BusinessObjects Data Insight XI 3.0 Installation Guide for Windows
Chapter 1:
Introduction
This chapter describes the primary components of the Data Insight software,
provides hardware and software requirement s an d d ata ba se servers, and provides
an overview of the installation process.
Chapter 1: Introduction
9
Get started
As with any multi-tiered application, Data Insight depends on multiple layers of
additional software supplied by other vendors. To make sure that you have all of
the necessary components and that they are properly configured, see the
appropriate relational database setup instructions in this document.
Data Insight
components
The Data Insight application consists of the following components:
Metadata Repository
Data Insight engine
Data Insight graphical user interface (GUI)
Report exporting engine
The following illustration shows the communication paths between each of the
Data Insight components and the Data Quality Server.
Metadata RepositoryThe Metadata Repository contains information required by the engine, GUI, and
report exporting engine to operate. The source data is the data that you will
analyze with the Data Insight applicatio n, and the optiona l Data Quali ty Serv er is
the application that powers all of the data processing done by Data Quality.
Connectivity between the Data Insight components is achieved via the OLEDB
drivers, and in the case of the UNIX engine, the ODBC drivers. The OLEDB
drivers are supplied by the RDB MS when the client software packages are
installed on the client machine. When these are not available, use the generic
10
BusinessObjects Data Insight XI 3.0 Installation Guide for Windows
OLEDB drivers supplied in MS Windows. The UNIX ODBC drivers are supplied
on the Data Insight engine installation location.
Data Insight engine and
GUI
The GUI and engine do not communicate directly with each other, but rather via
the Metadata Repository. When a user performs an action in the GUI (for
example, creating, saving, or running a task), the GUI updates the Metadata
Repository with the task settings and begins pinging the Metadata Rep osi to ry for
results. The engine, which is continuously polling the Metadata Repository for
new tasks, selects the task for execution.
When the engine finishes executing the task, it updates the Metad ata Repository
with the results. When the results become available, the GUI displays them to the
user.
Source data connectionsIn reference to the source data connections, both the engine and the GUI access
the source data. The GUI accesses the source data to retrieve the metadata, which
is displayed to the user; whereas the engine accesses the source data to execute
the tasks or queries against it.
Report exporting engineThe report exporting engine accesses the Metadata Repository to export reports
and results data for scheduled tasks. For example, when you schedule tasks to run
overnight, you can choose to export reports and/or results data for those tasks to a
central location.
Data Quality ServerThe Data Insight engine can communicate with the Data Quality Server to
execute a task. The Data Quality Server accesses the Metadata Repository to
create results data for address validation.
Chapter 1: Introduction
11
Data Insight software requirements and database servers
The Data Insight software consists of the Data Insight engine, report exporting
engine, Data Insight GUI, and the Metadata Repository.
Data Insight is intensively computational, so we recommend high-quality
hardware. A fast processor will make a noticeable difference, both within Data
Insight and throughout the Windows operating environment.
You can install the engine, report exporting engine, and the GUI on the same
Microsoft Windows machine or on different Microsoft Windows machines. For
UNIX systems, you must install the engine on UNIX, and the GUI and report
exporting engine on Microsoft Windows. You will create the Metadata
Repository on a database server.
If you plan to use the e-mail notifi cation feature, you will need to define an e-mail
account to the computer where you have installed the Data Insight engine. For
more information, see “Configure the system for e-mail notification” on page 57.
Before starting the engine, review the section about configuration settings in the
BusinessObjects Data Insight XI 3.0 Optimization and Administration Guide.
You should update your iqi.ini file based on your environment.
Hardware and
software
requirements for
Windows
The following list shows the minimum hardware and software requirements for
running Data Insight on Microsoft Windows:
IBM-compatible client computer with a Pentium IV series processor, 800
MHz or faster
Microsoft Internet Explorer, versio n 5. 5, SP2 or late r
Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) Version 2.7 (which is included
with the Data Insight installation), or later.
If you update the MDAC version after you install the Data Insight
application, refresh the Data Insight application. For more information,
see “Refresh your installation” on page 64.
Crystal Reports 9 (included with the Data Insight installation)
During the upgrade or install process, you are prompted to remove the
following pre-Crystal 9 files from the Windows system path, if they exist.
You can allow the install process to remove them, or you can remove them
manually later.
Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) activation
Client Access Express for DB2 on AS/400 connectivity

Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, SP4; Microsoft Windows 2003, SP1;
or Microsoft Windows XP Professional, SP1 or SP2
BusinessObjects Data Insight XI 3.0 Installation Guide for Windows
To connect to and analyze flat files on open systems, Data Insight requ ir es
NFS connectivity that provides the capability of accessing UNIX files as if
they reside on the local PC.
To view the data in the user interface, install the Arial Un icode font from the
Microsoft installation CD. Otherwise, the data may appear distorted.
RAM
512 MB of RAM for the GUI
512 MB of RAM for the engine. If less is available, set the
MaximumMemoryUsage property in the iqi.ini file appropriately (the
default is 256 MB). For more information, see the BusinessObjects Data
Insight XI 3.0 Optimization and Administration Guide.
512 MB of RAM is recommended if the engine and GUI are installed on
the same machine.

Install the software
These are the high-level steps that you must follow to install the Data Insight
application.
1.Install BusinessObjects Data Services XI 3.0 or Data Quality XI (if
2.Install the directories (optional).
3.Complete the pre-installation steps for your Metadata Repository.
4.Install the Data Insight Metadata Repository.
5.Install the Data Insight engine and GUI.
applicable).
Data Quality
limitations
Step 1: Install Data
Quality
Consider the following Data Quality limitations:
If you are using Windows Authentication for security purposes, the login ID
of the Data Quality Server must have access (read/write permissions) to the
SQL Server Metadata Repository.
If you are running Data Quality on a non-Windows platform and you plan to
perform truth data queries, we recommend that you use a Data Insight
Metadata Repository on Oracle.
If Data Quality is on a non-Microsoft Windows platform and the Metadata
Repository is on Oracle, the version of the Oracle client that is installed on
that server must be Oracle9i or Oracle10g.
The user starting Data Insight on UNIX must have read and write
permissions to Data Quality repository path .
If the Data Insight software is installed on UNIX, we recommend that you do
not install Data Quality on Microsoft Windows.
The Data Insight engine must be able to establish a connection to the Data
Quality paths.
If you own Data Quality licensed software, the first step of the installation
process is to install the necessary components for Data Quality, which will allow
you to perform truth data queries. For details about insta lling Data Quality, see
the BusinessObjects Data Quality XI System Administrator’s Guide or the Data Services Gettting Started Guide. Note that you can install the Data Insight
software without installing Data Quality.
Step 2: Install the
directories
If you own and have installed Data Quality licensed software, the next step is to
install the directories. Some of Data Insight’s address validation features, as well
as the Data Quality address cleansing features, re ly on sets of address data. These
data sets are called directories. Much like a phone book is a directory of names
and phone numbers, address directories are sets of address-related data. For
details about installing the directories, see the BusinessObjects Data Quality XI System Administrator’s Guide or the Data Services Gettting Started Guide.
Chapter 1: Introduction
15
Step 3: Complete the
Metadata Repository
pre-installation
checklist
It is important that you verify everything in the pre-installation checklist for the
respective Metadata Repository. The Data Insight Metadata Repository is the set
of tables that Data Insight uses to perform and to store the analysis of your data.
Choose from the following set of pre-installation tasks appropriate for your
Metadata Repository.

Step 5: Install the
Data Insight engine
and GUI
DB2
“Pre-installation checklist for DB2 Metadata Repository” on
page 42
After you have made the necessary preparations, yo u must install the Data Insi ght
Metadata Repository; we recommend that your database administrator install it.
You only install the Metadata Repository the first time that you install Data
Insight. If you are upgrading, see “Upgrade the software” on page 63.
Depending on the type of database you use, choose from the following.
DatabaseSee
Oracle“Install the Metadata Repository for Oracle” on page 24
SQL Server“Install the Metadata Repository for Microsoft SQL Server” on page 35
DB2“Install the Metadata Repository for DB2” on page 45
You need to install the remaining two Data Insight components: the Data Insight
engine and GUI. The engine can work with Data Quality to provide power for
truth data query processing. You use the GUI application to set up your Data
Insight processing.
16
You can install the engine, report exporting engine, and the GUI using one of the
following options:
Install the engine (includes the report exporting engine) and GUI on the same
Microsoft Windows workstation.
Install the engine (includes the report exportin g eng ine) an d GUI on separate
Microsoft Windows workstations.
Install the engine on a UNIX workstation, and the GUI and report
exporting engine on a Microsoft Windows workstation(s).
You can run multiple GUIs from different workstations against the same
Metadata Repository. However, you can only run one engine and one report
exporting engine against that Metadata Repository; these engines will service
all of the GUI instances running against that Metadata Repository.
