Safety Precautions

Blackline GPS takes your safety and the safety of those around you very seriously. It is important for you to be aware of the following precautions.

DANGER

Do not attempt to recover a stolen vehicle yourself or arrange for a third party to recover the vehicle other than your local police service. You risk endangering yourself or others around you, and/or damage to property.
Do not place a Blackline GPS Product in or near an open ame or in the presence of ammable gases or fumes.
Operation of any electrical equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres can constitute a safety hazard.

WARNING

When in a hospital or other health care facility, observe the restrictions on the use of mobile devices, such as cellular phones. Do not operate Blackline GPS Products where you are not able to operate your mobile/cellular phone.
Switch Blackline GPS Products o before boarding an aircraft and make sure that it cannot be inadvertently turned on. The operation of wireless appliances, including Blackline GPS Products is forbidden aboard aircraft to prevent interference with communication systems. Failure to observe these instructions may lead to the suspension or denial of cellular services to the oender, legal action or both.

Road safety comes rst. Do not operate a Blackline GPS Product while you are driving a vehicle. Park your vehicle before operating a Blackline GPS product, or using your mobile phone to interface to the Blackline GPS service.
Electrical equipment may be hazardous if misused. Operation of this Product, or similar Products, must always be supervised by an adult. Do not allow chil­dren access to the interior of any electrical Product and do not permit them to handle any cables.
Do Not:
Operate Blackline GPS products outside their specied operating temperature. Consult the specications section.
Store Blackline GPS products outside their specied storage temperature. Consult the specications section.
Operate Blackline GPS products outside their specied humidity rating. Consult the specications section.
Operate Blackline GPS products in direct sunlight.
Dispose of Blackline GPS products in your household trash. Seek advice from your local electronics recycling authority. Blackline products may contain an internal lithium-ion battery pack.

Getting Started

Activate your Device

1. Fully charge your Dart for at least 8 hours.
2. Set up your account while Dart charges by visiting:
http://portal.blackline gps.com
3. Click Sign In or New Account to access your account.
4. Then navigate to Menu > Activate a Device.
 Dart is shipped in a low power mode. The Power/Status button is disabled. Dart must
be charged to revive it from this low power mode. See Charging Dart for charging instructions.
 When prompted, enter the Unit ID and Activation Code. Help can be located at
portal.blacklinegps.com/support. Please refer to the Blackline Business Portal
help pages for questions on setting up and interacting with your device.
NOTE: Service activation requires a valid credit
card and the Unit ID and Activation Code.

Overview

The Blackline GPS Dart provides covert GPS tracking, location awareness and system alert­ing in a robust design. This guide provides information that you will nd helpful to com­fortably operate your Dart device and get started using your Blackline Business Portal. Dart contains the following internal components:
 Wireless radio and antenna
 High sensitivity GPS receiver
 Ultimate Sense 2® GPS antenna
 2600 mAh rechargeable battery
 Tri-axis accelerometers
 Power button and indicator light

Requirements

To operate the Dart requires the following:
 Service activation within a Business Portal account
 Sucient battery capacity to operate
 Sucient wireless signal level to communicate data
 Sucient GPS signal coverage to compute locations

Using Dart

Dart Hardware Details

Charging Dart

Charging status can be determined by observing the Red Charging Light. See the section Red Charging Light for more detailed information.
1. Plug the wall charger into an electrical outlet (some outlets are controlled by a wall switch).
2. Remove the Sealing Plug from the Micro USB Charging Port on Dart.
3. Insert the Micro USB Cable Plug into the corresponding Micro USB Charging Jack
on Dart ensuring the USB symbol
4. Completely charge Dart for 8 hours.
5. Remove the power cable from Dart and replace the Sealing Plug.
 If Dart is in a very low power state, it may take up to an hour of charging before the
charging state can be observed.
 Dart is environmentally protected only when the Sealing Plug is fully inserted into the
charging port.

Turning Dart On

1. Press the Power/Status button to turn Dart on.
2. Dart will attempt to connect to a wireless network.
 There is an approximate two second delay from when the button is pushed until the
Green Status Light is powered.
 Dart needs to have sucient battery power to connect to the wireless network. It takes
approximately one minute for Dart to connect to the wireless network.
Turning Dart O
1. Press the Power/Status button once to wake up the Green Status Light
Stealth Mode.
2. Press the Power/Status button for four seconds to power Dart o.
 Dart will ash both the Green Status Light and the Red Charging Light while turning o
during the shutdown sequence.

 When Dart is o, you are not able to remotely turn the device on. You must
physically turn it back on when you wish to use it further.

