1 WARRANTY TERMS

Interfocos

Warranty terms

Interfocos B.V. guarantees the quality of the supplied Bellﬁ res hearth and the quality of the materials used. All Bellﬁ res hearths are developed and manufactured according to the highest possible quality standards. If, despite all this, something should prove amiss with the Bellﬁ res hearth you have purchased, Interfocos B.V. offers the following manufacturer’s warranty.

Article 1: Warranty

1.1. If Interfocos B.V. determines that the Bellﬁ res hearth you have purchased is defective as a result of a ﬂ aw in the construction or material, Interfocos B.V. guarantees to repair or replace the hearth free of charge, without charging any costs for labour or spare parts.

1.2. Repair or replacement of the Bellﬁ res hearth will be undertaken by Interfocos B.V. or by a Bellﬁ res dealer as designated by Interfocos B.V.

1.3. This warranty is supplementary to the existing legal national warranty of Bellﬁ res dealers and Interfocos B.V. in the country of purchase and is not intended to restrict your rights and claims based on the applicable legal provisions.

Article 2: Warranty conditions

2.1. Should you wish to claim under the warranty, please contact your Bellﬁ res dealer.

2.2. Complaints should be reported as quickly as possible after they have manifested themselves.

2.3. Complaints will only be accepted if they are reported to the Bellﬁ res dealer, together with the serial number of the Bellﬁ res hearth which is stated on the front of the instructions for use.

2.4. In addition, the original receipt (invoice, receipt, cash receipt) showing the date of purchase must also be submitted.

2.5. Repairs and replacements during the warranty period do not give any entitlement to an extension of the warranty period. After a repair or replacement of warranty parts, the warranty period shall be deemed to have started on the date of purchasing the Bellﬁ res hearth.

2.6. If a certain part is eligible for the warranty and the original part is no longer available, Interfocos B.V. shall ensure that an alternative part of at least the same quality shall be provided.

Article 3: Warranty exclusions

3.1. The warranty on the Bellﬁ res hearth ceases to be in effect if: a. it is not installed according to the supplied installation instructions, and to national and/or local regulations; b. it has been installed, connected or repaired by a non-Bellﬁ res dealer;

c. it has not be used or maintained according to the instructions for use; d. it has been changed, neglected or roughly treated; e. it has been damaged as a result of external causes (outside the hearth

itself), for example, lightning strike, water damage or ﬁ re;

3.2. In addition, the warranty lapses if the original purchase receipt shows any change, deletion, removal or if it is illegible.

Article 4: Warranty area

4.1. The warranty is only valid in those countries where Bellﬁ res hearths are sold through an ofﬁ cial dealer network.

Article 5: Warranty period

5.1. This warranty will only be granted during the warranty period.

5.2. The body of the Bellﬁ res hearth is guaranteed for a period of 10 years against construction and/or material faults, starting from the moment of purchase.

5.3. For other parts of the Bellﬁ res hearth, a similar warranty applies from the moment of purchase for a period of one year.

5.4. For user parts such as glass, glass (cord), thermocouple and the interior of the combustion chamber, a similar guarantee is given until after the ﬁ rst burning.

Article 6: Liability

6.1. A claim granted by Interfocos B.V. under this warranty does not automatically imply that Interfocos B.V. also accepts liability for any possible damage. The liability of Interfocos B.V. never extends further than that stated in these warranty conditions. Any liability of Interfocos B.V. for consequential damage is expressly excluded.

6.2. That stated in this provision is not valid if and to the extent that is derives from a mandatory provision.

6.3. All agreements entered into by Interfocos B.V. are, unless speciﬁ cally stated otherwise in writing and to the extent that they are permitted based on applicable law, subject to the Conditions of the Dutch Metal and Engineering Association (METAALUNIEVOORWAARDEN), as ﬁ led with the registrar of the Court of Rotterdam on 1 January 2008.

2 INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

2.1 INTRODUCTION

Congratulations on your purchase of this modern Bellﬁ res gas ﬁ re. This quality product will provide you with many years of enjoyment due to the ﬂ ame effect and warmth that it provides. Please read the instructions for use carefully before using the appliance for the ﬁ rst time. Keep this booklet in a safe place.

