Section 2Notes on the safe use of the adapters
The adapters can be used to connect the active electrodes from the actiCAP system or the BCI
package respectively via the MOVE transmitter and receiver to the following amplifiers only:
actiCHamp, V-Amp, QuickAmp or BrainAmp.
For detailed information, please refer to the operating instructions of the EEG amplifier.
The adapters do not provide galvanic isolation between input and output. Therefore, you may
only connect isolated amplifier inputs to the adapter.
Please disconnect the splitter cables of the active electrodes (e.g. actiCAP) after operation.
This preserves the batteries.
Please remove the batteries when the adapter is not used.
12
When combining with other devices to form a system, use the DIN EN 60601-1-1:2002-08 standard.
Do not operate the system within less than 3 meters of an operating cellular phone, similar radio transmitting devices or any other device producing powerful radio interference such as arc
welders, radio thermal treatment equipment, x-ray machines, or any other equipment that produces electrical sparks.
Explosion hazard. Do not use the system in the presence of a flammable anesthetic mixture
with air, oxygen or nitrous oxide.
Make sure that no fluids enter the adapters; therefore do not clean them under running water
or immerse them in water.
Take care when arranging the test subject and sensor cables to avoid risk of subject entanglement or strangulation.
Do not connect the system to a subject undergoing electrosurgery or defibrillation.

Section 4Operation and maintenance
4.1Operating the adapters
4.1.1MOVE2actiCAP Adapter
Please note that in order to operate the MOVE2actiCAP Adapter, it is necessary to insert the
supplied rechargeable batteries in the battery compartment.
Before starting acquisition, insert fully charged batteries into the adapter.
Prepare the electrodes according to the Operating Instructions of the actiCAP active electrode
system and measure the impedances; make sure that impedances are always low. The
MOVE2actiCAP Adapter does not provide any impedance measurement. Therefore, you should
use the actiCAP ControlBox II or the actiCHamp amplifier to measure the impedances.
15
Connect the MOVE2actiCAP Adapter to the MOVE transmitter via the ribbon cables and then
connect the subject via the electrode splitter cable for actiCAP (see Figure 6-1 on page 20
connectors to the MOVE transmitter are labeled output 1 to 32 and output 33 to 64. The connectors to the splitter cables are labeled input 1 to 32 and input 33 to 64. Ensure that the right
group of channels is connected to the input/output connectors to avoid confusion.
The MOVE2actiCAP Adapter also requires that the reference and the ground electrode be connected to the test subject. You can attach the reference electrode to the subject by means of
an ear clip. Alternatively, if one of the electrode positions on the cap is used as the reference
site you can remove one EEG electrode from the cap and place the reference electrode there.
After recording, disconnect the actiCAP splitter cables from the MOVE2actiCAP Adapter and
check the electrode impedances again with the help of the actiCAP ControlBox II. If the yellow
LED indicates a low battery status, we recommend that you change the rechargeable batteries
as soon as possible. The electrodes will still provide valid signals but the level of noise may
increase rapidly. Empty batteries cause the actiCAP active electrodes to produce signals that
are corrupted by switching artifacts and therefore are not usable.
If your experimental setup requires more than 64 channels, you can combine two adapters to
form a system of 128 channels (Figure 6-2 on page 21
available from Brain Products on request (see also Section 1.5.2). The use of Y-cables ensures
that identical reference and ground potentials are provided for each amplifier.
If you use a MOVE2actiCAP 128-channel system (two MOVE2actiCAP Adapters) in a configuration where only one adapter is equipped with electrodes (e.g. only 64 channels are to be recorded), you must remove the ground and reference Y-cables and connect the electrodes
directly to the MOVE2actiCAP Adapter equipped with electrodes. Otherwise, all active electrodes may go into saturation (provide flat signals) because the reference electrode is not supplied with power.
). The required connection cables are

4.1.2MOVE2BCIPack Adapter
Please note that in order to operate the MOVE2BCIPack Adapter, it is necessary to insert the
supplied rechargeable batteries in the battery compartment.
Before starting acquisition, insert fully charged batteries into the adapter.
Prepare the active electrodes and measure the impedances; make sure that impedances are
always low. The MOVE2BCIPack Adapter does not provide any impedance measurement.
Therefore, you should use the ImpBox to measure the impedances (for detailed information,
refer to the V-Amp Operating Instructions).
First, connect the MOVE2BCIPack Adapter to the MOVE transmitter via the ribbon cables supplied and then connect the test subject via the electrode splitter cable for V-Amp (Figure 6-3 on
page 22). The connectors to the MOVE transmitter are labeled output 1 to 32 and output 33 to
64. The connectors to the splitter cables are labeled input 1 to 32 and input 33 to 64. Ensure
that the right group of channels is connected to the input/output connectors to avoid confusion.
Operation and maintenance 16
After you have connected the MOVE2BCIPack Adapter to the MOVE transmitter, connect the
MOVE2V-Amp Adapter (E105b) to the MOVE receiver via the ribbon cable. Then connect the
MOVE2V-Amp Adapter (E105b) to the V-Amp amplifier using the single lead cables with touchproof connectors (see Figure 6-4 on page 22).
The MOVE2BCIPack Adapter requires that the electrode splitter cable for V-Amp be connected
to the adapter's first common input (channels 1 to 32). This splitter cable is equipped with
built-in reference and ground electrodes; it is therefore not necessary to use the adapter's separate inputs for the ground and reference electrodes. Also, please note that the adapter's second common input (channels 33 to 64) remains open.
After recording, disconnect the splitter cables from the MOVE2BCIPack Adapter and check the
electrode impedances again with the help of the ImpBox. If the yellow LED indicates a low battery status, we recommend that you change the rechargeable batteries as soon as possible.
The electrodes will still provide valid signals but the level of noise may increase rapidly. Empty
batteries cause the active electrodes to produce signals that are corrupted by switching artifacts and that are not usable.
4.1.3MOVE2actiCHamp Adapter
The MOVE2actiCHamp Adapter is provided to adapt the MOVE receiver to the actiCHamp amplifier. This module is a passive connector. Please note that although the MOVE2actiCHamp
Adapter has a battery compartment, the use of batteries is neither necessary nor recommended for its operation.
Page 17
Prepare the electrodes according to the Operating Instructions of the actiCAP active electrode
system and measure the impedances using the actiCHamp amplifier (for detailed information,
refer to the actiCHamp Operating Instructions). Make sure that impedances are always low.
Connect the MOVE2actiCHamp adapter to the MOVE receiver via the ribbon cable and then
connect the adapter to the actiCHamp amplifier using the connection cable supplied (see
Figure 6-5 on page 23
33 to 64. The connectors to the amplifier cables are labeled output 1 to 32 and output 33 to 64.
If your experimental setup requires more than 64 channels, you can combine two adapters to
form a system of 128 channels (see Figure 6-6 on page 24
configuration for 128 channels including the trigger cable connection. The required connection
cables are available from Brain Products on request (see also Section 1.5.2). The use of Y-ca-
bles ensures that identical reference and ground potentials are provided for each amplifier.
