Intended use
Your Black & Decker vacuum cleaner has been designed for wet and dry vacuum cleaning purposes. This appliance is intended for consumer indoor use only.
Safety instructions
Warning! Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and

u Read all of this manual carefully before using the appli-
ance.
u The intended use is described in this manual. The use of
any accessory or attachment or the performance of any operation with this appliance other than those recom­mended in this instruction manual may present a risk of
personal injury.
u Retain this manual for future reference.
Using your appliance
u Make sure that the appliance is switched off before con-
necting to or disconnecting from the power supply.
u Always take care when using the appliance. u Do not use the appliance outdoors. u Never pull the power supply cord to disconnect the plug
from the socket. Keep the power supply cord away from heat, oil and sharp edges.
u If the power supply cord is damaged during use, discon-
nect the appliance from the power supply immediately. Do not touch the power supply cord before disconnecting from the power supply.
u Disconnect the appliance from the power supply when not
in use, before tting or removing parts and before clean­ing.
u Do not immerse the appliance in water.
After use
u Switch off and remove the plug from the socket before
leaving the appliance unattended and before changing, cleaning or inspecting any parts of the appliance.
u When not in use, the appliance should be stored in a dry
place.
u Children should not have access to stored appliances.
Inspection and repairs
u Before use, check the appliance for damaged or defective
parts. Check for breakage of parts, damage to switches and any other conditions that may affect its operation.
u Do not use the appliance if any part is damaged or defec-
tive.
u Have any damaged or defective parts repaired or replaced
by an authorized repair agent.

u Before use, check the power supply cord for signs of dam-
age, ageing and wear.
u Do not use the appliance if the power supply cord or
mains plug is damaged or defective.
u If the power supply cord or mains plug is damaged or
defective it must be repaired by the manufacturer or its
service agent or a similarly qualied person in order to
avoid a hazard. Do not cut the power supply cord and do not attempt to repair it yourself.
u Never attempt to remove or replace any parts other than
those specied in this manual.
Additional safety instructions for vacuum cleaners
u Before use, always make sure that the lter or dust bag is
correctly seated.
u Do not use the appliance to pick up any materials that
could catch re.
u Do not use the appliance to pick up any materials that are
burning or smoking (matches, cigarettes, hot ash, etc.).
u Do not block the vents of the appliance. u Avoid inhaling dust when emptying the appliance or the
dustbag.
u Always keep the brush, crevice tool and other accessories
away from the body whilst the unit is in operation.
u Always empty the product outside. u Use extra care when cleaning stairs u Always be aware of the position of the power cable and
hose so as to avoid a tripping hazard during use.
u Keep the motor exhaust away from eyes and faces. u Keep children and animals at a safe distance when using
this appliance.
u Always work from bottom up when using the appliance on
stairs, and keep the appliance at least a stair below your working position.
u Do not use the appliance without the suction head or
another suitable accessory mounted to the tube.
u Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving
parts.
u Do not use damaged accessories. u Use only Black & Decker accessories. u Do not use the appliance on animals. u Disconnect the product from the electrical supply before
emptying, cleaning or carrying out any maintenance on the appliance.
Safety of others
u This appliance is not intended for use by persons (includ-
ing children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concern­ing the use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.

Residual risks.
Additional residual risks may arise when using the appliance/
tool which may not be included in the enclosed safety warn­ings. These risks can arise from misuse, prolonged use etc. Even with the application of the relevant safety regulations and the implementation of safety devices, certain residual risks can not be avoided. These include:
u Injuries caused by touching any rotating/moving parts. u Injuries caused when changing any parts, blades or ac-
cessories.
u Injuries caused by prolonged use of an applianmce/tool.
When using any tool for prolonged periods ensure you take regular breaks.
u Impairment of hearing. u Health hazards caused by breathing dust developed when
using your tool (example:- working with wood, especially oak, beech and MDF.)

Warning! This product must be earthed.

Always check that the power supply corre­sponds to the voltage on the rating plate.
Power plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in
any way. Unmodied plugs and matching outlets will reduce
risk of electric shock.
u If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by
the manufacturer or an authorised Black & Decker Service Centre in order to avoid a hazard.
Extension cables & Class 1 product
u A 3-core cable must be used as your appliance is
earthed and of Class 1 construction.
u Up to 30m (100 ft) can be used without loss of power.
Electrical safety for model WBV1450
This appliance is double insulated; therefore no earth wire is required. Always check that the

Assembly
Removing the lid (g. A)
u Release the two clips (14) that hold the lid (13) in place. u Carefully remove the lid from the appliance.
Fitting the lid (g. A)
u Fit the lid to the container (1) making sure that the
recesses in the lid (13) line up with the clips (14).
u Fasten the two clips (14).
Fitting the wheels (g. B)
u Remove the lid as described above and turn the container
(1) upside down.
u Insert the four wheels (10), make sure that they click rmly
into place.
Fitting the lter (g. C)
u Remove the lid as described above. u Place the lter (16) over the plastic frame (15) making
sure that the studs inside the lter line up with the receiv­ing holes (17).
u Turn the lter (16) clockwise.
Removing the lter (g. C)
u Remove the lid as described above. u Turn the lter (16) anti-clockwise. u Lift the lter (16) off the plastic frame (15).

Fitting the paper dust bag (dry vacuuming only)

u Remove the lid as described above. u Fit the cardboard ange (18) of the paper dust bag (19)
around the hose inlet (20).
u Fit the lid as described above.

