QUICK START GUIDE

DESCRIPTION
GPR+ is a universal portable reader for RFID PIT tags with the purpose of identifying animals.
The device can read a wide range of technologies: FDX­B ISO, HDX ISO and FDX-A (FECAVA). GPR+ can also read and display the PIT Tag when reading PIT tags with the Biomark BioTherm13 temperature sensing tags.
In addition to its PIT tag reading functions, the GPR+ scanner can store up to 3000 IDs in its internal memory, each associated with a time/date stamp, in its internal memory and transmit them to a PC via an USB cable or wirelessly using Bluetooth®.
The GPR+ is supplied with the PIT tag Management Software which enables user to download the reader’s memory, change the scanner settings or update the GPR+ firmware. It is available for download at

GETTING STARTED
GPR+ comes supplied with six AAA rechargeable NiMH batteries which must be fully charged prior to use, as diagram below (step 1 through 3).
If preferred, six standard AAA alkaline batteries can also be used and should not be charged (follow only step 1).
Step 1 – Remove retention screw located on bottom back of GPR+. Place batteries according to polarity
indicators.
Replace lid and screw.
WARNING! BATTERIES MUST BE INSTALLED AS PICTURED TO AVOID EXCESSIVE HEAT OR POTENTIAL FOR PERMANENT DAMAGE TO THE READER WHILE CHARGING
Step 2 – Remove USB plug and attach cable to GPR+.
Step 3 – Plug the adaptor into power outlet. The battery level icon will flash while charging and stop flashing when fully charged. A full charge will take approximately 3 hours.
DO NOT MIX RECHARGEABLE AND STANDARD BATTERIES
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CHARGE STANDARD ALKALINE BATTERIES.
CHARGE THE BATTERIES INDOORS ONLY AND BETWEEN 0°C AND 40°C.
To extend battery life, charge unit at least every three months, if reader is unused.
READING PIT TAGS
When scanning for PIT tags PRESS AND HOLD BUTTON DOWN during procedure. The reader will display “SEARCHING”.
Test reader by placing test chip provided on key chain. If PIT tag number is not detected, consult USER MANUAL. Do not attach key chain to reader.
If a PIT tag is detected, the number will appear on the display. If a PIT tag is not detected it will display “NO ID FOUND”.
Keep the scanner as close to the animal or item as possible and move slowly over standard locations for the particular species.
Note 1 – PIT tag placement may vary per animal.
PIT TAG MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE
GPR+ scanner comes with PIT tag Management Software only for Windows® operating system. Please refer to PIT tag Management Software User Guide to install the tool on your PC.

READER SETTINGS IN PIT TAG MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE
GPR+ is delivered with Memory and Bluetooth® enabled.
These options can be disabled through the PIT tag Management Software, as in diagram below:
TROUBLESHOOTING
PIT tag not detected: Confirm that it is being
operated distant from metal objects and computer equipment, including metal objects, such as collar with metal objects and stainless steel tables.
Memory cannot be downloaded: Make sure
memory is enabled in reader settings (refer to PIT tag Management Software User Guide for more information).
Bluetooth not visible: Check if Bluetooth icon
appears on the display. If not, enable Bluetooth by using PIT tag Management Software.
Bluetooth visible but not connectable: Make sure
your reader is configured to be visible and connectable in PIT tag Management Software (refer to PIT tag Management Software User Guide for more information).
Incorrect date/time: Connect reader to PIT tag
Management Software. This will synchronize the date and time with the computer.

WARRANTY
The Global Pocket Reader Plus is warranted against defects in materials and workmanship, under normal use and service for two (2) years from the day of shipment.
This warranty will not apply if adjustment, repair or parts replacement is required because of accident, neglect, damage during transportation or causes other than ordinary use.
Manufacturer’s sole responsibility under this warranty shall be at its option, to either repair or replace any product which fails during the warranty period. In no event shall Manufacturer be liable for any indirect or consequential damages or loss of profit.
