5.4 Turn the fl ow sele ctor to zero.

cannula from the pat ient.

cannula onto patient .
If using a mask ensure a tig ht
seal. Check the gas i s fl owing
and that there are no leak s
indicated by a hissin g sound.

3.1 Insert the oxygen prob e into
the Schrader out let.
Ensure the probe cli cks securely
into place.

Check the cylin der gauge,
for content level (refer to duration
chart).
Return the cylin der to a
designated ‘in use’ or e mpty
storage area.
5.3
Disconnect e quipment.
i) Remove the tubing by fi rmly
pulling the tube whilst holding the
cylinder handle.
4.4 Check the contents gauge at
regular intervals, to ensure there
is suffi cient gas (as described in
2.3).
3.3 Check for leak s which
maybe indicated by a
hissing sound.

5.5 Replace the outlet cover.
i) Pull up the hinged grey cove r.
ii) Refi t the red cover.
5.2 Turn off the cyl inder by
rotating the hand wheel clockwise
until it comes to a stop.
Do not use excessive force.

3.2 Slowly turn on the c ylinder
by rotating the hand whe el anticlockwise unti l it comes to a stop.

Release the probe by tw isting
the capstan cloc kwise.

a leak, turn off the cylinder and
check the equipm ent is properly
connected. Turn on th e cylinder
and re-check for leak s. If the leak
continues, turn off and quarantine
the cylinder and co ntact BOC
Healthcare.

Instructions for use.
1. Initial safety checks.
Before handling cy linders ensure your hands are clean. If yo u have
been using alcohol b ased gel or liquids to decontaminate your h ands
make sure the alcohol has tot ally evaporated.
2.1 Ensure you have the correct
medical gas by chec king the
cylinder label.
2.7 Attach tubing from m ask or
nasal cannula to the fi rtree outlet.
Ensure the tubing is p ushed on
securely.
2.6 Remove the valve outlet cover.
i) The hinged grey cover is pul led
down.
Do not remove the grey cover
and refi t after us e.

Prepare the cylinder for use
before placing near the patient.
Do not place the cyli nder on the
bed before you have set up the
cylinder.
When s electi ng the c ylinder for use, c heck th at the cy linder i s clean a nd
free from any damage. E nsure the cylinder is free from oi l and grease,
particularl y around the Schrader and fi rtree outlets.
2.3 Make sure the contents gau ge
is in the green zone. This indicate s
that the cylinder i s FULL.
2.9 Set the prescribed fl ow by
rotating the dial fl ow selector.
Ensure that the corre ct fl ow rate
number is clearly v isible in the
fl ow selec tor window. Check the
gas is fl owing.

Check the expir y date on the
batch label fi t ted to the cylinder.
2.8 Slowly turn on the c ylinder
by rotating the hand whe el
anticlockwis e until it comes to
a complete stop.
Do not use excessive force.
2.4
Remove the tamper evide nt
handwheel cover by pulli ng the
tear ring.
Discard the cover into the
recycle bin. If the c ylinder has
been used before this cove r
will not be present.
2.10
Ensure the cylind er is turned
on and leak tested before pla cing
near the patient. Use a sui table
cylinder holde r where possible.
Do not place the cyli nder on the
patient’s bed unles s there is no
alternative.
2. Preparing a new cylinder for use.
Using the fi rtree.
If the cylinder ha s been used before make sure you have suffi cient gas for treatment by inspec ting the
contents gauge. If the n eedle is in the red zone there is lim ited capacity and you may need to ch ange
the cylinder (see d uration chart overleaf).
ii)
The red cover is removed by
pulling towards you.
Retain the red cover to refi t
after use.

Ensure the fl ow selector on
top of the cylinder is s et to zero
and the hand wheel is tu rned off
before connectin g equipment.
