DESCRIPTION
The Bell & Gossett No. 98 is a high capacity automatic air vent
that is capable of releasing large amounts of air from hydronic
systems.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
CAUTION: All work must be performed by qualified
personnel trained in the proper application, installation,
and maintenance of systems in accordance with all applicable codes and ordinances.
CAUTION: If the No. 98 vent is not installed, commis-
sioned and maintained properly, according to the
instructions contained in this manual, it may not operate correctly and may endanger the user.
CAUTION: Make sure that all the connecting pipework
is water tight.

sure that the pipework connecting the No. 98 vent is
not mechanically over-stressed. Over time this could cause
breakages, with consequent water losses which, in turn,
could cause harm to property and/or people.
CAUTION: Water temperatures higher than 100°F
(38°C) can be dangerous. During the installation, commissioning and maintenance of the No. 98 vent, take the
necessary precautions to ensure that such temperatures do
not endanger people.

The No. 98 automatic air vent must be installed in a vertical
position. They are typically installed on the manifolds, on the rising main and in the points of the circuit where air bubbles are
concentrated and must be vented.
WARNING: State of California Residents

CAUTION: The installation of the vent in places sub-
ject to freezing is not recommended. In the case of
installation in locations that cannot be inspected, it is recommended to replace the upper caps with the safety hygroscopic caps, code 59681. To allow for the venting of the air
during normal operation, the upper cap must be loose (tight
in the hygroscopic version).
CAUTION: Uncontrolled venting of water can occur
with automatic air vents if foreign material prevents
vent from closing. Unwanted flow should be directed to a
drain. Failure to follow these instructions could result in
property damage and/or moderate personal injury.
OPERATING&SERVICE INSTRUCTIONS
CAUTION: All safety instructions and cautions apply.
Please review these instructions (as mentioned under
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION Section) before operating
and/or servicing this product.
The No. 98 automatic air vent valve is designed to enable the
inspection of the internal mechanism.
The accessibility to the moving parts that control the air outlet is
obtained by simply removing the upper cover. The body is also
detachable from the lower part connected to the piping,
It is recommended to install a shut-off valve before the No. 98
device to simplify any maintenance operations.
