USING YOUR BLENDER
Important: Appliance should always have lid in place when in use. Caution: Do not place blender jar onto base when motor is running.
1. Make sure appliance is OFF.
2. Place ingredients to be blended into jar. For best results, add ingredients in the following order:
a. Liquids first: liquids help the blades move easily when you turn on your
blender.
b. Powders(such as protein mixes and cocoa powder): powders should go
after liquids and before solids so they don’t fly up and stick to the lid. c. Soft foods: such as bananas and cucumbers go next. d. Hard foods: such as frozen fruits and raw veggies. e. Ice cubes last: they help pull all other ingredients down towards the blades.
3. Place lid on jar; make sure lid cap is in place.
4. Plug power cord into outlet. Press ON/OFF button. LED should turn a solid color to signify the blender is in standby mode. After 60 seconds the unit will automatically power off if no buttons are pressed. The LED will blink slowly when the blender is in use.
5
Note: When in use, do not leave blender unattended. When using hard foods, such as ice or cheese, keep one hand on the lid to keep blender in place.
5. Select the speed that best suits your desired task. (See SPEED CHART)
Important: Do not hold speed button, simply press the desired speed, watch and press Pulse/Stop when the desired consistency is achieved. Holding the button for longer than 30 seconds will cause an error. Unit must be unplugged to reset.
6. For blending tasks – or when blending thick mixtures – use the PULSE button for several seconds, then release. Repeat until food has desired consistency. Releasing pulse stops the blending and the unit returns to STANDBY.
7. Open the lid cap to add ingredients while the blender is running and drop ingredients through the opening.
Important: Do not remove the lid while the blender is running.
8. When finished, press PULSE/STOP or ON/OFF to stop blending. Make sure blades have completely stopped before attempting to remove the blending jar from the base (Refer to troubleshooting for any issues).
9. To remove the jar, grasp the handle and lift up.
10. Remove the lid to pour.
11. Press ON/OFF to power off. Unit will auto shutoff after 60 seconds without use.
12. Always unplug the appliance when not in use.
USING THE PRE-PROGRAMMED SMOOTHIE FUNCTION
Fill the blender jar with the desired ingredients.
Place the lid on the blending jar. Place the jar and lid on the blender base securely.
Press the pre-programmed “SMOOTHIE” button. The blender will automatically cycle for 30 seconds. LED will blink slowly during operation and will stop automatically when complete.
The program can be stopped mid cycle by pressing the PULSE/STOP button.
6
USING THE PERSONAL BLENDER JAR
(NOT INCLUDED WITH ALL MODELS) Note: Do not blend hot liquids in the personal jar.
1. Place the personal blender jar on a flat surface with the open end facing up. Fill the jar with ingredients. Do not fill ingredients past the “20oz.” marking.
Note: For best results, add ingredients in the following order:
a. Liquids b. Ice c. Hard Foods d. Soft Foods e. Powders
2. Tighten the personal jar BLACK blade base on the open end of the personal jar with the blade facing down towards the ingredients. It is important to tighten to prevent leaking during blending.
3. Turn personal jar upside down and place on the blender base, turning clockwise to lock into place.
4. Select the appropriate speed or use PULSE to blend to desired consistency.
5. Once blending has finished, remove the personal jar by turning counterclockwise and lifting off the base. Turn the jar over and place it on a flat surface. Always make sure blades have stopped moving before removing jar.
Important: If the jar gets stuck on the blending base or begins to loosen from the blade base, follow these steps:
a. Unplug the unit b. Turn the jar clockwise to tighten jar onto the blade base c. Turn jar and blade base assembly counterclockwise to unlock from blending base and lift up.
6. Remove the blade base from the personal jar by turning counterclockwise. Place the personal jar drinking lid on the personal jar and enjoy your delicious drinks on the go.
Note: The maximum rating is based on the blender jar attachment. The power input of the optional personal jar is less than the allowable deviation.
USING THE MINI JAR
(NOT INCLUDED WITH ALL MODELS)
The mini jar and mini jar GREY blade base should be used for grinding dry materials, such as herbs and grains. The mini jar can also be used to make small portions of everything you would make in the personal jar, if used with the personal jar BLACK blade base.
Important: The mini jar GREY blade base is designed exclusively for dry ingredients and therefore can only be used for grinding dry ingredients. DO NOT use the mini jar blade to blend wet foods. You may make smoothies and
7
other wet foods in the mini jar, but you must use the PERSONAL JAR BLADE BASE.
1. Place ingredients to be blended or grinded in the mini jar.
2. If grinding dry ingredients, screw grinding blade (GREY) until tight. If blending wet ingredients, screw blending blade (BLACK) until tight.
3. Turn mini jar upside down and place on the blender base, turning clockwise to secure it in place.
4. Use the PULSE function to blend or grind your ingredients.
5. When finished, unscrew the mini jar from the base and unplug the appliance.
Note: To avoid overheating during blending, do not use the mini jar for more than 30 consecutive seconds.
6. Remove the blade base by turning counterclockwise and store dry foods with mini jar lid.
BLENDING AND GRINDING TIPS AND TECHNIQUES
• Cut food into pieces no larger than 3⁄4 for use in the blender.
• When preparing foods that have several different kinds of ingredients, always add liquid ingredients first.
• When ingredients splatter onto the sides of the jar or the mixture is very thick, press the PULSE/STOP button to turn appliance off. Remove the lid and use a rubber spatula to scrape down the sides of the jar and to redistribute the food, pushing food toward the blades. Replace the lid and continue blending.
• The lid cap holds up to 2oz. of liquid and can be used as a measure when adding ingredients such as juices, milk, cream or liquor.
• When making bread crumbs or blending dry goods, make sure blending jar is completely dry.
• Use the #3 speed button when preparing beverages that include ice cubes or anything frozen; this helps to produce a smoother texture.
• The PULSE function is helpful when short bursts of power are needed, such as when preparing thick smoothies or milkshakes. Do not use pulse for more than 10 seconds at a time. Release the PULSE button regularly, allow the blender to rest briefly, and then continue.
• Do not run blender for longer than 1 ½ minutes at a time.
• Do not use if blender jar is chipped or cracked.
• It is helpful to begin the blending process on the lowest speed and then increase to a higher speed, if necessary.
• To stop blending at any time, press the PULSE/STOP or ON/OFF button.
• When blending hot ingredients, always let them cool at least 5 minutes before blending. Before beginning to blend, remove the measuring cup lid insert and put it back with the opened side tilted away from you. Cover lid with a cloth to avoid splattering and only use the lowest speed. Do not blend more than 2 ½ to 3 cups at a time.
• Always operate the blender with the lid on the jar.
• Do not store foods in the blending jar.
8
• Do not overfill the blender (the blender is more efficient with less rather than more).
• Grinding with the mini jar for too long on low speed will overheat the machine and cause the Automatic Overload Protection to turn the machine off. To prevent overheating, use high speed to maximize the motor’s cooling fan and to achieve the most uniform consistency of grains and herbs.
• Grinding some dry material in the mini jar for more than 2 minutes could damage the appliance. Regular use over time may result in cosmetic damage to the container and may cause the blades to dull.
• Grinding some herbs may release oils that discolor the jar permanently.
• Grinding some herbs and spices may cause the container to crack.
• Always make sure the mini jar is completely dry before grinding herbs and beans.
DO NOT USE BLENDER TO BLEND:
• Large pieces of frozen foods
• Tough foods such as raw turnips, sweet potatoes and potatoes
• Bones
• Hard salami, pepperoni
• Boiling liquids (cool for 5 minutes before place in blending jar)
• Egg whites
• Dough
• Meats
