customer discovers a defect, BUSlink will, at its option, repair or replace the disk drive at no charge to the customer, provided it is returned during the warranty period, with transportation charges prepaid, to BUSlink. Drives must be properly packaged in BUSlink packaging or BUSlink approved packaging to obtain warranty service. For warranty service, contact BUSlink at 626.336.1888 (IN USA) to obtain a "Return Material Authorization (RMA) number." A copy of the receipt or a bill of sale bearing the appropriate BUSlink serial number or model number may be required for warranty service. Warranty Exclusions;
Normal wear and tear
Abuse, unreasonable use, mistreatment, or neglect
Damage caused by the equipment or system with which the disk drive is used
Damage caused by modification or repair not made or authorized by BUSlink
Disk drives whose BUSlink Serial Number has been removed or defaced
Damage caused by use of non-BUSlink packaging
Damage caused by improper or improperly used packaging
Drives that are determined to be stolen.