2.2 BUILT-IN PROTECTION OF THE APPLIANCE

The appliance is fully protected by means of a thermo-electric pilot light shut off in the event of a gas escape from the main burner.

2.2.1 Safety

Do not place embers, vermiculite granules, wood logs or pebbles against the pilot light burner. Make sure that the pilot ﬂ ame can burn at all times freely over the main burner. Only in this way is proper ignition of the main burner ensured. Ignoring these directions could lead to a dangerous situation.

Do not place ﬂ ammable objects within 100 cm of the appliance. Pay special attention to furnishings and ornaments around the ﬁ re.

When igniting the pilot light and burner, always keep a minimum distance of 100 cm from the front of the appliance.

If the pilot ﬂ ame goes out for any reason, wait for 5 minutes before attempting to re-light it.

It is essential that the appliance, the complete concentric ﬂ ue system and the outlet are cleaned and inspected annually by a recognised ﬁ tter/gas

specialist. The safe operation of the appliance will thus remain guaranteed. For this, please refer to the Installation instructions (Chapter 2: Maintenance), that are supplied separately with each appliance.

The gas ﬁ re must never be used with the door open or the door glass removed.

Never place ﬂ ammable material on the ceramic log set.

The ﬁ lling of the main burner with embers, vermiculite granules, wood logs or pebbles may not under any circumstances be changed or added to.

Do not place easily-ﬂ ammable materials, such as nylon clothing or ﬂ ammable liquids, in the vicinity of the gas ﬁ re.

Ensure at all times that children and other people who are not

aware of the operation of the gas appliance are only in the vicinity of the appliance exclusively under supervision.

Use a ﬁ reguard to protect the people and children mentioned above against possible burns.

2.3 OPERATION: REMOTE CONTROL

2.3.1 General

Read these instructions carefully before lighting the ﬁ re !!

The appliance is opperated by radio remote control. This comprises a hand-held transmitter and a receiver. The receiver is part of the gas control block assembly.

The receiver and the gas control block are behind the (white) panel door (operating unit) next to the appliance. Press the door inwards to open; this will release the catch and the door will spring out.

The hand-held transmitter and receiver are powered by batteries. Hand-held transmitter : 1x 9V battery. Receiver : 4x 1.5V battery type LR6 or AA.

Option: 6V adapter (230 VAC). Available from your ﬁ tter.

Note: Hand-held transmitter and receiver are not interchangeable with previous models.

The pilot light is situated in the front of the burner, behind a cowl. Should the pilot light

go out, you must wait ﬁ ve (5) minutes before attempting to re-ignite the ﬁ re.

Important

Once the ﬁ re is lit, it must burn at maximum for approx. 10 minutes to allow the chimney

to come up to temperature!

2.3.2 Hand-held transmitter

The remote control works by radio signal. The hand-held transmitter is conﬁ gured in the factory with a unique signal code.

Set the display

• Connect the batteries. By simultaneously pressing OFF and (small ﬂ ame), can be switched from °F (and 12 hour clock) to °C (and 24 hour clock), or vice versa.

• The display will automatically return to mode after some time, but you may immediately return to mode by pressing the OFF button.

Set the current time

• By simultaneously pressing (large ﬂ ame) and (small ﬂ ame), the display ﬂ ashes. You are in SET mode.

• While the screen is ﬂ ashing, you can adjust the time.

• Press (large ﬂ ame) to set the hour and (small ﬂ ame) to set the minute.

• Wait or press OFF to return to mode.

Important: Setting up signal code before using the appliance for the ﬁ rst time.

Before the appliance can be used, the receiver must ﬁ rst learn the hand-held transmitter’s signal code.

• Press the “RESET”

button on the receiver, and keep this pressed until 2 audio signals

are heard. See ﬁ gure 2. Release the “RESET” button after the second (somewhat longer) audio signal.

• Press, within 20 seconds, the

(small ﬂ ame) button on the hand-held transmitter,

until 2 short signals are heard. The signal code has now been set up on the receiver

If, however, a single long sound is heard, this means that setting the signal code has

failed or that the wiring has been connected incorrectly.

You only need to set up the signal code once. It is not necessary when changing the batteries of the hand-held transmitter or receiver.

Manual operation

Here you can turn the burner on and off, and adjust the height of the ﬂ ames.

