Modular Automation System with ServSwitch Octet.
OVERVIEW
Suppose you need to link a large number of users over
CAT5, CAT5e, or CAT6 solid UTP cable to a variety of PS/2,
USB, Sun HD15, or serial RS-232/V.24 servers. When it’s
superior security that you want, along with extra-long
distance between servers and the attached users, choose the
ServSwitch Octet
™
. This ServSwitch also offers stellar system
control via the included Octoware IP access control software.
The KV1703A enables 4 users to access up to 16 CPUs;
the KV1700A enables 4 users to access up to 42 CPUs;
the KV1701A enables 8 users to access up to 32 CPUs;
the KV1702A enables 16 users access up to 64 CPUs.
For each CPU server that you attach to the ServSwitch,
you need one Server Access Module (SAM). Each SAM is a
small box with a pigtail cable attached that has keyboardvideo-mouse (KVM) connectors on the end. Simply connect
the KVM connectors on the SAM to the KVM connectors on
your PS/2, USB, Sun HD15, or serial RS-232/V.24 server.
Dual RJ-45 Server Access Modules with Audio/Serial RS-232
Support are also available for PS/2, USB, or Sun HD15. Use
one of these modules to connect two CPU servers to the
ServSwitch.
For each user that you attach to the system, you need
a Basic User Station (KV1711A-R2), an Enhanced-Video User
Station (KV1712A-R2), or a USB User Station with Serial/Audio
Support (KV1713A). When choosing a user station, keep in
mind that the basic model provides video resolution of up
to 1024 x 768 at up to 984.2 feet (300 m). If you need better
resolution, choose the enhanced-video model. It adjusts for
skew between RGB signals each time a switch is made to a
server, and it supports 1280 x 1024 video resolution at up to
984.2 feet (300 m). For audio/serial support, choose the USB
model.
At shorter distances, you get even better resolution. For
example, for all three user stations, the maximum resolution
at 328 feet (100 m) is 1600 x 1200 @ 75 Hz. All user stations
contain KVM connectors that attach to the KVM connectors
on the user’s PC.
You won’t spend a fortune on cable either because the
ServSwitch Octet operates over ordinary CAT5, CAT5e, or
CAT6 cable.
And power consolidation is an option, too. To provide
power for up to four serial RS-232/V.24 (KV1724A) SAMs,
order a power supply (PS123A).
To rackmount the ServSwitch Octet, use the included rackmount brackets. To rackmount the Basic, Enhanced-Video, or
USB User Stations, choose the 1U Rackmount Kit (RMK171X,
available separately).
