Congratulations
You will soon be experiencing the latest in Wi-Fi enabled energy saving devices! Use these BERT-110 plugs to turn your lights and office equipment off and on automatically. You will enjoy the convenience, safety and savings of home and office automation in ways that were previously reserved for expensive automation systems. Follow these few easy steps, and your Bert plug will be managing electrons in no time!

Before you begin
You will need the following:
BERT-110 plug Available 110VAC wall plug for BERT 110 plug Vista/Windows 7 computer with Wi-Fi available Wireless router with WEP (128 bit), WPA/WPA2 or unsecured Router network name (SSID) and security key
Plug in the BERT-110 plug
1. Plug a single BERT-110 plug into a standard 110VAC wall
outlet
2. Plug a desired appliance, lamp, or other electronic device
into the BERT-110 3-prong receptacle.
This quick start guide is intended to configure and utilize a single BERT-110 unit. For multiple unit configuration, advanced setup and scheduling, please refer to the full user's manual.
Download the Bertbrain 1000 software
1. Using available Internet access, go www.bertbrain.com.
2. Click the software download link as shown.
3. Complete the online registration form and then login to the
Bertbrain registered user area:
http://www.bertbrain.com/registered-support
4. Click the Vista/Windows 7 link to start downloading the
Bertbrain 1000 software. The software will automatically download to your selected download location.

Install the Bertbrain 1000 software
1. Locate the downloaded Bertbrain 1000 software file:
Bertbrain 1000 (W7) Setup (Version 1.x.x).exe
2. Click the Bertbrain 1000 executable software file and follow these installation
steps through the prompts.
User Account Control prompt
Click Yes
WinZip Self-Extractor - Bertbrain 1000 prompt
Click Setup
Bertbrain 1000 Setup SQL Server Compact license (if necessary)
Click Accept
The computer will download files and install SQL Server Compact (as needed)
Select Installation Folder - Leave default settings
Click Next
Confirm Installation at prompt
Click Next
Bertbrain 1000 - Initial Configuration prompt screen
Type your name in (optional)
Enter Name
Select Yes to Auto-Start Bertbrain 1000
Select Yes
Leave advanced options alone
Click Ok
The computer will finish installation automatically
Installation complete prompt
Click Close

Configure BERT-110 unit
1. Locate the Bertbrain application using the Bertbrain 1000 shortcut icon on the computer desktop or

2. Follow these BERT-110 network configuration steps:

Click Yes
Bertbrain 1000 congratulations page- Read Step 4
Click Click here to start the Wizard
Enter Wi-Fi network settings
SSID (Router's network name)
Enter router's name
Reenter SSID
Reenter router's name
Select security mode
Select WPA/WPA2 or WEP or Unsecured
Enter security key
Enter WPA/WPA2 or WEP key
Reenter security key
Reenter WPA/WPA2 or WEP key
Complete Wi-Fi information
Click Next
Follow Bert Setup Wizard instructions to configure BERT-110
Place BERT-110 units in ad-hoc mode following on-screen guidance
Click Next
Begin automatic BERT-110 setup
Click Start Automatic Setup
Stop automatic setup after BERT-110 units successfully configured
Click Stop Automatic Setup
Close Bert Setup Wizard
Click Close
3. BERT-110 unit information appears in the detected
window as units are automatically detected (right).
4. BERT-110 units are automatically programmed with
network settings after they are detected. Successfully programmed BERT-110 will be listed in the processed window as a Success.
5. Continue the automatic setup until all BERT-110s are
configured. Click Close when setup is complete.

Control BERT-110 with Bertbrain 1000
Your computer needs to have access to the same wireless network that you assigned to the BERT-110 unit.
1. After Bertbrain 1000 launches, it may take it a few
moments to prepare its network connections and communicate with the BERT-110 over your wireless network.
2. Congratulations! Your BERT-110 can now be controlled
with Bertbrain 1000. You will now see your BERT-110 on the main Bertbrain 1000 Device Control page.
3. Your BERT-110 may automatically update its firmware
when running Bertbrain 1000 for the first time.
4. For fun, click Power OFF or Power ON to power cycle
the connected appliance, lamp or electronic device. You will observe that the device plugged into your BERT-110 is now controlled over your wireless network!
Schedule BERT-110 with Bertbrain 1000
1. Now the BERT-110 can be named, customized and
scheduled to turn off and on anytime. Move your mouse over the BERT-110 plug and Right mouse click.
2. Click Configure Bert.
3. Click Change Name to rename your BERT-110 plug.
4. Click Schedule this Bert to create an automated power
on/power off cycle for your BERT-110.
5. Click Add On or Off Event and build a desired schedule
for your BERT-110. Click Ok when you are done.
6. Bertbrain 1000 will ask for a confirmation and then
download the new power schedule to the BERT-110 plug. The BERT-110 will continue to run its programmed schedule until the schedule is changed.
7. Continue to experiment with scheduling, naming and
controlling the power of the BERT-110 over your wireless network. As you become more advanced with the plug, you can program electrical load information for the device and generate power saving reports.
Refer to the BERT-110 User Manual for descriptions on all advanced BERT-110 operational features, power reporting, and group controls that support the management of hundreds of BERT-110 plugs on a single network.
