BUILDERS UTILITY x
BUILDERS "T" SURFACE GRINDER
is an improved surface grinding machine on which
tools, dies and small machine parts can be accurately
and quickly ground. This machine is the product of a
company with over forty years
manufacture of surface grinders. It embodies the
best conventional features, as well as new elements of
design, offering greater convenience and accuracy.
SMALL WORK CAN BE DONE CHEAPER
on Builders “T” Surface Grinder than on large auto
matic machines which not only require greater set-up
time but, due to overtravel and less flexibility, longer
grinding time also.
BUILDERS "T" SURFACE GRINDERS ARE
SO MODERATELY PRICED
that it pays to install them at several convenient
points in the shop so that they are always handy to the
men who frequently have small grinding work to do.

design of spindle housing and saddle assures absolute
freedom from vibration and this, together with the
T-Square Action principle, produces remarkable stock
removal combined with toolroom accuracy and finish.
The table has a platen with one tee slot for %" bolts.
A magnetic chuck 8" x 4", or a mechanical fixture
with a suitable opening for work within the capacity
of the machine can be furnished. This work fixture
has provision for mounting truing diamond.
EITHER BENCH OR FLOOR MOUNTINGS
are offered with Builders “T
Machines. The motor drives the spindle through a
vee belt, and is mounted on a pivoted base readily
adjustable to give proper belt tension. A l/3 h.p.,
110-volt, 60-cycle, single phase, standard motor is
regularly furnished. Motors of other current char
acteristics can be furnished if required. Complete
specifications
are
shown on page four of this bulletin.

UNUSUAL ACCURACY AND FINISH
IS OBTAINED
on this machine, as there is no play to affect the thick
ness of the work and there is but one oil film subject
to the grinding pressure where machines of the con-
ventional design have two or more.
SO LITTLE EFFORT IS REQUIRED
to operate Builders “T” Surface Grinder that a man
can work on one of these machines all day long with
out tiring. The front cover shows the operator seated

and no time is wasted by overstroking, too rapid or
too slow travel.
THE UNIQUE DESIGN OF BUILDERS
“
T
” Surface Grinder is a matter of special interest
to plant engineers and supervisors. Bed of box con
struction assures rigidity and prevents distortion.
The sturdy upright has three ground ways to which
the saddle is clamped when in grinding position. To
adjust the
screw is loosened, leaving the saddle free from these
ways, so that the movement is made with a minimum
of
effort. After reclamping the saddle to the ways the
final adjustment of the wheel to the work is made by
means of a micrometer handwheel, moving the spin-
die housing about its pivot in the saddle. The weight
of the driving motor holds the spindle housing against
the micrometer adj listing screw, eliminating backlash.
The spindle itself is equipped with a tapered bronze
bearing at the front and a radial ball bearing at the
rear. To adjust for wear, simply screw an adjusting
nut against the vertical shoulder and thereby return
the spindle to its proper position in the tapered
bearing. This bearing is fixed so that adjustment
cannot possibly cause any distortion. This unique
