his time-saving test set is
what every cabling-system installer needs to locate, identify, and track cable.
The BLACK BOX
®
Designed for electrical, telephone, data, and security installers, the Tone Generator locates and identifies open cable pairs, individual conductors, and telephone wires to distances up to 5000 feet (1524 m).
A tone-selector toggle switch changes the mode of operation on the Tone Generator between continuous and alternating tones. This difference in tones eliminates confusion when more than one person is testing cables in the same area.
The tools you’ll need for locating,
identifying, and tracking wire and cable.
TONEGENERATOR & PROBE
The Tone Generator’s threecolored LED indicates line polarity, continuity, and voltage testing. The test set functions through low-resistance circuits and operates on a 9-VDC battery.
You can use the Tone Generator, for instance, to identify Tip and Ring. When the red test lead contacts the ring side of the line, the LED lights green. A red LED indicates reversed polarity; and a yellow LED indicates the presence of AC.
Or use it to indicate line condition, whether the line is clear, busy, or ringing.
The Probe, which works with the Tone Generator, is designed to identify and trace wires or cables within a group without damaging the insulation. The adjustable sensitivity level helps you zero in on cable groups, pairs, and individual wires. The Probe features a recessed terminal port
for connecting a lineman’s handset connection and, to prevent battery drain, a recessed ON/OFF button . A conductive carbon-fiber tip prevents accidental shorts when probing wires.
You can even adjust the Probe’s volume to suit the test environment. Volume can be increased to overcome noise (from vehicular traffic or an engine room, for example), or to decreased to reduce interference (computer/data hum or AC buzz).
Like the Tone Generator, the Probe draws its power from a 9-VDC battery. Its durable ABS plastic housing protects it when carried into the field.
