S
ave money on T1 costs while
enjoying high-speed data transfers. How? By using fiber optic cable and a pair of T1 Fiber Muxes!
The muxes combine four T1 channels over a single fiber optic link— that saves you the expense of multiple long-distance T1 runs by using a single fiber cable. Our 850-nm multimode model transmits up to nearly 7 miles (11.3 km), and our 1310-nm single-mode version transmits up to 30 miles (48.3 km)!
With fiber optic cable, your communications are secure. Plus, fiber is immune to EMI and RFI and can provide protection against harmful ground loops.
When you need to test the fiber connection or perform

diagnostics, you and another network operator can work at a mux on each end of the link and communicate back and forth with each other via a full-duplex voice service channel. Simply plug in a headset (included with each mux) to the mux’s front panel, push the Call button to alert your partner on the other end, and talk. It’s just that easy! And it doesn’t matter how much traffic is being sent over the link— your data will be transmitted as fast as ever at T1 rates because the voice service channel operates independently of network activity.
The T1 Fiber Muxes also feature comprehensive diagnostics that make sure everything’s running smoothly. Each of
the four T1 ports has its own indicators that show link status at a glance. If you have fewer than four lines running into a mux, you can disable alarm indications normally generated by an unused port. When you power up a mux, each unit performs an automatic test to local and remote loopbacks. You can also manage a mux by connecting its RS-232 port to an ASCII terminal.
Rackmount a T1 Fiber Mux using our T1/E1 Fiber Mux Rackmount Kit. Only 1U high, the Fiber Muxes take up minimal space inside a standard rack.
For high speed and security, a pair of T1 Fiber Muxes is your inexpensive solution for campus and enterprise networks.

I
f you manage a network with
heavy data traffic and you demand high bandwidth for high speeds, Black Box has what you need to send your data digitally over super-fast T1 or E1 communication lines.
Your global hook-ups.
Developed more than 30 years ago and commercially available since 1983, T1 and E1 go virtually anywhere phone lines go, but faster. T1 sends data at up to 1.544 Mbps. E1 supports
speeds up to 2.048 Mbps. No matter where you need to connect—the Americas, Europe, or Asia—T1 and E1 can get your data there fast!
Flexibility for many applications.
With T1 or E1, you can drive a private, point-to-point line; provide corporate access to the Internet; enable inbound access to your Web server—even support a voice/data/fax/video WAN that extends halfway around the world!
Technically Speaking
Both offer cost-effective connections.
In recent years, competition among telco service providers has made T1 and E1 services increasingly affordable. In fact, most companies seriously considering a shift to T1 or E1 find they can negotiate even better rates with just a little comparative cost analysis.
Typical applications include:
• Accessing public Frame
Relay networks or public
switched telephone networks for voice and fax.
• Merging voice and data traffic. A single T1 or E1 line can give you several additional voice and data lines at no additional cost.
• Making LAN connections. If you’re linking LANs, a T1 or E1 line offers excellent performance.
• Sending bandwidthintensive data such as CAD/CAM, MRI, CAT-scan images, and other graphics with large files.

iber Muxes XL are simple,
flexible, and cost-effective solutions for transporting multiple T1, E1, and Fast Ethernet highspeed data links at distances up to nearly 25 miles (40.2 km).
A Fiber Mux XL solution starts with a T1 or E1 base unit that has either an AC or DC power supply. The base unit features a fixed Ethernet port (Port A) and three other ports that you can configure to your needs. Ports B, C, and D
support hot-swappable modules and provide you with a scalable solution that’s flexible enough to meet the specific requirements of a broad range of applications. Outfit these three ports with 850or 1310-nm fiber modules, 4-channel T1 or E1 modules (choose from balanced or unbalanced E1 modules), or Fast Ethernet modules. See the chart below for a variety of configuration options.
All critical components can be automatically backed up. This ensures there is no single point of failure. Using two fiber modules, a Fiber Mux XL automatically switches over upon link failure.
Setup, control, and diagnostics can be performed via a supervisory port using an ASCII terminal or Telnet™, an SNMP management station via the Ethernet ports, or a dedicated separate Ethernet management port.
Mix and match modules to create a solution that’s right for your network.
Module available for T1 or balanced or unbalanced E1.
Rackmount Kit available.
