Subject: R-10 RELAY VALVE INSTALLATION
When installing an aluminum adapter, such as 243505 (catalog page 03-B-7), in the
supply port of the R-10, a thread lubricant and sealer should be used. This is necessary
because the valve body and adapter are both aluminum and as the adapter is threaded
into the body, the fiction and torque will cause the threads to bond together prohibiting
subsequent removal of the parts. Maximum torque when installing 243505 is 180-240
inch pounds.
Examples of the type of sealant/lubricant that can be used are Never-Seez or Locktite
Thread Sealant with Teflon or Teflon tape. If Teflon tape is used, apply the tape at least
one thread back from the end. This assures that tape shreds will not enter the valve.
Lubricant/sealants must be used when male and female pipe threads of similar materials
are joined.
