DESCRIPTION
The No. 97 is a float type automatic air vent and is designed to vent the accumulation 
of troublesome air whenever it can be trapped.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
CAUTION: Uncontrolled venting of water can occur with the automatic air
vent if dirt, scale, pipe compound or other foreign material fouls the 
operating mechanism. Keep vent cap closed during system filling to prevent dirt from 
running into vent mechanism. Failure to follow these instructions could result in 
property damage and/or moderate personal injury.
CAUTION: Hot venting can be hazardous. Avoid contact with venting fluid
and only manually vent when system temperature is below 100°F (38°C). 
Failure to follow these instructions could result in property damage and/or personal 
injury.
CAUTION: Overtightening and breakage can occur with the use of Teflon®*
pipe joint compounds. Teflon provides lubricity so that care must be 
exercised not to over tighten joints. Failure to follow these instructions could result in 
property damage and/or moderate personal injury.

1. Install the No. 97 automatic air vent in a hydronic piping system or in hydronic 
system components where air is expected to accumulate and must be removed for 
proper hydronic system operation.
2. The No. 97 air vent is a float type and must be installed in the vertical position with 
the vent connection pointing up.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
CAUTION: Uncontrolled venting of water can occur with the automatic air
vent if dirt, scale, pipe compound or other foreign material fouls the 
operating mechanism. Keep vent cap closed during system filling to prevent dirt from 
running into vent mechanism. Failure to follow these instructions could result in 
property damage and/or moderate personal injury.

The No. 97 automatic air vent can be used for automatic or manual venting of hydronic 
systems.
1. To manually operate, press down on the vent stem.
2. For normal automatic venting, open cap one full turn for a slow release of air. A fast 
release of the air will allow dirt or scale to foul the vent mechanism. The small hole 
in the side of the cap allows air to escape.
3. To shutoff automatic air vent, screw cap down tight. 
SERVICE INSTRUCTIONS
There is no service required for the automatic air vent. 
CAUTION: Corrosion or leakage of vents can cause damage or injury.
Periodically inspect the air vents for signs of leakage or corrosion. If noted, 
the vent must be replaced. Failure to follow these instructions could result in property 
damage and/or moderate personal injury.
