Subject: SR-4 Spring Brake Valve
The SR-4 Spring Brake Valve is used on trailers and is similar in appearance to the SR-2 Spring Brake Valve. The SR-4 differs in function by utilizing both trailer reservoirs for normal service braking, but reserving sufficient air pressure to provide a spring brake release in the event of service system failure.
Reference Figure 1, the complete SR-4 Assembly (pc. no. 101112) consists of an SR-4 Valve sub-assembly (pc. no. 101113), a PR-3 Pressure Protection Valve (pc. no.
286460) and a SC-1 Single Check Valve (pc. no. 229603). Because of the similar appearance of the SR-2 (I.E.; pc. no. 287386) and the SR-4,
positive identification of the valve is important to insure correct replacement. The SR-2 and SR-4 valves have different operational characteristics and, therefore, IN
NO CASE SHOULD THEY BE INTERCHANGED WITH EACH OTHER. The SR-4 Valve sub-assembly piece number is stamped into the valve body (position
indicated in Figure 1). In addition, future production of the SR-4 assemblies will include a tag which will note service replacement piece number information.
