The Bergman® 2-in-1 hedge cutter and trimmer is intended for the cutting of hedges, shrubs,
branches and grass coverings in private domestic gardens and allotments. If used for purposes other
than those intended, it will invalidate your guarantee.

operating instructions must not use the Bergman® Long reach lopper and trimmer.
Persons with reduced physical or mental abilities may use the long reach lopper
and trimmer only if they are supervised, or instructed by a responsible person.

Save all warnings and instructions for future reference. The term “power tool” in
the warnings refers to your main operated (corded) power tool or battery operated
(cordless) power tool.

General power tool safety warnings
Work Area Safety
Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable
liquids, gasses or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust of fumes.
Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you
to lose control.
Electrical Safety
Power tools must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any
adaptor plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets
will reduce the risk of electric shock.
Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and
refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will
increase the risk of electric shock.

Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool.
Keep cord away from heat, oil , sharp edges or moving parts. Damages or entangled cords
increase the risk of electric shock.
When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use
of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
If operating a power tool in damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD)
protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.
Personal safety.
Say alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operation a power tool. Do
not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or
medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious
personal injury.
Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such a
dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used for appropriate
conditions will reduce personal injuries.
Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connection to
power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with
your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on, invites accidents.
Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or key left
attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of
the power tool in unexpected situations.
Dress properly. Do not wear lose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves
away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure
these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.
Power tool use and care.
Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct
power tool will do the job better and sager at the rate for which it was designed.
Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on or off. Any power tool that cannot
be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool
before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such
preventative safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with
the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in
the hands of (idiots) untrained users.
Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts
and any other condition that may affect the power tools operation. If damaged, have the
power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges
are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking
into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for
operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.

Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement
parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.
Chainsaw 2-in-1 safety warnings.
Keep all parts of the body away from the chainsaw when it is operating. Before you start the
chainsaw, make sure that it is not in contact with anything. A moment of inattention while
operation chainsaws may cause entanglement of your clothing or body with the chainsaw.
Always hold the chainsaw with your right hand on the rear handle and your left hand on the
front handle. Holding the chainsaw with a reversed hand configuration increases the risk of
personal injury and should never be done.
Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces only, in case the cutter blades make
contact with hidden wiring or its own power cord. Cutter blades contacting a “live” wire may
make exposed metal parts of the power tool “live” and could give the operator an electric
shock.
Wear safety glasses and hearing protection. Further protective equipment for heads, hands
legs and feet is recommended. Adequate protective clothing will reduce personal injury by
flying debris or accidental contact with the chainsaw.
Do not operate a chainsaw in a tree. Operation of a chain saw while up in a tree may result in a
personal injury.
Always keep proper footing and operate the power tools only when standing on a fixed,
secure and level surface. Slippery or unstable surfaces such as ladders may cause a loss of
balance or control of the chainsaw.
When cutting a limb that is under tension, be alert for spring back. When the tension in the
wood fibres is released the spring loaded limb may strike the operator and/or throw the
chainsaw out of control.
Carry the chain saw or hedge trimmer by the front handle with the chainsaw switched off and
away from your body. When transporting or storing the chainsaw or hedge trimmer always fit
the guide bar cover. Proper handling of the chainsaw or hedge trimmer will reduce the
likelihood of accidental contact with the moving chainsaw.
Follow instructions for lubricating, chain tensioning and changing accessories. Improperly
tensioned or lubricated chine may either break or increase the chance for kickback.
Keep handles dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Greasy, oily handles are slippery causing
loss of control.
Cut wood only. Do not use chainsaw for purposes not intended. For example: do not use
chainsaw for cutting plastic, masonry or non-wood building materials. Use of the chainsaw for
operations different than intended could result in a hazardous situation.
Causes and operator prevention of kickback:
Kickback may occur when the nose or tip of the guide bar touches an object, or when the wood
closes in and pinches the chainsaw in the cut.
Tip contact, in some cases, may cause a sudden reverse reaction, kicking the guide bar up and back
towards the operator.
Pinching the chainsaw along the top of the guide bar may push the guide bar rapidly back towards
the operator.
Either of these reactions may cause you to lose control of the saw which would result in serious
personal injury. Do not rely exclusively upon the safety devices built in to your saw. As a chainsaw
user, you should take several steps to keep your cutting jobs free from accident or injury.