BusinessObjects Data Insight XI 3.0 Installation Guide for Windows
You only own a certain number of Data Insight clients. To determine if you
are in compliance with your license, you can run a database script. See the
BusinessObjects Data Insight XI 3.0 Optimization and Administration
Guide.

Chapter 2:
Install for Oracle Metadata Repository
This chapter provides information about installing the Metadata Repository, the
engine, and the graphical user interface (GUI) for an Oracle Metadata Repository.
Chapter 2: Install for Oracle Metadata Repository
19
Pre-installation checklist for Oracle Metadata Repository
Before installing the Metadata Repository, the engine, and the GUI, read the
following steps to ensure proper in stallation of the Data Insight applic ation and
its components. If you have questions about the pre-installati on process, consult
with your database administrator (DBA).
Step 1: Choose a
database
Decide which database on which to install the Metadata Repository. We
recommend that your DBA install the Metadata Repository.
You will need the net service name where you store the Metadata Repository. Y ou
can obtain this information from the Oracle tnsnames.ora file located at
ORACLE_HOME\network\admin, or from your database administrator.
Because Data Insight stores the results of the data analysis on the Metadata
Repository, the database may rapidly increase in size, especially if analyzing
large databases. To get optimum use of the software:
If you assess data on more than one type of database, ensure that the database
on which the Metadata Repository is installed does not have a lesser
character set than the assessed source databases.
Consider the intended use of the product.
Consider the size of the database(s) that you will analyze.
Monitor the Oracle database that contains the Metadata Repository to
determine the necessary maintenance (analyzing, rebuilding indexes,
expanding tablespace, and so on).
You may decide to analyze various dat a sources, including databases of
different vendors. If so, consider if you will need to return data extracts from
the source data.
If the source data and Metadata Repository are not of the same vendor (for
example, Oracle), Data Insight may not return certain values. It may also
omit large object data types when copying data from source data to the
Oracle Metadata Repository.
Table specificationsThe following table lists the Oracle table specifications.
Attribute Maximum
Row size 2,000,000 bytes
Number of columns per table1000
Number of characters in a column name30
Step 2: Choose an
owner
A user or schema (referred to as the Metadata Repository owner) will be used to
create the Metadata Repository. Using Oracle Enterprise Manager Console,
expand the database until you can acc ess Security > Users to access the user level
information.
If an existing user will not be used for the Metadata Repository owner, then create
a new Oracle user (for example, DI_OWNER), for the Metadata Repo sitory
owner.
20
BusinessObjects Data Insight XI 3.0 Installation Guide for Windows
When you create an owner for the Metadata Repository, the initial character
!
of the user must be an alphabetic character (for example, DI_OWNER). The
initial character cannot be a symbol or numeral.
The Metadata Repository owner user will require the following:
TABLESPACE. Assign the schema a default tablespace of at least 300 MB
free space. For cross-Oracle database querying, Data Insight requires
temporary tablespace of at least 200 MB, which also needs to be assigned to
the schema as a default temporary tablespace. We recommend that the
Metadata Repository user has unlimited tablespace settings on its default
tablespaces.
From the Security > Users > ROLE tab, grant the
SELECT_CATALOG_ROLE on the Metadata Repository to MDR owner
user.
From the Security > Users > System Privileges tab, grant the following
system privileges to the Metadata Repository owner user. Not all of these
privileges may appear in this tab; select the ones that do.
Observe these notes about the following system privileges.
Select any table: This system privilege is needed if the repository and
profiling data sources are colocated. Instead of using Select any table, you
may grant select privileges to the specific tables that need to be profiled.
Unlimited tablespace: Instead of granting Unlimited tablespace, you may
allocate the large default tablespace (several gigabytes) for the repository
owner. You may monitor the tablespace utilization to make sure the space
allocation is sufficient.
Apply all changes.
This Oracle user will be used for the owner (Account) and username (with the
password) prompts during the Data Insight installation interview, and as the
SCHEMA name when running the metadata create script.
Chapter 2: Install for Oracle Metadata Repository
21
Step 3: Gather
information needed to
run the create script
Verify that the person running the Data Insight create script has the following
rights and information:
The database name where the Metadata Repository is installed (see step 1).
The following Oracle Metadata Repository interview information (see step
2).
The Metadata Repository owner username and password with the correct
privileges to connect to the database (see step 2).
SCHEMA name. This is the Oracle user account for the Data Insight
owner, DI_OWNER.
