Congratulations on your purchase of the Burst Electronics Model
BG4 / BG5 Black Burst or the BG4CB / BG5CB Black Burst and
Color Bar generator. The BG4 and BG5 series video generators
continue our line of low cost, high quality video synchronization
generators for the broadcast professional.
BG4
Key features include four (4) synchronous composite video
outputs, NTSC video standard. 1kHz tone is also a standard
feature either as Balanced or Unbalanced (configured at the
factory). S-video is also an option that can be configured by the
factory.
BG5
Key features include four (4) synchronous composite video
outputs, NTSC video standard. S-video is also an option that
can be configured by the factory .
BG4CB
The BG4CB is a more versatile device. Key features include
synchronous video outputs. This model can be switched
between NTSC or PAL, and selection between Black Burst and
Full Field Color Bars. 1kHz tone is also a standard feature either
as Balanced or Unbalanced (configured at the factory). S-video
is also an option that can be configured by the factory.
BG5CB
The BG5CB is a more versatile device. Key features include
synchronous video outputs. This model can be switched
between NTSC or PAL, and selection between Black Burst and
Full Field Color Bars. S-video is also an option that can be
configured by the factory.
Operation
The BG4 and BG5 are simple to use. Connect the unit to the
included 12Vdc power supply and push the Power switch up.
The green LED on the front of the unit lights up, indicating
power. The video output connectors and tone connector (BG4
and BG4CB) are immediately active when the unit is powered.

The BG4CB and BG5CB is just as simple to use. Connect the
unit to the included 12Vdc power supply and push the Power
switch up. The green LED on the front of the unit lights up,
indicating power. The video output connectors and tone
connector (BG4 and BG4CB) are immediately active when the
unit is powered. The “Bars Black” switch allows the end -user to
select either Full Field Color Bars (up) or Black Burst (down). An
internal jumper labeled SW3 will allow the end -user to select
either NTSC (center to interior of unit) or PAL (center to exterior
of unit).
Video Outputs – The BG4 / BG5 and BG4CB / BG5CB come
standard with BNC connectors for composite video. If Y/C video
is required, we can convert one or all connectors to MiniDIN
(typical S-Video) connectors.
Audio Outputs - The BG4 and BG4CB come standard with a
RCA connector with stereo unbalance tone. Balanced tone with
a mini-XLR connector is available upon request.
