Your BLACK+DECKER DC1005 Travel Kettle has been
designed for boiling water as described in this manual. Do
not use this appliance for any other purpose. This product is
intended for household and similar locations such as:

u A 3 core cable must be used as your tool is earthed and of
class 1 construction.
u Up to 30m (100 ft) can be used without loss of power.
u If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the
manufacturer or an authorised BLACK+DECKER Service
Centre in order to avoid a hazard.

u Clean the appliance before rst use.
u Remove the lid (1) by turning it anti clockwise and lifting it
clear of the unit.
u Fill the kettle with cold water to the maximum fill mark. Do
not overfill as described below.
u Replace the lid (1) by aligning the open icon on the
lid (1) and pip on the kettle body then turn clockwise to
lock. The pip on the body and the close icon should be
aligned.
u Boil the water as described below.
u Discard the boiled water and repeat the procedure.
Use
Warning! Always place the appliance on a at, clean and non-
slip surface before operating it.
Warning! Always check the water level while using the appli-
ance. Never use the appliance without sufcient water.
Warning! The outer surfaces of the kettle may become hot
in use.
Warning! Do not remove the lid while the water is boiling.
Warning! Steam may escape from the spout.
Warning! Allow the Appliance to cool before re-lling
Boiling water
u Unplug the kettle and take it to a water outlet
u Remove the lid (1) as described above.
u Fill the kettle with cold water to the desired level. Do not
overll.
u To prevent dry boiling ll to at least 240ml (two cups)
u Do not ll the kettle beyond the maximum ll mark. If the
kettle is overlled, boiling water may be ejected from the
spout (6).
u Replace the lid (1) and ensure it is in the locked position
with the closed icon in line with the pip on the body.
u Insert the plug into a power socket. Press the on/off
switch (4). The on/off indicator light (5) will light.
u After a short period the water will begin to boil.
u The unit will continue to boil until turned off or the plug is
removed from the power socket. Do not open the lid (1)
when the water is boiling.

Before first use
u Remove all packaging from the appliance.

Approximate Boiling times
Approximately 6 minutes for 500mls (Maximum)
Pouring boiled water
u Make sure the unit is disconnected from the power socket.
u To avoid scalding, tilt the kettle slowly to pour the boiled
water.
Cleaning and maintenance
Warning! Before cleaning and maintenance, switch the appli-
ance off and remove the plug from the socket.

u Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth.
u Do not use scouring pads.
u If necessary, use a mild detergent to remove spots. Do not
use any abrasive or solvent based cleaner.
Descaling the appliance
If the appliance is used in an area with hard water, it is
advised to descale the appliance from time to time
u Half ll the kettle with cold tap water.
u Add 30 ml of white vinegar.
u Boil the mixture and allow it to stand for 30 seconds.
u Repeat this procedure 2 or 3 times.
u Thoroughly rinse the kettle.
Mains plug replacement
If a new mains plug needs to be tted:
u Safely dispose of the old plug.
u Connect the brown lead to the live terminal of the new
plug.
u Connect the blue lead to the neutral terminal.
u If the product is class l (earthed), connect the green / yel-
low lead to the earth terminal.
Warning! If your product is class ll double insulated (only 2
wires in the cord set), no connection is to be made to the earth
terminal.
Follow the tting instructions supplied with good quality plugs.
Any replacement fuse must be of the same rating as the
original fuse supplied with the product.
