These operating instructions intend to help you to familiarise
yourself better with the operating and the handling of
your wheelchair.

1. Important safety instructions

In order to avoid any accidents and dangerous situations
practice using your wheelchair on a flat and clearly visible
area. The presence of an accompanying person is recom­mended for this.

• Before you start using your wheelchair make sure that
all fitted parts are properly secured

• Never lift the wheelchair on parts which are not firmly
assembled (armrests or leg supports)

• Make sure that the screwing axle/full floating axle are
tightly in the axle holder, otherwise there is danger of
injuries/risk of injuries

• Please note that the risk of overturning can be increase
by the change of balance (e.g. strong movements of the
upper body or surmounting obstacles). The critical
obstacle height is 23 mm.

• Stairs and bigger obstacles must be surmounted only
with 2 accompanying people. Use the lifting points 1
and 2 (look at the overview of the wheelchair) If there
are facilities like –ramps, elevators or stair climbing aids
use them.

• When driving down slopes you must have in mind that
a risk of overturning exists already at 8 % (5 °). Therefore
it is recommended to use a tipping /turnover protection.

• Avoid driving against obstacles (steps, kerbs) or
bumping down from a higher level.

• Avoid driving on uneven loose underground.

• When surmounting obstacles (stairs etc.) you must have
an accompanying person with you. Use the tipping aid
to tip the wheelchair appropriately.

• When getting on or off the wheelchair both handbrakes
must be pulled.

• Take care of adequate depth of tread on your tyres.

• When using roads, the Highway Code must be observed.

• The wheelchair’s lightning must always be visible to
other road users.

• You must not use the handbrake to stop the wheelchair.

• When braking down on fast rides or on long slopes
using the wheel grips your fingers and palms get hot.
Attention! Danger of burning!

• We recommend the use of leather gloves for outdoor
rides. They offer a better grip and at the same time
protect your fingers and palms from dirt and injuries.

• When shifting between wheelchair and bed always

make sure

- to pull both parking brakes/hand brakes

- to swing the side part on the getting on and off side

backwardly

- to pull up the foot plates (when getting on and off)

swing them inside/outside or take them off.

2. Indications

Walking disability or distinct walking impairment due to:

• paralysis

• Loss of limb

• extremity defect/deformation

• joint stiffness/damage (not affecting both arms)

• Other diseases.

It is appropriate to supply strengthened wheelchairs when
the body weight of the handicapped person is more than
90 kg and an ordinary wheelchair doesn’t secure the
necessary safety any longer.

3. Purpose

The wheelchair was exclusively designed to increase mobility
and transport of people who have a walking disability
according to the mentioned indications.

We can only offer a guarantee if the product is used under
the given conditions and for the designed purposes.

4. Declaration of conformity

As manufacturer of the product, B+B declare that the
“S-Eco 2” wheelchair complies fully with the requirements
of the European Directive 93/42/EWG (EEC) for medical
products.

The wheelchair is delivered in a special cardboard
packaging and the full contents are:

• 1 folded wheelchair

• 1 air pump

• a booklet of operating instructions

• 1 set of tools (3 hexagon socket screws SW4, SW5,

SW6, cross slot screwdriver, 2 ring spanners SW8/10,
SW 10/13

All B+B wheelchairs are submitted to a regulation final
check on our premises and have the CE mark applied to
them.

The B+B wheelchairs are folded and delivered in a cardboard
packaging. The delivery and the introduction to the wheel­chair are carried out by qualified and authorised medical
companies.

When dispatching the wheelchair by rail or carriage it has
to be checked immediately after arrival in the delivery person’s
presence in order to confirm the safe delivery of the product.

In the unlikely case that there has been some damage,
proceed as follows:

• Make a written record of the situation.

• Draw up a declaration of assignment; all claims arising

out of the damage are assigned to the party delivering
the product.