TABLESPACE name. To determine the TABLESPACE name, run the
following statement in SQL*Plus. Substitute the ? with the capitalized
SCHEMA name of the Data Insight Metadata Repository.
SELECT DEFAULT_TABLESPACE FROM USER_USERS WHERE
USERNAME=’?’;
INDEX_TABLESPACE name. You can use the same TABLESPACE
name for the INDEX_TABLESPACE, or you can execute the following
statement in SQL*Plus substituting the ? with the capitalized SCHEMA
name.
Step 4: Gather
information needed
for installation
SELECT TABLESPACE_NAME FROM USER_INDEXES WHERE
TABLE_OWNER=’?’;
Verify that the person installing the engine and/or GUI has the following rights
and interview information:
The following Oracle Metadata Repository interview information:
Net service name from the tnsnames.ora file.
Metadata Repository Owner (DI_OWNER) and password (see step 2).
Windows administrative privileges on the workstation(s) where the engine
and/or GUI are to be installed.
Ensure that the Oracle client is properly installed on each workstation that
will have the Data Insight engine and/or GUI installed. If you experience
problems during the installation, see “Tuning and troubleshooting” on
page 65.
If you install the engine and GUI on different workstations, ensure that
the entries for the server where the Metadata Repository tables reside are
identical in the tnsnames.ora file on each workstation. You can find the
tnsnames.ora file at ORACLE_HOME\network\admin (copy and
paste the file to each workstation if necessary)
.
Use an Oracle utility, such as SQL*Plus, to test the desktop-to-database
connectivity on each of the workstations using the users’ Oracle user and
password, and the database (see steps 1, 2, and 3).
22
If you have a licensed version of Data Quality and you plan to perform trut h
data queries, you will need the following information and files:
Data Quality Server IP address
BusinessObjects Data Insight XI 3.0 Installation Guide for Windows
The checklist is
complete
Location of the bootstrap file
Data Quality Oracle client version
If you have a licensed version of Da ta Serv ices and you pl an to p erform truth
data queries, you will need the following information and files:
Access Server IP address
Access Server Port number
Web service URL
System configuration
The system configuration identifies the Data Insight repository. If you have
multiple repositories, you will use multiple system configurations. The default
configurations include the following.
Repository typeSystem configuration name
OracleSC_IQI_ORA
DB2SC_IQI_DB2
MS SQLSC_IQI_MSSQL
This completes the steps of the checklist. If you were unable to complete
!
any of these steps, or if you need additional information about this preinstallation checklist, contact your database administrator.

Install the Metadata Repository for Oracle
Prior to running the Oracle create script for Data Insight, be sure that y ou have all
of the checklist items from “Step 3: Gather information needed to run the create
script” on page 22. Y ou will n ot be able to acc urately run the c reate script with out
all of the checklist items.
Install the Metadata
Repository
Perform the following steps to install the Metadata Repository on Oracle:
Y ou will only install the M etadata Repository the first t ime that you install the
Data Insight software. If you are upgrading your software, see “Upgrade/
Reconfigure the software” on page 51.
1.Start SQL*Plus by using the Data Insight Metadata Repository account
owner’s login information.
2.Go to the location of the installation package at https://
businessobjects.subscribenet.com/ and then enter your login ID and
password.
3.In SQL*Plus, execute the script by entering:
@“x:\metadatarepository\oracle\iqi_cre_ora.sql”; (where x is the location
of the installer package or media).
The script requires the entry of the SCHEMA, TABLESPACE and
INDEX_TABLESPACE (see “Step 3: Gather information needed to run the
create script” on page 22).
The first portion of the create script drops all existing Data Insight tables. If
this is the first time that the script is run, it will display a message that the
table is not found. This is a normal function of the application.
If you are profiling Unicode data, you must also run the Unicode alter script,
iqi_alter_ora_unicode.sql (the Oracle script requests SCHEMA).

Chapter 3:
Install for Microsoft SQL Server Metadata
Repository
This chapter provides information about installing the Metadata Repository, the
engine, and the graphical user interface (GUI) for a Microsoft SQL Server
Metadata Repository.
Chapter 3: Install for Microsoft SQL Server Metadata Repository
31
Pre-installation checklist for Microsoft SQL Server Metadata
Repository
Before installing the Metadata Repository, the engine, and the GUI, read the
following steps. This will help to ensure proper installation of the Data Insight
application and its components. If you have questions about the pre-installation
process, consult with your database administrator (DBA).