• Press (large ﬂ ame) to turn on the burner and to increase the ﬂ ame height.

• Press

(small ﬂ ame) decrease the ﬂ ame height to turn the burner off.

The pilot light will keep burning. (Stand-by position)

• The appliance will automatically revert to stand-by if: ° the hand-held transmitter is outside the range of the receiver for more

than 6 hours.

° the batteries in the hand-held transmitter are almost depleted. ° the batteries in the receiver are fully depleted. (The pilot light will also be turned off.)

This also applies to the Thermostat and Timer operation.

• When one of the buttons on the hand-held transmitter is pressed (except

the SET button), the transmission symbol

appears on the screen.

The receiver conﬁ rms the transmission with an audio signal.

Operating day temperature thermostat

(Appliance is in the stand-by position and the pilot light is burning.)

Automatic temperature regulation of the pre-set day temperature. The room temperature is measured and compared with the pre-set day temperature. The ﬂ ame height is automatically regulated so as to reach the pre-set day temperature. Also see: Setting the desired temperature.

Operating the night temperature thermostat (Appliance is in the stand-by position and the pilot light is burning.) Automatic temperature regulation of the pre-set night temperature. The room temperature is measured and compared with the pre-set night

temperature. The ﬂ ame height is automatically regulated so as to reach the pre-set night temperature. Also see: Setting the desired temperature.

Timer operation

(Appliance is in the stand-by position and the pilot light is burning.)

Appliance functions automatically according to the two pre-set heating periods; P1 and P2. These heating periods repeat automatically every 24 hours. Also see: Programming the timer: P1 and P2.

The appliance works thermostatically at the pre-set starting times P1 and P2 and the room temperature is automatically regulated to the pre-set day temperature .

If the setting is lowered to , the appliance will switch to stand-by at night. The appliance will automatically operate at the following day cycle .

N.B.: The pre-set temperature is shown on the screen every 30 seconds.

• Set the temperature with (large ﬂ ame) or (small ﬂ ame).

• If the temperature control in should be off (lower battery consumption), decrease the night temperature until appears on the display.

Important: Place the hand-held transmitter in a place that is not

inﬂ uenced by direct sunlight, draught, heat from the appliance and other heat sources.

Programming the timer: P1 and P2

• Select the desired mode of operation by pressing the SET button brieﬂ y.

•

Press the SET button until P1 (heating period 1) and the time appear in the

display. (The time indication ﬂ ashes.)

• Set the time for the beginning of the ﬁ rst heating period by pressing (large ﬂ ame) for houre and (small ﬂ ame) for minute’setting.

• Press the SET button brieﬂ y; P1

appears on the display. Set the time for the end

of the ﬁ rst heating period.

• Press SET again to set the second heating period P2

(heat ON) and P2

(heat

OFF).

• Wait a moment or press OFF to switch back to

mode.

2.3.3 Operation (Remote Control)

Igniting the ﬁ re

• Open the gas supply valve in the gas pipe to the ﬁ re.

• Press the “O I” switch on the gas control block to the “I” position.

• Turn the operating knob on the gas control block to the ON position.

• Switch the hand-held transmitter to the

position.

• On the hand-held transmitter, press the OFF and (large ﬂ ame) buttons simultaneously. A short tone will signal the start. Release the buttons. Short beeps will then follow until the pilot light and main burner are ignited. Once the main burner has been ignited, the ﬂ ame height will automatically rise to the maximum position.

Important: • If the pilot ﬂ ame goes out for any reason, wait for 5 minutes before attempting to re-light it.

• If the pilot light does not ignite after 3 ignition attempts; close the gas tap and warn the ﬁ tter.

• Once the pilot light is burning, the main burner must ignite within 10 seconds automatically. If this does not happen, immediately close the gas tap and warn the ﬁ tter.

• If the main burner ignites with a pop; immediately close the gas tap and warn the ﬁ tter.

• Possible error messages: * 3x short audio signal, audible when the motor-knob operates: Receiver batteries need changing soon (having heard this signal, the appliance can be ignited another ten times approximately). * 5 second unbroken tone: Error. For example, one of the cables may not be properly connected, the “O I” switch is not in the “I” position. * 5 short beeps: Ignition of the pilot light and main burner failed. Possible cause: air in the pilot light pipe.

