6 IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATIONS
- Check that there is always at least 1cm between the door and the frame or masonry.
- Keep all readily infl ammable objects away from the appliance (nylon fabrics, infl ammable
liquids, etc.). Furniture items must be kept at a minimum distance of 1m from the appliance.
- ATTENTION: children and people who do not know how to operate the air-vent gas fi replace must completely refrain from using it. Where necessary, provide additional protection to
prevent, for example, children from touching the appliance.
- All visible parts must be treated as active heating surfaces and may not therefore be
touched during operation, at the risk of burning oneself.
- It is prohibited to use the appliance with the glass damaged or without the door.
- Only install the draught limiter if there is a diff erence in vertical length of over 3m in rela-
tion to the horizontal length.
- The fan must always be in operation. If this is not the case, a thermal switch activates the fi replace’s
emergency shutdown mechanism.
- The appliance is designed to cut out after 24 hours in operation. Simply restart the
appliance to put it back into operation.
FIRST FIRE
- On fi rst lighting (start of season or new installation), air in the gas fl ue may disrupt
fl ame detection. In this case, simply restart the appliance several times (to purge the fl ue), and
you must open the door after each unsuccessful a empt to light, in order to prevent gas
accumulating in the combustion chamber.
- You must wait 5 seconds for the pilot light to stabilize, and visually check the pre-
sence of the fl ame before lighting the burner. Also, it is recommended that the fl ame level be
at maximum in order to light the burner.
- Make sure you clean the glass well before and after the fi rst lighting of the fi replace to
prevent accumulation of particles on the glass.
- After two hours of heating, turn the appliance off , let it cool down, open the door to
remove the whitish deposit on the glass using a damp cloth, and then close the door.
- The fi rst fi re bakes the paint, which causes a release of fumes:
- Ventilate the room.
- Do not touch the paint until the fi replace has cooled down as initially it softens.

14 Argos
7 MAINTENANCE
- Never clean the glass when it is hot! Wait for it to cool down.
- Dusting: do not use an aggressive product or liquid; a dry cloth or preferably dry foam is recommended.
- Soiled areas can be restored using SPECIAL HIGH TEMPERATURE (Bodart&Gonay) spray paints availa
ble from your supplier.
- For cleaning the glass, do not use an aggressive product. We recommend the “BG CLEAN” product,
available from your supplier.
ANNUAL MAINTENANCE
- The appliance and exhaust fl ue must be checked and cleaned every year by your approved installer.
- Turn off the gas supply stopcock.
- Open the door (take this opportunity to clean it).
- Remove the gravel.
- Remove the dust deposits from inside the heating unit and from the burner using a vacuum
cleaner or brush.
. Check that the connections are airtight and that the diff erent parts of the appliance operate
smoothly.
- The Fan:
- Unplug the electricity supply, disconnect the fan(s) then remove it/them.
- Clean the impeller blades using a brush. (COMPRESSED AIR IS PROHIBITED).
- Reconnect everything.
VENTILATION
- The ventilation must always be switched on.
- Fan speed is adjustable to allow you to adjust ventilation to your requirements.
- The ventilation system is fi ed with a thermal switch. This device starts or stops ventilation auto
matically according to the temperature of the heating unit. When the la er reaches a temperature of
around 40°C, the thermal switch starts up the fan.
8 USING THE APPLIANCE
The fi replace is controlled by means of a remote control and a manual control for both starting and
stopping. Ventilation is managed using a variator.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
07DHARGA
A ention: Remove the instructions from the fi replace and give them to the client,
along with the necessary instructions (explanations and demonstrations).

24 Argos
- Check that the appliance installed is right for the type of gas used (the appliance can be installed for
natural gas or propane).
- Your supplier is the SPECIALIST chosen by BODART & GONAY to represent your region. For your
SAFETY and SATISFACTION, we recommend that you have them carry out your installation.
- Before installation, check that local supply conditions (identifi cation of gas and pressure category) and
the appliance se ings are compatible.
- This appliance must be installed in accordance with the regulations in force. We recommend that you
comply with the various local installation regulations for air-vent appliances.
- The Argos gas air-vent fi replace must be connected by an approved installer in accordance with the
standard NBN D51/003 or NBN D51/006 LPG and Pr NBN 61-002 for Belgium and standard NFD
35-377 or Document Technique Unifi é (DTU P45 204) for France.
- If your chimney has previously been used with another heating or kitchen appliance, you must have it
swept before positioning the chimney fl ue. The chimney fl ue and its connection to the fi replace must be
airtight and clean. The chimney must be made with the:
“ONTOP” US 130-200 fl ue system
or the “POUJOULAT” 130-200 EI fl ue
Only installations mentioned in the paragraph “chimney installation” are permi ed.
- Logs (optional) must be laid fl at on the “coal” bed (gravel).
- Your appliance has been correctly adjusted and sealed in the factory. If, because of local circumstances,
adjustments need to be made, they can only be done by the approved installer. Any intervention by the
user will lead ipso facto to annulment of the guarantee.
- Any installer wishing to change an appliance from one gas category to another MUST contact the
manufacturer.
- Plan for gas inlet pipes (outlet ½” female) on the inside right of the appliance in accordance with NBN
54/003 or NBN D51/006 regulations.
- Make sure you clean the glass well before the fi rst lighting of the fi replace to prevent accumulation of
particles on the glass.
- For the 450 m3/hr fan air inlet, prepare in the masonry a passage of at least 6 dm2 without fi lter, or
at least 9 dm2 with dust fi lter. No air intake from below. To bring air from the room to the fan.
- During installation of the fi replace with the 450 m³/hr fan, it is possible to use hot air fl ues. In this case,
the use of air intake grills or outside air inlet grills with sections at least equivalent to those of the
down draught grills is very important so as not to create a vacuum in the room.
- DO NOT INSULATE THE APPLIANCE.

that the meter does not move for 5 minutes.
- Connect the transformer. The transformer and the operating light (LED) should ideally be instal
led in an accessible place outside the appliance.
- Test the lighting of the pilot light (purge the fl ue). On fi rst lighting (start of season or new
installation), air in the gas fl ue may disrupt fl ame detection. In this case, simply restart the
appliance several times (to purge the fl ue), and you must open the door after each
unsuccessful a empt to light, in order to prevent gas accumulating in the combustion
chamber.
- Position the fl ap, burner and stone support. Spread the gravel uniformly over the burners and
stone support (an excess quantity may be provided depending on the model of fi replace). The
pilot light outlet aperture MUST NOT BE BLOCKED BY THE GRAVEL.
- Close the door using the tool.
- Test the lighting a few times, and check that the fl ame is spread evenly. Reposition the gravel if
necessary.
Lighting the appliance: check there is a fl ame at the pilot light and wait at least for the li le
fl ame drawing to stop fl ashing before lighting the burner.
- CHECK THAT THE APPLIANCE WORKS PROPERLY.Close the chimney and fi nish fi ing.
Fan installation
The fan is fi ed from inside.
aRCHIYou must:
1. Remove the stones if they are already in place.
2. Remove the stone support and burners.
3. Unscrew the large hatch (the one with the injectors and pilot light).
4. Place the fan inside the fi replace using silent blocks to position it.
A ention: the power lead may be plugged in either inside the fi replace or below it by passing it through the hole
provided for this purpose; make sure the fan is installed the right way round! Blower directed towards the back.
5. Replace the hatch, burners, stone support and stones.