Step 1: Choose a
database
Decide which database on which to install the Metadata Repository. We
recommend that your DBA install the Metadata Repository.
Because Data Insight stores the results of the data analysis on the Metadata
Repository, the database may rapidly increase in size, especially if analyzing
large databases. To get optimum use of the software:
Consider the intended use of the product.
Consider the size of the database(s) that you will analyze.
Monitor the Microsoft SQL Server database that contains the Metadata
Repository to determine the necessary maintenance (compressing data files,
rebuilding indexes, and so on).
You may decide to analyze various dat a sources, including databases of
different vendors. If so, consider if you will need to return data extracts from
the source data.
If the source data and Metadata Repository are not of the same vendor (for
example, Microsoft SQL Server), Data Insight may no t re turn ce rtain val ues.
It may also omit large object data types when copying data f rom source data
to the Microsoft SQL Server Metadata Repository.
For security purposes, assign a dedicated ID to the Metadata Repository tables.
Or, create the Metadata Repository tables on a database where the create tables
privilege does not create a security issue.
Table specificationsThe following table lists the Microsoft SQL Server table and database
specifications. Microsoft SQL Server determines the number of rows per table
and the number of tables per database by the amount of available data stored in
the table.
Attribute Maximum
Row size8,060 bytes
Maximum number of columns per table1,024
Database size1,048,516 TB
Number of characters in a column name128
Step 2: Choose an
owner
A user (referred to as the Metadata Repository owner) will be used to create the
Metadata Repository.
The script to create the Metadata Repository tables does not specify the object’s
owner. Rather, the software assigns an owner based on the user ID of the person
running the script. If you are using Windows Authentication, that user ID is
32
BusinessObjects Data Insight XI 3.0 Installation Guide for Windows
defined as the Windows login. If you are using SQL Server Authentication, that
user is defined as the SQL Server login. If user is defined as administrator on a
database, all tables will be assigned a dbo owner.
Choose MS SQL Server > Enterprise Manager to expand the SQL Server Group
and to access the Microsoft SQL Servers.
If an existing user will not be used for the Metadata Repository owner, create a
new SQL Server user (for example, DI_OWNER), for the Metadata Repository
owner under Security > Logins.
The Metadata Repository owner will need the following:
From Users > MDR owner login > Properties select the following options:
db_datareader
db_datawriter
public
From the database name level of the tree, right-click the Metada ta Repository
to access properties > Permissions to check the following options:
Create Table
Create V iew
If you will be analyzing source data that resides on the same SQL Server database
as the Metadata Repository (for example, the same database but a different
catalog), ensure that the Metadata Repository owner has access to all source
catalogs on SQL Server.
Step 3: Gather
information needed to
run the create script
Step 4: Gather
information needed
for installation
This SQL Server user will be used for the owner (Account) and username (with
password) for the SQL Server Authentication prompts du ring the Data Insight
installation interview.
For SQL Server, the user needs to be the same as the owner. The only
exception is for sa as the user and dbo as the owner.
Verify that the person running the Data Insight create script has the following
rights and information:
The SQL Server and database names where the Metadata Repository is
installed (see step 1).
The Metadata Repository owner username and password with the correct
privileges to connect to the database (see step 2).
Verify that the person who will install the engine and/or GUI has the following
rights and interview information:
The following SQL Server Metadata Repository interview information:
SQL Server name (see step 1).
SQL Server Metadata Repository database name (see step 1).
The Metadata Repository owner username and password with the correct
privileges to connect to the database (see step 2).

Windows administrative privileges on the workstation(s) where the engine
and/or GUI are to be installed.
Ensure that the SQL Client is properly installed on each workstati on that will
have the Data Insight engine and/or GUI installed. If you experience
problems during the installation, see “Tuning and troubleshooting” on
page 65.
If you install the engine and GUI on different workstations, ensure that
the entries for the server where the Metadata Repository tables reside are
identical during the Data Insight installat ion inte rview.
Use an MS SQL utility, such as Query Analyzer, to test the desktop-todesktop connectivity on each of the workstations. Use th e W indows user’ s
username and password or MS SQL Authentication for the Metadata
Repository owner (DI_OWNER) and the database (see steps 1 and 2).
If you have a licensed version of Data Quality and you plan to perform trut h
data queries, you will need the following information and files:
Data Quality Server IP address
Location of the bootstrap file
Data Quality Oracle client version
If you have a licensed version of Data Se rvices a nd you plan to p erform truth

Chapter 4:
Install for DB2 Metadata Repository
This chapter provides information about installing the Metadata Repository, the
engine, and the graphical user interface (GUI) for a DB2 Metadata Repository .