Important: If the pilot ﬂ ame goes out, then wait for at least 5 minutes before repeating the above procedure.

Setting the ﬂ ame height / extinguishing the ﬁ re

• After ignition, the burner automatically sets the ﬂ ames to the maximum height

• Press button (small ﬂ ame) to lower the ﬂ ames and to turn off the main burner

(Extinguishing the ﬁ re: small ﬂ ame button: pilot light remains burning (stand-by position)!)

(Pressing brieﬂ y the

(small ﬂ ame) button gradually lowers the ﬂ ames to the low

position.)

Pressing the (small ﬂ ame) button twice automatically lowers the ﬂ ames to the low

position. (When this happens, the ﬂ ames will ﬁ rst automatically go to maximum!)

This is indicated by “LO” on the display.

• Press button

(large ﬂ ame) to increase the ﬂ ame level and to turn on the burner

from the stand-by position. (Pressing brieﬂ y the (large ﬂ ame) button gradually increases the ﬂ ames to the high position.) Pressing the (large ﬂ ame) button twice automatically increases the ﬂ ames to the

high position. This is indicated by “HI” on the display.

Important: • If you turn on the main burner by pressing the (large ﬂ ame) button, it must ignite within 10 seconds. If this does not happen, immediately close the gas tap and warn the ﬁ tter.

• If the main burner ignites with a pop; immediately close the gas tap and warn the ﬁ tter.

Switching off the appliance

• Press the

(small ﬂ ame) button to lower the ﬂ ames or to switch off the main burner.

• Then press the OFF button to switch off the appliance, including the pilot light.

• Press the “O I” switch (on the gas control block) to the “O” position. This conserves

battery life.

• If the appliance is not to be used for some time, please close the gas supply valve in

the gas pipe.

Important: If the pilot ﬂ ame goes out for any reason, wait for 5 minutes before attempting to re-light it.

Faults

• If the signals from the hand-held transmitter do not seem to be reaching the receiver,

the cause may be: * Spent batteries: replace the batteries. * An electronic problem: press the “RESET” button on the receiver.

• If the appliance regularly switches itself off, please contact your installer.

Replacing the batteries

• The hand-held transmitter/receiver batteries have a service life of approx. one year. We recommend you use alkaline batteries

Rechargeable batteries are not permitted.

• The batteries must be replaced whenever: 1 Hand-held transmitter : The battery symbol indicates this in the display.

: Battery empty

2 Receiver: 3x short audio signal, audible when the motor-knob operates.

1 Hand-held transmitter:

* Open the cover on the back of the transmitter. * Carefully remove the 9V battery and disconnect it from the contact.

Do not pull the wires! * Connect the new battery and replace in the battery compartment. Close the cover.

2 Receiver: * Carefully pull the receiver assembly out of the compartment behind the (white) panel door.

* Open the cover. * Remove the batteries from the battery compartment. * Place four new 1.5V batteries (LR6 or AA type) as indicated in the battery

compartment. The negative end (-) of the battery must always be at the contact spring end of the compartment.

* Close the cover and place the receiver back in its holder.

• If the batteries are inserted incorrectly, the electronics or drive may be irreparably damaged.

• Only replace the batteries when the appliance has been completely switched off.

2.3.4 Operation (Hand control)

In an emergency it is possible to operate the appliance manually. To do so, the ignition

(piezo) cable must ﬁ rst be removed and transferred carefully to the piezo connector on the gas control block.

Igniting the ﬁ re

• Open the gas supply valve in the gas pipe to the ﬁ re.

• Switch the “O I” switch on the gas regulating block to the “I” position.

• Turn the motor-knob on the gas regulating block completely to the right, in the OFF

position. The switch will audibly ‘click’.

• Turn the operating knob on the gas control block to the MAN position. A recessed

switch within the knob will become visible.

• Press the recessed switch. Use a pen or similar instrument to do this. Gas will now ﬂ ow to the pilot light.

• While holding down the recessed switch, press the (square) piezo button several

times (the piezo button is alongside the “O I” switch) to ignite the pilot light.

Check whether the pilot light has been lit through the glass.

l Once the pilot light is lit, the recessed switch must be kept down for a further ten

seconds, after which it can be released.