Connecting the hose (g. E)
u Insert the hose connector (21) into the inlet (22) of the
appliance.
u Press rmly until it clicks into place.
Disconnecting the hose (g. E)
u Press the hose release button (23). u Pull the hose connector (21) out of the inlet (22) of the
appliance.
Fitting the extension tube (g. F)
u Firmly push one of the extension tubes (2) into the handle
adaptor (3).
u If required, attach the second extension tube (2) to the
end.
Fitting accessories (g. F)
The crevice tool (9) allows for vacuuming in narrow and hard­to-reach places. The upholstery tool (8) allows for vacuuming on furniture, blinds, curtains, windows and stairs.
The oor head (11) is used for wet/dry vacuuming. The accessories can be t on both the handle adaptor (3) and
the extension tubes (2).
u Firmly push the accessory onto the handle adaptor (3) or
extension tube (2) as required.
u To remove an accessory, pull the accessory from the
handle adaptor or the extension tube. Note: When not in use the the accessories can be stored on the accessory mounts (7).
Use
Switching on and off (g. G)
u To switch the appliance on, press the on/off switch (5) in to
position I.
u To switch the appliance off, press the on/off switch (5) in to
position 0.
u To switch the appliance into dust extraction mode, press
the on/off switch (5) in to position II (WBV1405P only).
Vacuuming
u When operating the appliance, make sure that the hose is
not trapped, twisted or blocked.
Note: When Vacuuming you should ensure that either the lter or the paper dust bag is tted.
Wet pick up
Note: Before using the appliance to clean up spills etc.,
remove the lter or the paper dust bag depending on which is tted.
u Fit the oor head (11).
Caution! The container (1) should be checked and emptied frequently. Note: after wet use the container should be emptied and
wiped. When the container is dry the lter or the paper dust bag should be re-tted.
Dust extraction mode (WBV1405P only)
Warning! The socket outlet is only for the connection of power
tools to the vacuum cleaner. Any other use of the socket outlet is not permitted.
Warning! Only suitable for tools rated 2000W or less. Warning! make sure that the power tool is switched off before
connecting to the socket on the vacuum cleaner.
u Plug your tool into the power tool socket (12) on the side
of the vacuum cleaner.
u Insert the handle adaptor (4) into the dust extraction hole
of your tool (an adaptor may be required)
u Press the on/off switch (5) in to position II.
Note: When you turn on your power tool the vacuum cleaner will automatically start. When you turn off the power tool there will be a short delay before the vacuum cleaner turns off, this
is to allow the tool and the exible hose to be clear of debris.
Optimising the suction force
In order to keep the suction force optimised, the lters must be
cleared regularly during use.
Storing the appliance
Warning! When storing the appliance, switch the appliance off
and unplug it.
u Place the appliance in an upright position. u Store the appliance in a dry location. The appliance can
be carried by the handle (6).
Maintenance
Your Black & Decker corded/cordless appliance/tool has been
designed to operate over a long period of time with a minimum of maintenance. Continuous satisfactory operation depends upon proper tool care and regular cleaning.
Warning! Before performing any maintenance on corded/
cordless power tools:
u Switch off and unplug the appliance/tool. u Or switch off and remove the battery from the appliance/
tool if the appliance/tool has a separate battery pack.
u Or run the battery down completely if it is integral and then
switch off.
u Unplug the charger before cleaning it. Your charger does
not require any maintenance apart from regular cleaning.
u Regularly clean the ventilation slots in your appliance/tool/
charger using a soft brush or dry cloth.
u Regularly clean the motor housing using a damp cloth. Do
not use any abrasive or solvent-based cleaner.

Cleaning the lter
The lter (16) prevents particles and larger objects from enter­ing the motor housing. The lter is tted over a plastic frame (15) which contains a safety oat valve. Note: The oat safety valve rises with the water level, blocking off the motor when the oat safety valve reaches the top. The lter (16) is re-usable and should be cleaned regularly.
u Remove the lid as previously described. u Remove the lter as previously described. u Brush any loose dust off the lter or wash with water and a
neutral detergent.
It is recommended that this lter is replaced regularly, depend­ing upon the frequency of use. Replacement lters are avail-
able from your Black & Decker dealer: Cat Number WBVF10
u Ret the lter as previously described.
Replacing the paper dust bag
The paper dust bag should be replaced whenever it becomes full, worn or damaged. Replacement dust bags are available from your Black & Decker dealer: Cat Number WBVB30-XJ
u Remove the lid as described above. u Carefully pull the cardboard ange (18) of the paper dust
bag (19) from the hose inlet (20).
u Dispose of the paper dust bag (19) in normal household
waste.
u Wipe the inside of the container with a damp cloth. Do not
use any abrasive or solvent-based cleaner.
u Fit a replacement dust bag as previously described.
Mains plug replacement for model WBV1405P (U.K. & Ireland only)
If a new mains plug needs to be tted:
u Safely dispose of the old plug. u Connect the brown lead to the live terminal in the new
plug.
u Connect the blue lead to the neutral terminal. u Connect the green/yellow lead to the earth terminal.
Warning! Follow the tting instructions supplied with good
quality plugs. Recommended fuse: 13A.
Protecting the environment
Separate collection. This product must not be

disposed of with normal household waste.
Should you nd one day that your Black & Decker product
needs replacement, or if it is of no further use to you, do not dispose of it with household waste. Make this product avail­able for separate collection.
Separate collection of used products and packaging
z
allows materials to be recycled and used again. Re-use of recycled materials helps prevent environ­mental pollution and reduces the demand for raw materials.
Local regulations may provide for separate collection of elec­trical products from the household, at municipal waste sites or by the retailer when you purchase a new product.
Black & Decker provides a facility for the collection and recycling of Black & Decker products once they have reached the end of their working life. To take advantage of this service please return your product to any authorised repair agent who will collect them on our behalf.