Chapter 4: Install for DB2 Metadata Repository
41
Pre-installation checklist for DB2 Metadata Repository
Before installing the Metadata Repository, the engine, and the GUI, read the
following steps. This will help to ensure proper installation of the Data Insight
application and its components. If you have questions about the pre-installation
process, consult with your database administrator (DBA).
Step 1: Choose a
database
Decide which database on which to install the Metadata Repository. We
recommend that your DBA install the Metadata Repository.
You will need the DB2 server alias where you store the Metadata Repository. You
can obtain this information from your database administrator.
Because Data Insight stores the results of the data analysis on the Metadata
Repository, the database may rapidly increase in size, especially if analyzing
large databases. To get optimum use of the software:
Consider the intended use of the product.
Consider the size of the database(s) that you will analyze.
Ensure that the User Temporary Tablespace or its equivalen t i s allocated on
the database where the Metadata Repository will be installed. Also ensure
that the Data Insight Metadata Repository owner has privileges on this
Tablespace. For more information, see the DB2 Administration Guide.
Monitor the DB2 database that contains the Metadata Repository to
determine the necessary maintenance (rebuilding indexes, expanding table
space, and so on).
You may decide to analyze various dat a sources, including databases of
different vendors. If so, consider if you will need to return data extracts from
the source data.
If the source data and Metadata Repository are not of the same vendor (for
example, DB2), Data Insight may not return certain va lues. It may also omit larg e
object data types when copying data from source data to the DB2 Metadata
Repository.
Table specificationsThe following table lists the DB2 table and database specifications.
Attribute Maximum
Row size4,056 bytes on 4 KB pages
8,138 bytes on 8 KB pages
16,330 bytes on 16 KB pages
32,714 bytes on 32 KB pages
Number of columns per table750
Number of characters in a column name18
Step 2: Choose an
owner
A user or schema (referred to as the Metadata Repository owner) will be used to
create the Metadata Repository.
42
BusinessObjects Data Insight XI 3.0 Installation Guide for Windows
The script to create the Metadata Repository tables does not specify the object’s
owner. Rather, the software assigns an owner based on the user ID of the person
running the script. For example, when you connect to a database using DB2
Client Software, you will be prompted to enter a user ID and password. This user
ID connects you to a database.
Choose DB2 > Control Center, and expand the Instances to access the DB2
database.
If an existing login will not be used for the Metadata Repository owner, create a
new DB User login (for example, DI_OWNER), for the Metadata Repository
owner under User and Group Objects > DB User.
When creating an owner for the Metadata Repository, the initial character of
!
the user must be an alphabetic character (for example, DI_OWNER) . The
initial character cannot be a symbol or numeral.
The Metadata Repository owner will require the following:
From DB User > MDR owner login > Database tab, select the following
options:
Connect database
Create tables
Step 3: Gather
information needed to
run the create script
Step 4: Gather
information needed
for installation
If you will be analyzing source data th at resides o n the same D B2 da tabase as the
Metadata Repository (for exampl e, the same database but a different instance),
ensure that the Metadata Repository owner has access to all source instances on
DB2 Server.
This DB2 user will be used for the owner (Account) and username (wit h
password) prompts during the Data Insight installation interview.
Verify that the person running the Data Insight create script has the following
rights and information:
DB2 Server alias and database name where the Metadata Repository will be
installed (see step 1).
The Metadata Repository Owner username and password with the correct
privileges to connect to the database (see step 2).
Verify that the person installing the engine and/or GUI has the following rights
and interview information:
The following DB2 Server Metadata Repository interview information:
DB2 Server alias (see step 1).
DB2 Server Metadata Repository database name (see step 1).
The Metadata Repository Owner username and password with the
correct privileges to connect to the database (see step 2).
Windows administrative privileges on the workstation(s) where the engine
and/or GUI are to be installed.
Chapter 4: Install for DB2 Metadata Repository
43
Ensure that the DB2 Client is properly instal led on each workstation that will
have the Data Insight engine and/or GUI installed. If you experience
problems during the installation see “Tuning and troubleshoot ing” on
page 65.
If you install the engine and GUI on different workstations, ensure that
the entries for the server where the Metadata Repository tables reside are
identical during the Data Insight installat ion interview.
