OVERVIEW
With the Parallel Printer Cable you can connect a standard
IBM
®
PC parallel port to most products with Centronics
®
interfaces. However, it does not support Pin 14, autofeed,
which some products’ components may require.
Parallel Printer Cable (18-Conductor)
These dot-matrix printer cables are our most popular
printer cables. Use them to connect the parallel port of a
computer to any standard dot-matrix printer. Choose from
straight hoods or right-angle connectors for tight spaces.
Laser Printer Cable (25-Conductor)
The Laser Printer Cable is used to connect the DB25 female
parallel port of an IBM or compatible PC to a Centronics
parallel interfaced printer.
Enhanced Parallel Port Cables
Enhanced Parallel Port Cables are built to the IEEE 1284
specification for bidirectional parallel ports.
IEEE 1284 specifies how to expand the functionality of a
PC by connecting a variety of high-performance peripherals
to the parallel port. Ordinary parallel port cables are not IEEE
1284 compliant, do not support 1284 data rates, obstruct
flawless connectivity, often degrade data, and are limited
to extremely short distances.
IEEE 1284 specifies three connector types and cable
electrical configurations. The connector types are DB25 male
and female (1284A), 36-position Centronics male (1284B), and
a mini 36-position Centronics male (1284C). The following
combinations are available:
• 1284A (male)/1284A (male)
• 1284A (male)/1284A (female)
• 1284A (male)/1284B
• 1284A (male)/1284C
• 1284B/1284C
• 1284C/1284C
These cables are ideal for bidirectional parallel printing.
PC/XT Serial Printer Cable (28 AWG)
This cable connects a PC with a male DB25 serial port
to a serial printer or plotter. It has fully molded hoods with
thumbscrews, and a 28-AWG, foil-shielded construction.
AT Serial Printer Cables
The BC00801 and BC01900 connect a PC with an AT style
DB9 serial port to a serial printer/plotter with a DB25 DTEconfigured port. These cables features fully molded hoods
with thumbscrews, and a 28-AWG, foil-shielded construction.
The EVMBPC connects the DB9 serial port on your AT
computer to the DB25 port on a serial printer. It features
nonmolded assemblies with removable hoods and crimped
contacts for convenient repinning.
It features a 24-AWG, foil-shielded construction with
a drain wire.
Flexi-Lite Cables
These super flexible, lightweight cables with slimline 90°
connectors are ideal for tight spaces where your PC is pushed
up against a wall. They’re compact and easy to carry, too—
perfect for notebooks!
Recognize any of these situations?
• You wait more than 30 minutes to get through
to a vendor’s tech support.
• The so-called “tech” can’t help you or gives you
the wrong answer.
• You don’t have a purchase order number and the
tech refuses to help you.
• It’s 9 p. m. and you need help, but your vendor’s
tech support line is closed.
According to a survey by Data Communications
magazine, 90% of network managers surveyed say
that getting the technical support they need is extremely
important when choosing a vendor. But even though
network managers pay anywhere from 10 to 20% of their
overall purchase price for a basic service and support
contract, the technical support and service they receive falls
far short of their expectations— and certainly isn’t worth
what they paid.
At Black Box, we guarantee the best value and the
best support. You can even consult our Technical Support
Experts before you buy if you need help selecting just
the right component for your application.