• Return the written record of the situation, the freight

waybill and the declaration of assignment to Bischoff &
Bischoff GmbH

5. Overview of product and

parts supplired

In the event of damage in transit:

1. In all circumstances, leave the product and packaging
as it is and do not yet use the product.

2. Notify the damage to the carrier in writing, as indicated
below.

3. Then contact our Customer Service number:
+ 49 (0)700/6000 7070.

4. To allow claims for damage to be notified to transportation
insurance companies, the authorised agents of the carrier
affecting the delivery must be informed in good time of
any damage. Any external damage or parts which can
be seen to be missing must be noted on the accompanying
documents by the party delivering the product before
the shipment is accepted.

Concealed damage which only comes to light on unpacking
must be notified to the carrier immediately, in writing.

It is essential to observe certain set periods:

• Package delivery service and Post office
within 24 hours

• Rail delivery
within 7 days

• Carriers
within 4 days

Bischoff & Bischoff GmbH (Ltd) require the original docu­ments accompanying the shipment with confirmation of
the damage. Without these documents, no settlement may
be provided by the insurance company in respect of the
damage!

7. Assembly/adjustments

7.1. Folding and unfolding

Delivery

Your new B+B wheelchair is delivered assembled and
folded in a original carton by B+B.
To avoid damages during the transportation, parts which
have to be stuck on are separately delivered.

Unfolding

Put your wheelchair next to you. Tip it as far as necessary to
relieve the drive wheel. (picture 3) Now push with you flat
hand the seat pipe which is closer to you and in this way
unfold the wheelchair (picture 4)

When unfolding your wheelchair make sure that
your fingers stay on the seat belt. Otherwise danger of
trapping!

Folding

Put your B+B wheelchair next to you. Tip it on the backseat
so far towards yourself until the opposite drive wheel is
released. At the same time you pull the seat cover upwards
until the chair is completely folded. (Picture 5)

To avoid injuries do not hold the armrests while
tipping your wheelchair over. If there are leg supports
you have to lift up the foot plates before that.

7.2. Leg supports

Leg support with foot plate

Both leg supports arrive assembled with the foot plates.
You can lift up the foot plates on both leg supports in
sitting position.

Assembling the leg supports

Hold the leg supports on the upper part and put them
into the leg support holder pointing outwardly. Swing the
leg support to the frontal position until it snaps.(picture 6)

Removing the leg supports

To transport your wheelchair as compact as possible you
can completely remove the leg supports together with the
foot plates. (Picture 7)

• Pull the button, in this way the lock is opened.

• While you keep pulling the button you can swing the
leg supports outwardly and remove them.

Swinging the leg supports

To make it easy for you to get on and off the wheelchair
you can fold up the foot plates or swing the leg supports
outside or inside without to remove them. (picture 7)

Before you start driving your wheelchair make
sure that the leg supports are firmly fixed.

• Pull the button, in this way the lock is opened.

• Now you can wing/pivot the leg supports outwardly or
inwardly

• If necessary you can lift the foot plates before that.

To get back to the original state just swing the leg supports
frontally until they snap in.

Adjustment of the leg support
length

The length of the leg support can be directly adjusted for
12 cm. To do this you have to undo the socket-head cap
screw ( hexagon socket 5 mm) and adjust the leg support
according to your choice. (picture 8)

The maximum extension length is marked!

When you get off your wheelchair you must not
step on the foot plate under no circumstances!

7.3. Side parts/sections

Swinging the side parts

To make it easier to get on and off the wheelchair both
side parts with the armrests can be swung backwards.

Use the lock device lever (picture 9) pressing it gently
with your finger and at the same time swing the side part
backwardly.(picture 10)

Locking the side parts

To lock the side part, fold it forward and let it snap in the
armrest with a gentle push. (picture 11)

Make sure that while you pivot the side parts no
garments or implements can be caught! Before
you use the wheelchair for the first time, check
whether the side parts are tightened well.

Never use the side parts to carry the wheelchair!

7.4. Brakes

Using the elbow lever parking
brake (Compact brake)

To use the brake just push the brake lever forward until it
snaps. (Picture 12)
To loosen the brake, pull the lever backwards (picture 13)

If you should notice any unusual braking behaviour you
have to do the following:

• First check the tyres for adequate air pressure. There
should be a pressure of 300- 400 k Pa (3-4 bars)
(does not apply to tyres which are brake down safe.)

• Check the tread depth. Pay attention to whether there
is even abrasion. If the tread depth is > than 1 mm, the
tyres must be replaced by the specialist dealer.