Kickback is the result of tool misuse and/or incorrect operating procedures or conditions and can be
avoided by taking proper precautions as listed below:
Maintain a firm grip, with thumbs and fingers encircling the chainsaw handles, with both
hands on the saw and position your body an arm to allow you to resist kickback forces.
Kickback forces can be controlled by the operator, if proper precautions are taken. Do not let go
of the chainsaw.
Do not overreach and do not cut above shoulder height. This helps prevent unintended tip
contact and enables better control of the chainsaw in unexpected situations.
Only use replacement bars and chains specified by the manufacturer. Incorrect replacement
bars and chains may cause chain breakage and/or kickback.
Follow the manufacturer’s sharpening and maintenance instructions for the chainsaw.
Decreasing the depth gauge height can lead to increased kickback.
Safety instructions and accident prevention.
The safety instructions must be observed when using the Bergman® long-reach lopper and trimmer.
For your own safety and the safety of others, please read this information carefully before using the
chainsaw or hedge trimmer and keep is in a safe place for reference.
Use the chainsaw only to saw wood or objects made of wood. Any other types of use are at your
own risk and could be dangerous. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for damage caused by
improper or incorrect usage.
To prevent the incorrect handling of the chainsaw, please read the operation instructions in their
entirety before using the long-reach lopper and trimmer for the first time. All the information on the
handling of the long-reach lopper and trimmer is relevant to your personal safety. Ask a professional
to show you how to use the Bergman® long reach lopper and trimmer.
Before plugging in, check the plug and cable for damage. If the replacement of the power cord
is necessary, this must only be done by a competent person.
Never use a damaged power cable, connection, plug or a power cable which does not comply
with the requirements. If the cable is damaged or severed, unplug immediately.
Always wear goggles and protective gloves when working with the chainsaw.
To prevent injury, wear fitted clothing (not loose) and safety boots.
To prevent damage to your hearing, wear ear defenders. Helmets with a visor are particularly
advantageous.
Make sure that you have firm footing when working with the chainsaw.
Keep your place of work tidy.
To prevent electric shock, avoid contact with earthed parts.
Always pull the plug out of the power socket before doing any work on the chainsaw.
Ensure that the appliance is switched off before plugging in to the mains outlet.
The long-reach lopper and trimmer must be used by one person at a time. All other people
must stay clear of the operation area. Children and pets, in particular, must be kept well away
at all times.
Ensure that the chainsaw or hedge trimmer is not in contact with any objects prior to starting.
Hold the long-reach lopper and trimmer firmly in both hands when working with it.
The chainsaw or hedge trimmer must not be operated by children and young people. The only
exceptions to this are young persons aged 16 years and over, and those who can use the tools
under supervision a part of their training. Lend the appliance only to those persons who are
familiar with this type of appliance and know how to handle it. Always pass on the operating
instructions together with the long-reach lopper and trimmer.
Make sure that the Bergman® long reach lopper and trimmer is stored in a dry, safe place,
inaccessible to children.

The Bergman® long reach trimmer and lopper should only ever be used by persons who are
rested and in good health. If you start to tire, have a break. The long reach lopper and trimmer
should not be used after the consumption of alcohol.
Never expose the long-reach lopper and trimmer to rain or bad weather. Make sure there is
enough light at the place of work. Do not use power tools in the vicinity of combustible liquids
or gasses.
Before making a cut, always set the spiked bumper before you start to saw.
Remove the chainsaw from the wood only with the chainsaw still running. Anyone who saws
without a stop can be pulled forward.
Never use the long-reach lopper and trimmer when standing on a ladder, in a tree or in any
other instable places. Do not saw with one hand.
The power cable must always be behind the saw operator and must always lead away from the
rear of the chainsaw.
Only use original accessories.
The Bergman® long-reach lopper and trimmer must always be connected to an RCD device.
Do not overload your power tools. The run best and safest when within given range of capacity.
Use the power cable for its proper purpose. Never carry your power tool by its cable. Do not
use the power cable to pull the plug out of the socket. Protect the cable from heat, oil and
sharp edges.
When cross cutting always set the spiked bumper against the timer you want to saw.
Always set the spiked bumper before cross cutting. Only then switch on the chainsaw and start
sawing into the wood. Pull the chainsaw upwards at the rear and led the direction with the
front grip. Use the spiked bumper as a fulcrum. To reposition for further cutting, interrupt the
sawing process and exert a slight pressure on the front grip. Pull the saw back a little, position
the spiked bumper further down the cut and pull up the rear grip.
If you carry out several cuts, switch off the chainsaw in-between.
Pay extra attention when cutting splintered wood. Sawn off pieces of wood may be catapulted
in any direction and represent an increased risk of harm.
Do not use the chainsaw to remove nails or similar objects.
Pay special attention to branches under tension. Do not cut through freely suspended branches
from underneath.
Never stand on the trunk when lopping off branches.
Always unplug the Bergman® long-reach lopper and trimmer before making any adjustments to
the chainsaw, checking the appliance or correcting a fault.
