H
ere’s the economical way
to convert copper-based 10BASE-T Ethernet to multimode fiber-based 10BASE-FL.
For most applications, you get conversion just as effective as what you’d get from a repeater— but at a fraction of the cost.
This desktop-size converter enables you to connect shielded or unshielded twisted-pair 10BASE-T segments terminated with 8-pin RJ-45 plugs to 850-nm ST terminated cable for operation over duplex multimode fiber. The MicroConverter works with either standard or full-duplex Ethernet.
Use it, for instance, to attach 10BASE-T wiring to a hub-like device or to attach crossed wiring to a LAN port on a network interface card, router, or terminal server.
Economical, problem-free
media conversion. Now with
a universal power supply!
Key Features
Automatic polarity correction eliminates minor wiring headaches. Plus, it supports the maximum distances for both network types—100 meters (328 feet) for 10BASE-T and 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) for 10BASE-FL.
And you don’t have to worry about signaling violations. Those often come up, along with other problems, when repeaters are eliminated—but not with the MicroConverter.
Installing the MicroConverter is quick and straightforward. Just attach and plug in its power adapter, attach an active 10BASET cable’s RJ-45 connector, and attach active 10BASE-FL fiber ST connectors to the 10BASE-FL side. To connect to a 10BASE-T port labeled MDI (such as the port on the network card in a PC), you’ll
need a crossover cable. To connect to a 10BASE-T port labeled MDI-X (such as on hubs in wiring closets), you’ll need a straight-through cable, since the MDI-X connector is itself internally crossed over.
Troubleshooting is a breeze, too. Activity and Status LEDs keep you informed of performance on each interface. In addition, the converter’s Link Detect feature passes link-fault signals through to other devices. You can keep an eye on cable faults from your management station. That’s a feature you won’t find on ordinary media converters. It’s a perfect complement to our Mini FOIRL LD Transceivers (LE2127A-R3).
With the converter, you get a universal 110–230-VAC to 12-VDC external power supply.

Recognize any of these situations?
• You wait more than 30 minutes to get through to a vendor’s tech support.
• The so-called “tech” can’t help you or gives you the wrong answer.
• You don’t have a purchase order number and the tech refuses to help you.
• It’s 9 p. m. and you need help, but your vendor’s tech support line is closed.
According to a survey by Data Communications magazine, 90% of network managers surveyed say that getting the technical support they need is extremely
important when choosing a vendor. But even though network managers pay anywhere from 10 to 20% of their overall purchase price for a basic service and support contract, the technical support and service they receive falls far short of their expectations—and certainly isn’t worth what they paid.
At Black Box, we guarantee the best value and the best support. You can even consult our Technical Support Experts before you buy if you need help selecting just the right component for your application.
Don’t waste time and money—call Black Box today.
Why Buy From Black Box? Exceptional Value. Exceptional Tech Support. Period.