• Now check the adjustments of the brake. It must be
adjusted in the way that there is a distance between
the running surface of the wheel and the pivot bolt of
15 mm when brakes are open. The pivot bolt must be
horizontal e.g. parallel to the ground.

• After loosening both lens head screws with hexagon
socket screws (5 mm) at the brake mounting (picture

14) you can adjust the brakes to the correct position.

In order to ensure optimal brake functioning
pneumatic wheels should have a pressure of 300­400 k Pa (3-4 bars). If the air pressure in the
tyres is not according to the regulations then
there is a danger of brake function loss.

The compact brakes affect only one driving wheel
at a time.

Pay attention to have the same air pressure of the
driving wheels to achieve a directional stability.

After finishing the adjustments re-tighten the
screws and test your brakes.

The brake system should be adjusted only by
authorised specialist dealers.

General matters

Since the brake represents one of the most impor­tant safety devices of your wheelchair it is possible
to get a drum brake to correspond with the desire
of the accompanying person to have an operating
brake system.

The drum brake can be used both as a handbrake
as well as a driving brake.

Since the brake shoe of the drum brake does not
influence the tyre but the brake drum in the
wheel hub, this kind of braking device does not
depend on the condition of the tyres (air pressure)
and is therefore much safer.

7.5. Wheels and tyres

The spoked wheels are tightened with a power socket
wrench (M12) on the chassis suspension.

Drive wheels

Your „S-Eco 2“ has puncture-proof PU tyres with tubes size
24x1³/4“ as standard equipment. The tyres must be repla-
ced by your authorised dealer when they are worn or faul­ty.

Steering Wheels

Your S-Eco 2 has standard equipment consisting of break­down safe tyres (without a valve) 7“ in diameter.
Faulty or worn out wheels must be changed by an authori­sed specialist dealer.

To achieve optimal braking safety of your wheel­chair, the air pressured turnover wheels must have
an air pressure of 200- 250 k pa (2-2, 5 bar).

Make sure that when you put it up that the full
floating axle goes as far as possible!

After you have put the wheel in its place, check
whether the wheel fits well by pulling it toward
you without using the brake lever button on the
full floating axle!

8. Options

8.1. Full floating axle

In order to make the transport of your wheelchair easier
there is an option to equip the wheels with full floating
axles.

The model with the full floating axles makes it possible
that the wheels can be removed without any tools. The
principle is quite simple:

• Push the brake lever button of the full floating axle
with your finger and remove the wheel. (Picture 18).

• When you want to mount the wheel back just insert it
on the holder. You also have to push the brake lever
button when doing so.

8.2. Horizontally adjustable
leg supports

Assembling, disassembling, deviating and adjustment of
the leg supports and the leg support extension are described
in chapter 7.2.

The horizontal adjustment functions as follows (look at
picture 19, 20):

• Press lever forward

• Put the leg supports in the position you want by lifting
or lowering the foot plate stretcher pipe.

• Release the lever. The leg support locks on its own.

Make sure that both leg supports are adjusted
to equivalent height and that the adjusting
screws are tightened!

8.3. Drum Brakes

Using the drum brakes by the
accompanying person

To stand still, just pull down the brake lever and the
locking device. (Picture 21)
To stop the hand brake, just pull the brake levers shortly.
The locking device loosens automatically. (Picture 21)

Adjustment of the drum brakes

The basic adjustment of the drum brake is carried out on
the rope clamping screw. (Picture 22)

The final adjustments are carried out with an adjusting
nut on the brake cable. If the adjusting nut is turned up,
the braking efficiency is increased.

In order to ensure optimal brake function the

brake function loss!

Make sure that the drive wheels have the same
air pressure to achieve directional stability.

Drum brakes get worn out as well. If the brea­king performance is reduced the wheelchair
must be withdrawn from circulation. To avoid
this because of safety reasons your braking device
should be checked by authorised specialist dealers
every six months!

After the adjustments have been carried out
tighten all the screws and perform a brake test!

In general

The adjustment of the brake system should be
only carried out by authorised specialist dealers!