Important: If the pilot ﬂ ame goes out, then wait for at least 5 minutes before repeating the above procedure.

• Move the operating knob to the ON position. Depending on the position of the motor-

knob, the burner will either ignite or not.

• By turning the motor-knob anti-clockwise to the desired position, the burner will ignite

and the ﬂ ame height can be controlled.

Important: •

When the main burner is switched on by turning

the motor knob to the left, the burner must

ignite within 10 seconds.

If this does not happen, immediately close the

gas tap and warn the ﬁ tter.

• If the main burner ignites with a pop; immediately close the gas tap and warn

the ﬁ tter.

Extinguishing the ﬁ re

• Turn the motor-knob on the gas regulating block as far as it will go in a clockwise

direction. The knob will audibly ‘click’. The burner is now switched off. The pilot light will remain lit.

Switching off the appliance

• Press the “O I” switch on the gas regulating block to the “O” position. The pilot light will be extinguished.

• If the gas ﬁ re is not going to be used for a long period of time, it is recommended to close the gas supply valve to the ﬁ re.

Important: If the pilot ﬂ ame goes out for any reason, wait for 5 minutes before attempting to re-light it.

3 USING THE APPLIANCE FOR THE FIRST TIME

The gas ﬁ re is coated with a lacquer layer resistant to high temperature. During the ﬁ rst hours of operation, the burning in of the lacquer may result in an unpleasant smell. This is harmless, however. Operating the gas ﬁ re at full capacity for a few hours, while ventilating the room, will eliminate the smell. After using your gas ﬁ re for the ﬁ rst few times, you may be aware of a light deposit on the inside off the glass. This is caused by the paint curing. Once your ﬁ replace has cooled down, this deposit can be removed with glass cleaner or ceramic hob cleaner.

4 DAILY MAINTENANCE

• Ensure that as little dust, and as few particles of cigarette smoke, candles and oil

lamps as possible pollute the air in the room in which the appliance is used. Heating of these particles by the convection system of the appliance could lead to discoloration of the walls and ceiling. It is therefore very important to ensure that the room in which the appliance is located is sufﬁ ciently ventilated. Regularly remove any dust deposits from behind the (white) panel door (operating unit) by means of a vacuum cleaner.

Important: • Regularly clean the glass on the inside of the appliance with glass spray or ceramic hob cleaner.

Attention!! If the glass is not cleaned on time,

this can result in becoming dull and difﬁ cult, if not impossible, to clean. (See installation instructions for dismantling/assembling the glass.)

• If the glass is broken or cracked, it must be

immediately replaced before operating the gas ﬁ re again. Ceramic heat-resistant glass may not be placed in

the glass container, but must be included in normal household waste.

• If anything is spilt on the ﬁ re, switch it off immediately and wait for it to cool

down sufﬁ ciently before cleaning. Never use scouring powder, aggressive cleaners or ﬁ re polish on the gas ﬁ re. Use only a dry lint free cloth.

• Heat resistant lacquer in aerosols can be obtained from your distributor. During the yearly maintenance, the lacquer can be used to repair small areas of damage.

The installation must only be carried out by a

1 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

1.1 GENERAL

The gas ﬁ re must be positioned and connected as a “room sealed system” (balance ﬂ ue) appliance by a “Gas Safe Register” registered gas installation engineer in accordance with the following installation instructions, nationally and locally applicable regulations (see “Technical Details/ Regulations” at the rear of this manual). If you have any queries regarding the installation, please consult your local gas company.

Important: Before beginning the installation, check that the details on the rating plate correspond to the gas type and pressure to which the appliance will be connected.

The appliance is factory set to the correct nominal heat input. The pilot light is set to the correct level of consumption.

The appliance has a Ø130 mm - Ø200 mm concentric connection for extracting the ﬂ ue gases and supply of combustion air.

It is possible to install the gas ﬁ re with either a wall or roof outlet.

The roof connection must be carried out using the concentric ﬂ ue system Ø100 mm Ø150 mm. The fumes are exhausted naturally to the outside environment through the inner Ø100 mm pipe whereas the combustion air supply passes between the Ø100 mm and Ø150 mm pipes.

