T1 Rate Converters enable you to convert from V.35 or RS-530 to T1.
E1 Rate Converter enables you to convert from V.35 to E1.
T3 Rate Converter enables you to convert Ethernet or Fast Ethernet to unframed T3.
T1 and E1 units feature two techniques of line coding each and three methods of clocking.
T3 unit includes a builtin Ethernet bridge.
AC- and DC-powered models available, plus Rackmount Cards.

Two ways to T1 speed.
T1 Rate Converters support unframed operation, so you can take advantage of T1’s 1.544-Mbps speed in a single channel. Data transmission is synchronous and full duplex.
T1 transmission uses two techniques of line coding, either B8ZS or AMI. Line impedance is rated at 100 ohms across the T1 channel.
Clocking can be received from the T1 line, managed externally from the network device connected on the other end of the V.35 or RS-530 link, or performed internally from the converter’s oscillator.
For diagnostics, local analog loopbacks can be activated from the T1 or DTE interfaces. Three front-panel LEDs show when data is transmitted to the link, when

data is received from the link, and when no data is received from the link. A fourth LED indicates active loopback. A fifth LED shows when the unit is powered up.
Three models each are available for T1 to V.35 conversion and T1 to RS-530 conversion. Choose from AC- or DC-powered standalone units or Rackmount Cards. The Rackmount Cards fit in our RackNest 2/14 (Product Data
Sheet 19273).
Bring V.35 and E1 together.
The E1 Rate Converter is very similar to our T1 Rate Converters, but with two notable differences.
First, it employs HDB3 or AMI line coding for E1 transmission. Second, line impedance is rated at 120 ohms (balanced) and 75 ohms (unbalanced) across the E1 channel.
Conversion is between V.35 and 2.048-Mbps E1 only. Choose from two models, depending on your application’s power.
Making what’s fast even faster.
If you want to take interface conversion to extreme speeds, this Rate Converter can connect your 10-Mbps Ethernet or 100Mbps Fast Ethernet equipment to a single-channel 44.746-Mbps T3 service!
A built-in Ethernet bridge with VLAN support enables virtual LAN connections. The Rate Converter performs frame filtering and forwarding at the rate of 150,000 frames per second, and the bridge causes no LAN delays.
The T3 Rate Converter provides full control over multicast and broadcast messages. Autonegotiation enables a plug-and-play Ethernet connection without any additional configuration.
Front- and back-panel LEDs indicate Alarm Indication Signal (AIS) and Loss of Signal (LOS) line conditions and provide information and status of the Ethernet/Fast Ethernet link. Clocking either can be received from the T3 line or done internally by the converter’s oscillator.

Recognize any of these situations?
• You wait more than 30 minutes to get through to a vendor’s tech support.
• The so-called “tech” can’t help you or gives you the wrong answer.
• You don’t have a purchase order number and the tech refuses to help you.
• It’s 9 p.m. and you need help, but your vendor’s tech support line is closed.
According to a survey by Data Communications magazine, 90% of network managers surveyed say that getting the technical support they need is extremely
important when choosing a vendor. But even though network managers pay anywhere from 10 to 20% of their overall purchase price for a basic service and support contract, the technical support and service they receive falls short of their expectations— and certainly isn’t worth what they paid.
At Black Box, we guarantee the best value and the best support. You can even consult our Technical Support Experts before you buy if you need help selecting just the right component for your application.
Don’t waste time and money— call Black Box today.

T
3 is a T-carrier service that supports a maximum speed of
44.746 Mbps. It can support up to 672 individual DS0 channels (each with a speed of 64 kbps) or 28 individual DS1 channels (each with a speed of 1.544 Mbps).
The line coding for a T3 line is Bipolar Three Zero Substitution, or B3ZS. The framing formats available are M12/M23, M13, or C-Bit Parity.
