OVERVIEW
Regular unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) cable is fine for
most sites. It’s useful where the electronic-noise sources might
consist of a server or two, a laser printer, a few relatively
distant fluorescent lights, and somebody’s old desktop radio.
But you know that’s not going to work at your site. Maybe
you need to route your network cable next to an elevator, a
compressor, a belt-drive motor, or a big bank of fluorescents;
places where the electromagnetic and radio-frequency
interference (EMI/RFI) would wreak havoc with unshielded
cable.
Or maybe you need to run cable through Intensive Care,
or close to sensitive detection equipment. Unshielded cables
could themselves cause harmful interference in this
application.
Our Shielded Twisted-Pair (STP) cables are tailor-made for
these environments. The wires that carry data through these
cables are surrounded by a shielding layer of aluminumpolyester foil that keeps outside noise out and intrinsic noise
in, along with a drain wire that diverts interference to
ground. Even the cable plugs are shielded!
These four-pair cables meet or exceed all Category 5
standards. They’re ready for 100-Mbps data traffic whenever
you are. And, though there is no definitive EIA/TIA standard
for STP cabling, these cables are also built, pinned, and paired
to match every part of the EIA/TIA-568 UTP specifications.
The stranded-conductor, riser-rated version (EVNSL60) is
available in several stock lengths and in custom lengths as
well.
The solid-conductor plenum-rated version (EVNSL71) is
available in a wider variety of stock lengths. Call for a quote

on price, so buy in quantity and save!
TYPICAL APPLICATION
Run 100BASE-T cable closer to factory floors, labs, or your
airport’s generators and X-ray machines than you thought
possible.
Recognize any of these situations?
• You wait more than 30 minutes to get through
to a vendor’s tech support.
• The so-called “tech” can’t help you or gives you
the wrong answer.
• You don’t have a purchase order number and the
tech refuses to help you.
• It’s 9 p. m. and you need help, but your vendor’s
tech support line is closed.
According to a survey by Data Communications
magazine, 90% of network managers surveyed say
that getting the technical support they need is extremely
important when choosing a vendor. But even though
network managers pay anywhere from 10 to 20% of their
overall purchase price for a basic service and support
contract, the technical support and service they receive falls
far short of their expectations— and certainly isn’t worth
what they paid.
At Black Box, we guarantee the best value and the
best support. You can even consult our Technical Support
Experts before you buy if you need help selecting just
the right component for your application.