The wall connection must be carried out using the concentric ﬂ ue system Ø130 mm Ø200 mm. The ﬂ ue gases are evacuated outside by means of natural draft through the internal pipe of Ø130 mm, whereas the combustion air is supplied between the pipes of Ø130 mm and Ø200 mm. The wall outlet itself is Ø100 mm - Ø150 mm.

The gas ﬁ re can be installed in a completely sealed or mechanically ventilated house without extra ventilation and/or fume extraction.

The gas ﬁ re can be installed as an insertion into an existing open ﬁ re place or as a built-in appliance in a new ﬁ re place.

In order to prevent the ﬁ replace heating up excessively, it must be properly ventilated by installing vents at the top and bottom of the ﬁ replace.

If an existing chimney is to be used, please consult your installer ﬁ rst. If the chimney was previously used for a wood or coal ﬁ re, then it should be cleaned by an expert.

The gas ﬁ re, in combination with the concentric ﬂ ue system [Ø100 mm - Ø150 mm] and/ or [Ø130 mm - Ø200 mm] (rigid and/or ﬂ exible)

for the brands Bellﬁ res (Muelink & Grol system), Poujoulat (PGI system) or Ontop (Metaloterm US system), has been approved in accordance with the European CE-norm for gas appliances and may therefore be used only with these systems. The permitted components for these systems are listed in Chapter 1.6.2. The guarantee on the appliance lapses if it is installed, fully or partially, with other components or a different ﬂ ue system. The concentric ﬂ ue [Ø100 mm - Ø150 mm] and [Ø130 mm - Ø200 mm] systems can be used with either a newly-built or existing chimney.

1.5 PREPARATION FOR INSTALLATION

The following preparation must be carried out before the gas ﬁ re can be installed.

1.5.1 Instructions for positioning the outlet

1.5.1.1 Positioning the outlet for correct operation:

This must be positioned at least 0.5 m from the roof edge; the apex of the roof can be disregarded.

Wall-mounted outlet:

This must be positioned at least 0.5 m from:

• the corner of the building.

• the roof overhang, the rain gutter.

• balconies etc., unless the exhaust construction

extends to at least the face of the protruding section.

1.5.1.2. Positioning the outlet to avoid affecting the surrounding area

All listed “distances” in this section are no more than guidelines. For the exact minimum “distances”, please consult your national and local directives.

“Distance” = minimum distance required for positioning of the outlet to avoid adverse effects with respect to:

A. A ventilation opening serving an occupied room, a toilet or a bathroom.

B. A heating air supply, when the supply ﬂ ows through an occupied room.

C. A window that can be opened and that is near an occupied room, a toilet or a bathroom.

(*) These minimum distances do not apply if there is an obstruction between the outlet and A, B and C that protrudes at least 0.5 m from the wall and has a length exceeding the distance.

(**) This distance is not required if the outlet is situated at least 1 m higher than the intended area of the outside space.

If the outlet has a clearance of less than 0.5 m from the hard surface of a public area at a height of less than 2 m, it must be ﬁ tted with an effective protector. The mesh size of the guard must not affect the correct operation of the appliance.

1.6 GENERAL SERVICES

1.6.1 The Fume Channel/Combustion Air Intake

The combined fume channel and combustion air intake requires one of the following concentric ﬂ ue system conﬁ gurations.

Important: Due to the high temperature of the outer walls

(approx. 150°C), no ﬂ ammable materials may be located or used in the vicinity of the ﬂ ue system. The complete ﬂ ue system, must therefore be sleeved with a heat resistant material after assembly.

Ventilate the covered concentric ﬂ ue by ﬁ tting a grid near the ﬂ oor and ceiling (on each ﬂ oor).

Do not insulate the concentric ﬂ ue.

Use the universal wall/ﬂ oor support Ø150 mm to attach the covering of the concentric ﬂ ue system [Ø100 mm - Ø150 mm], see 1.6.2, drawing number 36.

• Check whether the wall or roof termination kit to be used exactly matches one of those listed in this instruction book.

1.6.3 Gas connection

Operation (gas regulating block (and receiver)) outside the appliance (in the operating unit):

The gas connection is situated where the operating unit is built in near to the appliance.

Use only gas piping with a minimum diameter of 1/2” and a shut-off valve.