Use a DB2 utility, such as Control Center, to test the desktop-to-desktop
connectivity on each of the workstations using the user’s DB2 username
and password (see steps 1 and 2).
If you have a licensed version of Data Quality and you plan to perform trut h

Create reference data tables
Data Insight provides the SQL scripts necessary to create tables containing U.S.
states, Canadian provinces, countries, U.S. counties, and internet domains. After
the tables are created, you can use them as reference tables in a reference column
query. For example, you may want to compare a column in your data called
US_STATES to the data in the reference table IQI_REF_STATES to verify that
your data contains only valid U.S. states.
Depending on how you want to analyze your data, you can create the reference
tables on any Oracle, SQL Server, or DB2 database. The tables can also be
created in your Metadata Repository. To run the SQL script, the userid must have
the create table privilege.
1.Start SQL*Plus with an account that has create table privileges.
2.Go to the location of the installation package at https://
businessobjects.subscribenet.com/ and then enter your login ID and
password.
3.In SQL*Plus, execute the script by entering @“x:\metadatarepository\

or media). The script will require the entry of the SCHEMA, TABLESPACE
and INDEX_TABLESPACE. For more information, see “Step 3: Gather
information needed to run the create script” on page 33.
To create reference column queries using the reference tables as criteria, you
will need to establish a connection in your Data Insight project to the
database where you created the reference tables.

Using the timestamp
option in iqi.ini
When profiling SQL Server data using an Oracle Metadata Reposito ry , verify th at
the SQL Server table names do not contain quotes (for example: ‘Results$’). If
any of them do, use SQL Server Enterprise Manager to rename the table (for
example: Results$).
If you are unable to connect to a data source or start the engi ne or GUI, verify that
the data source exists and that the data source name is correct.
When trying to connect to the Oracle data source outside of Data Insight,
ensure that the data source is included in the tnsnames.ora file. Use Net 8 (or
Net for Oracle 9) Configuration Assistant to properly set up this file.
When trying to start the engine or GUI, you may receive the error message:
“TNS:listener could not resolve SERVICE_NAME given in connect
descriptor.” If you do, verify that the service name in the tnsnames.ora file
matches the data source name in the iqi.ini file for the GUI and engine.
If you want to profile tables and return timestamp data, then you must enter an
Oracle ODBC driver in the OracleDriverInformation option. By default, this
option is left blank. When you enter a value, you will use this driver for all of
your repository and Oracle source connections. The timestamp op tion is for the
Windows engine only. See the ODBC driver you should install below:

In order to get the patch, you must have a MetaLink account and a valid
Support Identifier.
3.Download and install the ODBC driver if your driver version is older than th e
version listed above.
4.Reboot the machine and restart the Data Insight engine.
To find th e value to include in the OracleDriverInformation option:
1.Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Data
Source (ODBC).
2.Select the Drivers tab. Look for something similar to: Oracle in
OracleHome.
3.Enter the value, including the double-quotes in the iqi.ini file in the
OracleDriverInformation option. For example, your entry may look like the
following:
[OracleTimestamp]
OracleDriverInformation=“Oracle in OraClient10g_home1”
Unable to initialize
provider
Sybase-related issues
If the Sybase driver is not
listed in the Data Link
Properties window when
adding a connection
The ODBC driver only supports the timestamp fields. It does not support
timestamp with timezone or timestamp with local timezone fields.
When trying to start the Windows engine or GUI, you may receive the error
message: “Unable to initialize provider.” If you do, verify that the following
properties for the Microsoft registry in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSDTC\MTxOCI] are properly set.
If you are adding a Sybase connection to your Data Insight project, the Sybase
driver may not be listed in the Data Link Properties window. If so, the Sybase
client may have been installed using the Typical setup type rather than the
Custom setup type. The driver is not installed with the Typical setup type.
66
The following is only a partial list of the Sybase installation instructions.
To install the Sybase client with the required driver:
BusinessObjects Data Insight XI 3.0 Installation Guide for Windows
1.When you are prompted for the setup options, choose the Custom setup type,
and then click Next to continue.
2.When the following window appears, choose the feat ures as sh own, an d then
click Next to continue.
Data source set up when
Data Insight is installed
on different workstations
Ensure that the Sybase client is properly installed on each workstation that will
have the Data Insight engine and/or GUI installed. If you install the engine and
GUI on different workstations, the Sybase client installation requires that:
Use Sybase Configuration Manager to configure a data source for the
database that is being profiled on the engine’s machine.
