2. Overview
2.1 Introduction
The 4K Modular Matrix Switcher 16 x 16 is a high-performance video and audio modu­lar matrix switcher. It supports different video signals with cross switching. Every video or audio signal is transmitted and switched independently to decrease signal attenuation. AVS1600 supports various changeable cards including HDMI, DVI, VGA, SDI, and HDBaseT etc, and all the cards support hot plug-and-play. Users can choose to insert different signal cards for different applications. AVS1600 has a power fail memory function and audio can break away from or follow the video to the switch. It has an RS-232 port for serial control and an optional IP port for TCP/IP control. It can be easily controlled by third-party devices.
With its flexible design, AVS1600 can be used for different projects and is all-in-one solution. Applications include multimedia conference rooms, control rooms, broadcast­ing rooms, shopping centers, etc. The AVS1600 handles all the audiovisual manage­ment, including the switching, driving, scaling, etc.

2.5.2 Changeable Cards
The AVS1600 supports expansion via various changeable input/output cards that use different signals including DVI, HDMI, VGA, twisted-pair, etc.
AVS-4I-DVI and AVS-4O-DVI
DVI signal cards. (See the specifications in Chapter 1.) These cards are compatible with HDMI1.3 and HDCP, but do not support analog signals. The cards use embedded EDID management technology and support DDC.
AVS-4I-DVI: input card with maximum four input signals. The input signal can pass to an output device through AVS-4O-DVI, or pass through other kinds of output cards.

AVS-4I-UNI
Seamless DVI signal card. (See the specifications in Chapter 1.) The card is fully compatible with HDMI1.3 and HDCP 1.4, and supports seamless transmission for high-definition DVI, HDMI, VGA, AV, and YPbPr signals. It can automatically identify the format of the input signal, and the output resolution can be adjusted. The card uses embedded EDID management technology, supporting DDC.

AVS-4I-VGA and AVS-4O-VGA
VGA signal card. (See the specifications in Chapter 1.) Scale all inputs to 1080p. Compatible with C-Video, YUV, YC (Factory preset function), the card supports RGBHV, RGsB, RGBS, RsGsBs, YUV, YC and Composite video.
AVS-4I-VGA: input card with a maximum of four VGA inputs and four stereo audio inputs. Input signal can pass to output device through any kinds of output cards.

AVS-4I-HDM and AVS-4O-HDM
4K HDMI signal card. (See the specifications in Chapter 1.) The card supports hot-plug, complies with HDMI 1.4 and HDCP 1.4 standards, is compatible with a DVI signal, supports a high-definition HDMI source up to 4K x 2K, complies with the 1080p 3D standard, and provides an auxiliary audio port as a supplement to HDMI embedded audio. It is also embedded with the EDID management technology.
AVS-4I-HDM: input card, with a maximum of four input signals. The input signal can pass to an output device through AVS-4O-HDM, or pass through other kinds of output cards.

AVS-4I-HDB and AVS-4O-HDB
4K Twisted pair card (HDMI/DVI extender). (See the specifications in Chapter 1.) The cards support hot-plug, HDTV, are compatible with HDBT 1.0, HDMI1.4a and HDCP1.4, support a wide resolution range from 480p to 4K x 2K, comply with the 1080p 3D standard, extend an HDBT signal up to 70 m at 1080p or 40 m at 4K, support bi-directional RS232 transmission on a single cable, and their auxiliary audio ports support a stereo signal. It is also embedded with the EDID management technology.
AVS-4I-HDB: Input card, with a maximum input of four HDMI TP signals. The input signal can pass to the output device through AVS-4O-HDB, or pass through other kinds of output cards that need to work with an HDBT transmitter.

4. Control Operations
4.1 Front Panel Button Control
Users can control the AVS1600 rapidly and directly with its front-panel buttons. Here is a brief operation guide to front panel buttons. Format: “Input Channel” + “Switch Mode” +“Output Channel”
NOTES:
1. Switch Mode: Audio and Video synchronized (AV) or separate switching mode
(Audio/Video).
2. Input Channel: This is the number of input channels to be controlled.
3. Output Channel: This is the number of output channels to be controlled. Press “All” to select all the outputs.
4. The input/output channels on the rear panel are counted from left to right, top to bottom.
5. The input delay time between two numbers of every input and output channel must be less than 5 seconds; otherwise, the operation will be cancelled.
Example:
1. To transfer input 1 to output 11, press input “1”, output “0” “1”.
2. To transfer signals from input 1 to all output channels, press buttons in this order:
“1”, “A l l”.
Functional Buttons:
UNDO button: return to the previous status.
Example: Input 6 is connected to output 6, press input “6” + “AV”+ output 4 to change the connection. Press “Undo” to enable input 6 to reconnect with output 6.
<— button: If you press buttons “1”, “AV”, “2”, “<—” in order, then “2” will be can­celed.
THROUGH button: Provides a straight I/O connection, e.g. input 1-> output 1, input 2-> output 2. Press “Input Channel”+”Through”
Example: If you press buttons “ALL”, “THROUGH” in order, then the result will be
input 1—>output 1, input 2—>output 2, input 3—>output 3 … input 8—>output 8.