1.6.4 Operating unit

If the appliance is ﬁ tted with an operating unit comprising gas control block and receiver, this will be located, once it has been built in, at a maximum of 50 cm from the left or right hand side of the appliance.

1.7 POSITIONING THE APPLIANCE

Important: The ﬁ replace is constructed on a sufﬁ ciently solid ﬂ oor that

can bear the weight of the appliance.

Ensure a free space of at least 1 cm between the bottom of the appliance and the ﬂ oor.

Ensure that the temperature of the ﬂ oor under and in front of the appliance can never rise above 85°C! Make use of a temperature protection plate (of nonﬂ ammable material) on the ﬂ oor if necessary. Take care with a ﬂ oor made of a ﬂ ammable material.

Never position the appliance directly against the rear wall, but always place an nonﬂ ammable insulation plate, at least 12 mm thick, between the appliance and the rear wall, with free space on either side of 2 cm. (Total ± 5 cm.) The rear wall must be made of nonﬂ ammable material.

Never use combustible materials during the installation.

Ventilate the ﬁ replace, by allowing vents above and below the ﬁ replace.

During installation of the gas ﬁ re, a clearance of 3 mm should be maintained on all sides of the appliance to allow for expansion of the appliance during operation.

Do not insulate the appliance! Only the top and sides may be ﬁ tted with a strip of white, loose insulation wool (heat-resistant to 1000°C), width 15 cm max. to protect the wall.

Do not use ﬁ breglass or Rockwool, or any other sort of insulating material. These emit a pungent odour. This is considered extremely unpleasant. They may also cause discolouring of the column.

Flammable materials, such as curtains, should not be placed in the vicinity of the gas ﬁ re. Minimum safe distance: 100 cm.

Use the four adjustable legs to set the height of the appliance. See ﬁ gure 14.

These adjustable legs can be reached after the window and the grill around the burner have been removed (see Chapter 4).

Position the gas supply pipe such that it can be easily mounted after installation.

Because the control system is outside the appliance, the gas pipe must lead to where the operating unit (built in), the gas regulating block (and the receiver) assembly are ﬁ tted.

Move the appliance until it is ± 5 cm from the rear wall and ensure it is level. Place the nonﬂ ammable insulation plate (min. 12 mm) between the appliance and rear wall. The appliance may not be installed against a ﬂ ammable rear wall.

Attach the appliance to the rear wall with 2 wedge bolts. Use the adjustable mounting brackets at the side of the appliance for this.









1.7.1 Connecting the gas

Important: During gas connection, take care not to twist the gas regulating block. Make sure that both the gas regulating block and the supply pipes are not subjected to stresses.

Appliance with operation in the separate operating unit (built in or otherwise):.

• The control unit and piping are supplied separately (ﬂ at packed)

Remove the decorative edging and door of the operating unit. Fit the separate operating unit with the gas control block and receiver max. 50 cm from the appliance.

Adjust the operating unit using the two supports supplied.

Connect the supplied Ø8/(Ø12.4) mm stainless steel ﬂ exible gas pipe on one side under the burner plate with the compression coupling there.

The connections for the main burner ((Ø8 mm stainless steel ﬂ exible), pilot light (Ø4 mm stainless steel ﬂ exible), thermocouple (thermocouple interrupter) and piezo cable can now be made at the gas regulating block in the operating unit. If the system has remote control, the piezo cable, the 8-terminal cable and the two thermocouple cables must be connected to the receiver (see ﬁ gure 16 and Chapter 5: Electrical Diagram).

Important: Using the hand, screw the thermocouple connection (and thermocouple interrupter) into the back of the gas regulating block. Carefully tighten another half of a turn using a fork spanner.

Appliance with operation in the separate operating unit (built in or otherwise).

• Gas control block and piping supplied as an pre-assembly.

First detach the bracket with the gas control block from the appliance. Fit the separate control unit max. 50 cm from the appliance. Fit the receiver in the top of the control unit.

Connect the piezo cable, the 8-terminal

cable

and

the two thermocouple cables to the receiver (see Chapter 5: Electrical

Diagram).

Carefully move the bracket with the gas regulating block and piping towards the control unit. Fit the bracket to the bottom of the control unit. Make sure that you do not damage any of the piping or detach any compression couplings while doing this. After you have done this, check the compression couplings for leaks.