8.4. Height adjustable
side parts

It is possible to equip your S-Eco wheelchair with height
adjustable side parts. (only long version). The height
adjustable side parts can be pivoted and are secured by a
hexagon socket screw (6 mm) secured to avoid slipping
out. The side part is removable and swivel-mounted
(picture 24).

Height adjustment:

• Use the stop lever to adjust the armrest to the desired
position. (75 mm 3 levels of 25mm each, picture 25)

• When you have reached the desired position just let off

the lever. The locking device snaps in then.

• The height adjustment was chosen correctly if the sup

ported forearm forms a right angle with the
upper arm and forearm.

8.5. Height adjustment of

the pushing handles

The assembly instruction for the pushing handles is delivered
separately when ordered.

9. Asseccories

9.1. Tip protection/
tip protection rolls

To assemble the tip protection proceed as follows:

• First detach the rubber profiles of the tilt aid from the
frame.

• Push the round profile of the anti tipping rolls on the
side frame pipe.

• Now bolt the tilt protection with a screw M 6 x 35 and
a self-locking nut M6 in the designated drilling on the
frame.

9.2. Therapy table

If the side parts have long padded armrest then the table
is attached on the provided guides in front of the armrest
(picture 27). If you want to remove the therapy table just
pull it out. At “Desk” side parts with padded armrest the
table is put on with accompanying guides and is fastened
with star knob screws (picture 27). To remove the therapy
table first unfasten the star screws and then pull out the
table.

Always use the anti-tilt mechanism in pairs.

9.3. Safety belt

If needed, you can get a safety belt as an accessory. It is
mounted on the temporarily removed or swung over side
part on the side frame of your wheelchair. (Picture 28)
Put the open end of the belt around the side frame pipe
and fix it with the belt buckle.

The adjustment of the belt length is also carried out with
the belt buckle. Adjust the belt length so that it is tight,
but that it does not pinch.

10. Driving

Position yourself in the seat of your B+B wheelchair. Ensure
that you are sitting as far back in the seat as possible.

You can move using the gripping wheels on the drive wheel.
Be careful when taking your first rides until you get used to
your new wheelchair and how it functions.

Wheelchairs have just limited tipping or slipping security.
You have to be extra careful when braking, approaching or
turning round on slopes or downward slopes. If you lean for­ward too much this increases the danger of tipping. To make
your wheelchair safer, all wheelchairs can be equipped with
a seat belt (not standard equipment).

To surmount obstacles easier, the accompanying person
must bring the wheelchair in the right angle to the obstacle,
by pushing the foot on the tipping aid. (Picture 29).

Before you get on or off your wheelchair you
have to pull your handbrake. You should drive
outside your flat only if you have enough driving
experience. If possible another person should
accompany you.

! The static stability of the basic model is 5° (ca. 8 %)

The critical obstacle height at the basic model in unfavou­rable situations is 23 mm (maximum centre of gravity shift)

The critical obstacle height is the height in which the
centre of gravity (with the user) is right vertical over the
obstacle rim. If the user tries to put the wheelchair with
the help of the driving wheels on the obstacle without
having shifted the centre of gravity forwardly, the wheel­chair will tip over backwardly.

According to the Road Traffic Act 66/1 of 1st January
1981, hand driven wheelchairs which take part in public
road traffic (even on pavements) must have lighting.

It consists of (passive)

• 2 red lights on the back

• 2 yellow lights on the side (On both sides).

If you use the wheelchair after nightfall you need additional
lights (active)

• a white light at the front

• a red light at the back

The functioning of these lights must be assured through a
driving independent electrical circuit (batteries)

12. Transport

12.1 Transporting the
wheelchair

To make the wheelchair as convenient as possible to trans­port, all detachable parts (footrests, wheels, slot-in acces­sories) must be removed and the wheelchair folded.

12.2 Seat in disabled vehi­cle

You can check whether your wheelchair is licensed as a
seat in a disabled vehicle by the symbols on the frame (Fig.
A and Fig. B).

All wheelchairs authorised by B+B as seats for use in vehi­cle are tested to ISO 7176-19: 2008.

• The securement points are marked with a symbol (Fig.
A). Other attachment points are not authorised by the
manufacturer.

