IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS TO CONSIGNEE
OPEN AND INSPECT IMMEDIATELY FOR DAMAGED OR LOST GOODS
Inspect shipment carefully on arrival for damage to cartons (dented or torn)
or indication that package has been opened (unstapled or retaped) during
transit. In case of damage, save container and packaging material for
inspection.
Claims for loss or damage sustained in transit must be made as follows:
1. VISIBLE DAMAGE TO SHIPPING CONTAINER — Any evidence of
external damage must be noted on both consignee Memo Copy (to be
retained by receiver) and on the delivering carrier's receipt. Failure to
adequately describe such external damage may result in the carrier
refusing to honor a claim. Request carrier's truck driver to sign notation
on Consignee Memo Copy. If the contents are damaged, make a written
request to delivering carrier for its inspection of the damage and follow
instructions in paragraph 5 below.
2. SHORTAGE — If number of cartons in shipment does not correspond
with the number shown Consignee Memo Copy, state the number of
missing cartons on both the Consignee Memo Copy and on the
delivering carrier's receipt. Also promptly notify delivering carrier's local
office by telephone.
3. PILFERAGE — If there is evidence of possible pilferage indicated by
prior opening of cartons, notate on both the Consignee Memo Copy
and delivering carrier's receipt. If some of the contents are missing,
make a written request to delivering carrier for its inspection of the
pilferage and follow instructions on paragraph 5 below.
4. CONCEALED LOSS OR DAMAGE — Concealed loss or damage means
loss or damage which does not become apparent until the merchandise
has been unpacked. The contents may be damaged in transit due to
rough handling even though the shipping container may not show
external damage. When the damage is discovered upon unpacking,
make a written request for inspection by the carrier's agent within fifteen
days of the delivery date and follow instructions on paragraph 5 below.
5. So that Bobrick can assist in filing a claim against the carrier in your
behalf, see instructions on back of Packing List.
6. It is the receiver's responsibility to:
Notate any exceptions on Carrier's Receipt and on Consignee
Memo Copy.
Make prompt request for inspection by delivering carrier.