Green Status Light

Dart features a Green Status Light with the following functions.
Physical Feature Use
Light ashing Indicates Dart is powered and connecting to the wireless
network, or indicates Dart is turning o, if it is in the shutdown sequence.
Light on Indicates Dart is powered and connected to the wireless
network.
Light o Indicates Dart is either powered o or is powered on and has
entered the Green Status Light Stealth Mode.
 Dart is referred to as being oine and is not connected to the Blackline Network when
the Green Status Light is blinking or the device is powered o.
 Dart is referred to as being online and connected to the Blackline Network when the
Green Status Light is on continuously or is in the Green Status Light Stealth Mode.
Green Status Light Stealth Mode
Dart features a Green Status Light Stealth Mode that turns o the Green Status Light two minutes after the last Power/Status button press. This feature ensures Dart remains co­vertly hidden and reduces power consumption.
Waking the Green Status Light
If Dart is in the Green Status Light Stealth Mode, you may wake up the light by pressing the Power/Status button.
 The Green Status Light will wake up and blink if connecting to the wireless network
(oine) or be illuminated continuously if connected to the wireless network (online).
 If the Green Status Light does not wake up, the internal battery of your Dart has been
depleted and needs to be charged.

Red Charging Light

Dart features a Red Charging Light with the following functions.
Physical Feature Use
Light o Device is not charging
1 Light blink Device is charging but does not have enough power to log
onto the GSM Network
2 Lights blinks Device is charging with battery between 0 – 50%
3 Lights blinks Device is charging with battery between 50 – 100%
Light solid on Device is charging with battery at 100%
 The Red Charging Light will ash with the Green Status Light if Dart is in the
shutdown sequence.

Installing Dart

Installing Dart with Velcro®

You may attach Dart to a surface using velcro fasteners:
1. Clean the mounting surface and the bottom of Dart.
2. Peel the backing from the loop portion of the Velcro®
and adhere to the bottom of Dart, being careful not to cover the product label.
3. Peel the backing from the hook portion of the Velcro®.
4. Turn Dart on.
5. Attach Dart to the surface, rmly pressing into place.
 Prior to removing Dart, wait 24 hrs for the adhesive to cure.

Alerts

Dart is congurable through your Business Portal Account to display alert and notication messages on the portal and to send messages through e-mail and SMS messaging.

Alerts

An alert is a message that communicates a critical event, such as device motion.
Alerts Explanation
Motion alert Dart will send a motion alert when the device detects a motion
event, dened as a sudden motion. This alert will only be sent if you have enabled the motion detector in your Business Portal Account.
Low internal battery alert
Zones Dart will send an entering zone or leaving zone alert when it has

Dart Accessories

Additional Accessories for the Dart Covert Tracker

Magnetic Mount accessory allows you to utilize a powerful magnet to install your Dart.
External Battery provides an additional 34,800 mAh of battery capacity to Dart.
Hard Wire Kit allows you to permanently connect Dart to your vehicle’s power supply.

Optional Magnetic Mount Accessory

The optional Magnetic Mount can be obtained as an accessory to Dart.
Use caution when handling the magnet to prevent personal or property damage. Strong magnets can damage media such as hard drives, credit cards, ID cards, and similar devices that use magnetic media
Individuals with pacemakers or other medical devices and mechanical implants should use caution when handling the magnet that accompanies the magnetic mount.
Attaching Dart to the Magnetic Mount accessory
1. Align the Micro USB Charging Port end of Dart with the retaining clip end of the
Magnetic Mount.
2. Slide Dart until the retaining clips of the Magnetic Mount engage and hold onto Dart. The two screw holes at the opposite end of the Magnetic Mount should align with the holes on Dart.
3. Use the two screws provided to screw the Magnetic Mount to Dart. Use care not to over tighten and strip the screws.

Removing Dart from the Magnetic Mount Accessory

To remove Dart from the Magnetic Mount, use a screwdriver to remove the two screws and slide Dart o from the Magnetic Mount.

Mounting Dart and the Magnetic Mount

The Magnetic Mount accessory is a versatile removable mount that contains a pre-installed rare earth magnet providing 120 lbs of mounting force. The mounting surface must be a at metallic ferrous surface.
Mounting Dart with the Magnetic Mount Accessory
When mounting Dart with the Magnetic Mount Accessory, you may use the included Cones of Silence Magnetic Silent Putty to eliminate the sound of the magnet snapping to a metal surface.
To magnetically mount Dart:
1. The Magnetic Silent Putty is separated into two equal portions allowing for
two applications.
2. Roll one of the portions into a small ball.
3. Place the ball onto the magnet and store the remaining portion for future use.
4. Choose a location on a target’s vehicle to mount Dart.
5. Carefully place the Magnet Mount accessory to a mounting location ensuring that
the putty makes contact rst.
 For optimum GPS tracking performance, choose a mounting location where no metal
covers the top side of the Dart enclosure.
 Do not mount Dart on or in close proximity to a vehicle’s exhaust system or areas of
high temperature.

Considerations Regarding Use and Storage of Dart

Dart meets IP65 ingress protection ensuring that under normal operation no dirt or water can enter the device.
Storage temperature range of: -30 to 75° C (-22 to 167° F). Operating temperature range of: -20 to 55° C (-4 to 131° F). Charging temperature: -20 to 45° C (-4 to 113° F).