4.2. IR Remote Control
Using the IR remote, you can control the AVS1600 remotely. The function buttons on the IR remote are the same with the ones on the front panel, and the IR remote shares the same operations and commands as the control panel. Press the buttons using this format: “Input Channel” + “Switch Mode” +“Output Channel”

4.3. RS-232 Control
4.3.1 Connecting the RS-232 Communication Port
Instead of the front control panel and IR remote, the AVS1600 can be controlled by a far-end control system or through the Ethernet via the RS-232 communication port. This RS-232 communication port is a female DB9 connector. Its pin layout is shown in the table below.

When the AVS1600 is connected to the RS-232 port of a computer with control software, you can control it via that computer. You need to use RS-232 control software.

Update built-in EDID data by sending the UpgradeIntEDID[x]. command.
Examples:
1. Transfer signals from an input channel to all output channels: [x]All.
Example: Send “3All.” to transfer signals from input 3 to all output channels.
2. Transfer all input signals to the corresponding output channels respectively: All#.
Example: If this command is carried out, the status of the matrix will be: 1->1, 2->2, 3->3, 4->4…… 8->8.
3. Switch off all the output channels: All$.
Example: After running this command, there will be no signals on all the outputs.
4. Switch off the detailed feedback command from the COM port: /:MessageOff;
The switch will retain “switch OK” as feedback when you switch the matrix.
5. Switch on the detailed feedback command from the COM port: /:MessageOn;
It will show the detailed switch information when it switches. Example: when switch 1->2, the feedback will be “AV01 to 02”.
6. Transfer signals from an input channel to corresponding output channel: [x]#.
Example: “5#.” to transfer signals from the input5 to the output5.
7. Switch off an output channel: [x]$. Example: “5$.” to switch off the output 5.
8. Switch signal: [x1] B[x2]. Example: “1B2,3,5.” to transfer signal from the input1 to the output No. 2,3,5.
9. Connect the input channel to the output channel [x]: Status[x]. Example: Send “Status2.” to connect the input channel to the output 2.
10. Connect the input channel to the output channels one by one: Status.
Example: “Status” to connect the input channel to the output channels one by one.
11. Save the present operation to the preset command [Y]: Save[Y].

NOTE: If there is an empty input card or output card slot, send the command “ALL#.” It
will show the result as 1->1, 2->2, 3->3, but actually there is no input/output sig­nal at this card.
4.4. TCP/IP Control (Optional)
4.4.1. Control Modes
TCP/IP default settings: IP is 192.168.0.178, Gateway is 192.168.0.1, and Serial Port is
4001. IP and Gateway can be changed as needed; Serial Port cannot be changed.

Connect a computer to the TP port of the AVS1600, and set its IP address and gateway to the same IP section as the default IP of the AVS1600 (192.168.0.178).

Controlled by PC(s) in LAN
The AVS1600 can be connected with a router to create a LAN with the PC(s). When controlled in a LAN, make sure the AVS1600’s IP section is the same as the router. Connect as shown in the following figure for LAN control.

Step 1. Connect the TCP/IP port of the AVS1600 to an Ethernet port of a PC with
twisted-pair cable.
Step 2. Set the PC’s IP address and gateway to the same IP setting as the AVS1600.
Remember the PC‘s original IP address and gateway.
Step 3. Set the AVS1600’s IP address and gateway to the same IP setting as the router.
Step 4. Set the PC’s IP address and gateway as the original one.
Step 5. Connect the AVS1600 and PC(s) to the router. In the same LAN, each PC is able
to control the AVS1600 asynchronously.
4.4.2. TCP/IP Settings
Step 1. Connect the TCP/IP port of the AVS1600 to an Ethernet port of a PC with
twisted-pair cable.
Step 2. Set the PC’s IP and gateway to the same IP section as the default IP of the
AV S16 0 0 (192.16 8.0.178 ) .
Step 3. Enter the http://192.168.0.178:100 to the Internet Explorer, and the LOGIN page
will appear.

Step 4. Enter user name “admin” and password “admin,” then click on the Enter
button on the screen. (DO NOT press the Enter key on your keyboard.) Then you can enter the configuration page to configure the IP port, including the IP reset, serial reset, and password reset, etc.