The engine and GUI data source names match. Using Sybase Configuration
Manager, look in the Data Sources folder to verify that data source names
match.
General issuesThe following tuning and troubleshooting information is general to all databases.
If the Metadata
Repository was not
updated
If the Metadata Repository is not the current version, Data Insight will attempt to
update the Metadata Repository . After you click Upgrade To..., you will receive a
warning message if Data Insight did not update your Metadata Repository. Data
Appendix E: Tuning and troubleshooting
67
Insight generates the warning message for various reasons, such as if the access to
the Metadata Repository is denied or unavailable.
If Data Insight generates a version-related error on startup, cont act Business
Objects.
If you encounter
connection issues
After the Data Insight application is running, you may encounter connection
issues. For example, you may receive the following message: “Task failed while
connecting to source database. Try again later.” If this occurs:
Use an Oracle utility, such as SQL*Plus, to test the desktop-to-database
connectivity outside of Data Insight. If you are not able to connect via the
utility using the same login information that you are using in Data Insight,
there is a problem with your login or the Oracle server.
Confirm with your database administrator or network administrator that the
server is operating correctly, and that there are no network issues. If the
server and the network are operating correctly:
Ensure that both of the iqi.ini files match. You can find one in the Data
Insight GUI installation path (x:\Firstlogic\IQInsight), and the other in
the Data Insight engine installation path (x:\Firstlogic\IQInsight\eng).
Note that x is the drive letter of the installation location.
If they do not match, copy the engine iqi.ini file to the GUI install path
(you may want to first rename the iqi.ini file in the GUI install path so
that it does not get overwritten).
Shut down the Data Insight engine and GUI, restart them, and then try to
recreate the error. If you still encounter the error, increase the connection
limit in the iqi.ini files to 15. Shut down, and then restart the Data Insight
engine and GUI. If you continue to encounter the error, try increasing
connection limit to 20.
If the engine does not
start
If you encounter errors
1002 or 1003
If you are analyzing Oracle source data and your Data Insight GUI and Data
Insight engine are on separate workstations, ensure that the tnsnames.ora
entries for the connection match on the workstations.
If the engine does not start and no error is displayed, or if engine errors are not
listed in the Iqieng.log, verify that the section brackets ([ ]) exist in the
appropriate places in the iqi.ini file.
There may be instances where Data Insight cannot return statistical data for
various reasons. In these cases, as shown in the following example, you will
receive an error code of 1002 or 1003, and the Data area of the window will
display data source-specific information about the error.
There are a number of possible conditions that can cause the 1002 or 1003 errors
to occur when writing or displaying results data:

The iqi.ini files for the engine and GUI have different repository owners.
Verify that the [Repository] section of both iqi.ini files match.
There was an abnormal termination of the GUI. Shut down and then restart
the engine.
Ensure that the userid that you are using in the engine has been granted the
Data Insight Metadata Repository access role for the source database. You
can find the userid in the Data Insight engine iqi.ini file. If you need
assistance verifying the privileges, contact your database administrator.
If you need to update
MDAC
If the Data Insight screen
is only partially visible
If SQL Server table names
contain quotation marks
If you update the MDAC version after you install the Data Insight application,
refresh the Data Insight application. For more information, see “Refresh your
installation” on page 64.
If the Data Insight screen is only partially visible, you can adjust the font size. To
change the setting, go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Display > Settings,
and select Advanced. From the DPI setting drop-down list, set the font size to
Small Fonts. If the Small Font option does not exist, select the Medium Fonts
option.
When profiling SQL Server data using an Oracle Metadata Reposito ry , verify th at
the SQL Server table names do not contain quotation marks (for example:
‘Results$’). If any of them do, use SQL Server Enterprise Manager to rename the
table (for example: Results$).
Patches needed for DB2
client connectivity
software
If you install the DB2 7.1 client connectivity software, ensure that it has all
necessary patches applied to it; otherwise, the GUI will not be able to access the
DB2 database. The patches and the pertinent info are available at:
If the data incorrectly
appears in the Bulk Load
window
Because you can view Unicode data in the Bulk Load window, you must install
the Arial Unicode font from the Windows installation CD. If the font is not
installed, the data may appear distorted in the preview pane. Contact your IT
department for additional information.
Report exporting
engine issues
If exports failIf you receive a permission error in the IqiExportEngine.log at x:\Firstlogic\
IQInsight (where x is the letter of the installation location ), ensure that th e report
exporting engine has adequate permissions:
Appendix E: Tuning and troubleshooting