•Where possible, use a fixed fitted car seat and its seat­belt system. Stow the folded wheelchair in the boot.

•The person responsible for transportation should be
familiar with the current regulations on transportation
and use of the disabled vehicle and restraint system.

• 4-point restraint systems anchored to the vehicle must
be used to restrain the wheelchair.

•Detachable parts and accessories on the wheelchair,
such as trays and bags, should, where possible, be
removed and safely stowed in the boot.
If attachments are not detachable they must be folded
away and secured by the user or adequately padded.

•When used as a seat in a disability vehicle, a 3-point
safety belt must always be worn. Other fixation systems
and straps may be used in addition.

•If your wheelchair has an adjustable backrest or seat,
these must be placed in as vertical a position as
possible and the locking mechanism checked.

•Products that have been involved in an accident must
be replaced and are no longer licensed to transport
people.

Positioning of wheelchair

• Position the wheelchair facing forwards (Fig. C).

Check whether the straps conform to the angles in Fig. D.

Attachment to vehicle floor

Rails (Fig. E)

Insert fitting into rail at an angle and then pull in side­ways. Detach the fittings by pulling on the snap ring.

Mono System (Fig. F)

Place mono-fitting flat on the base plate and pull over the
base plate. Detach the mono-fittings by pulling down
from the base plate.

Attachment to wheelchair

Attachment to the wheelchair may be by securement
points(Fig. G) or tie-down system (Fig. H ) to the labelled
points.

Under no circumstances attach the strap to the footrests
or other detachable parts.

Tensioning and loosening the straps

•Tension using handle (Fig. I)

•Loosening using lever or alternatively by releasing the

belt tongue from the belt buckle (Fig. J).

Safety belt

The safety belt must run at an angle of between 30° and
75° to the horizontal (Fig. K), with a larger angle being
preferable. It must fit low on the pelvis.

Make sure that the belt lies flat and is not twisted at any
point.

The lap belt must be attached on both sides to the rear
securement points. To close the lock, insert the tongue into
the buckle. It clicks into place. The lock is opened by pres­sing the large button.

The safety belt should fit firmly but not cut in. To tighten
the belt pull on the loose end of the belt. You can further
adjust the belt by pushing the clasp forwards in the open
position.

The shoulder belt hooks into the lap belt. It must fit close
to the body across the pelvis, chest and over the shoulder.

Place the clasp in front of the occupant's body, not on the
pelvic bone! The clasp must be positioned in such a way
that, in the event of an accident, it cannot be accidentally
released by attachments.

In order to be able to remove the belt quickly in the event
of an accident, a seat belt cutter like this (Fig. N) should
be kept in every vehicle.

13. Storage/dispatch

If the wheelchair is going to be stored or transported all

15. Disposal

Even wheelchairs which are not useable any longer are a
valuable material source which can be returned to the
industrial cycle. Do not throw the wheelchair you want to
dispose into household garbage. Let it be disposed by a
disposal company. Your local waste management organi­zation will give you the relevant information. The environ­ment will be grateful for it.

As well as all technical products should be submitted for
inspection regularly by authorised experts, the same applies
for vehicles for ill people, driveable walking aids and
hospital beds. The function of these inspections is to assure
the safety of the user. In this way perfect functioning even
after long usage can be guaranteed.
We have worked out a few care suggestions, a hygiene
plan as well as a maintenance chart which you can find
below. We hope to have given you a good overview of the
most important care, hygiene and maintenance jobs.

a) Care instructions

The seat and back cushions can be washed with warm
water using a sponge or a soft brush. If there are stubborn
stains you can add a mild detergent to the water.

Do not use aggressive detergents like solvents or scrubbing
cleanser or hard bristles.

Plastic parts are best cleaned with usual plastic cleaners.

Thanks to the quality surface coat optimal corrosion
prevention is provided. If the varnishing is scratched you
can mend the defective/faulty spots with a lacquer pen.
Parts made of chrome have to be dryly rubbed off first.
Dull spots as well as heavily clung dirt can be best removed
with the usual cleaning products.

If there are complaints you have to provide a completed
certificate of guarantee. For our folded wheelchair “S-Eco 2”