General:

Route all piping and cables from the operating unit to the appliance through an easily accessible hollow cavity or a heat-resistant pipe of minimum Ø50 mm.

During subsequent installation of the operating unit, protect the gas regulating block and piping against encasement by cement etc.

Important: Cement and chalk can damage the piping and can, in turn, lead to gas leaks.

1.7.2 Connecting the concentric ﬂ ue

Assemble the concentric ﬂ ue system according to one of the examples in section 1.6.1, ﬁ gure 4 to 12 inclusive. Make sure that all connections are completely gas tight.

1.7.3 Building in the appliance

The appliance is supplied from the factory with three decorative elements for the exterior of the ﬁ replace:

• 1x horizontal support girder

• 1x vertical post Right

• 1x vertical post Left

Before building in the appliance, carefully place the “horizontal support girder” (1) and then the two “posts” (2 and 3) as shown in ﬁ gure 19.

Note! : The “girder” and “posts” are made of a fragile ﬁ reproof material. Place carefully !!! Wear protective clothing to prevent possible allergic reactions.

The appliance can now be built in.

First determine the places for the ventilation ducts (grills, at the top and bottom of the chimney breast).

The appliance can be built in using brickwork or by means of ﬁ re-resistant plates that are screwed to a metal frame. You can, if you like, erect a natural stone mantelpiece in front of this.

The edge to which the materials for building in the appliance may be used:

Top of hearth: Top edge: transition metal - glass.

Left/right of hearth:

Up the to visible edge of the “post” L/R.:

transition metal - “post”.

Note ! : Ensure that there is a clearence of 2 mm between the brickwork/ ﬁ reproof plate and the post to allow for expansion of the appliance due to heat. In addition, the “posts” should be at all time easily removable for maintenance to the appliance.

Bottom of hearth: Up to level with the top of the “support girder”. Note ! : Ensure that there is a clearence of

2 mm between the brickwork/ ﬁ reproof plate and the “girder” to allow for expansion of the appliance due to heat. In addition, the girder should be at all time easily removable for maintenance to the appliance.

The net opening in the wall that arises is approximately: 874 x 674 mm [W x H]

The appliance is supplied with a straight pressed steel lintel as option to allow installation against a ﬂ at wall or in a ﬁ replace.

A heat-resistant sealing cord should be placed between the top of the edge and the lower side of the lintel to allow vertical expansion of the appliance and to prevent cracking the ﬁ replace.

Do not use masking tape on the appliance when installing and plastering. Tape can damage the ﬁ nish of the hearth.

The brickwork or the ﬁ re-resistant sheet construction can now be continued to ceiling height.

If using other materials, such as stone or heat-resistant plating, you should follow the supplier’s instructions.

Once the ﬁ replace has been ﬁ nished, you can now, ﬁ t the frame with the small door to the operating unit.

After installation in a new ﬁ replace and/or applying new cement work, the appliance cannot be used for at least four weeks.

1.7.4 Checking the gas connection

After connection of the gas supply, check that all connections are completely gas tight using soapy water or a leak tester.

1.7.5 Decorative walls and grill

The appliance is supplied standard with a set of decorative walls and a grill. These are made of a fragile ﬁ re-resistant material.

Place the pieces carefully in the order 1 to 5 as shown in ﬁ gure 20.

Note ! : The decorative walls and the grill are made of

a fragile ﬁ reproof material.

1.7.6 Positioning the ceramic log set

The appliance is delivered with a set of artiﬁ cial wooden logs and embers.

Important: • Carefully place the embers and set of logs on and around the main burner according to the directions in this chapter.

• Do not place any embers or logs against the pilot light burner. Make sure that the pilot ﬂ ame can burn at all times freely over the main burner. Only in this way is proper ignition of the main burner ensured. Ignoring these directions could lead to a dangerous situation.

• Make sure that all burner oriﬁ ces remains free

at all times!

• The burner bed (with embers) and the positioning of the logs must not be changed.

• Only use those items supplied! These been rigorously checked and the quantities adapted to the appliance.

• Replacement parts are available from your dealer.

• Fitting may only be carried out by a qualiﬁ ed person.

Once the front has been removed along with the glass plate, the embers can be placed on the burner and the ceramic log set can be put in position. See also Chapter 4, “DISASSEMBLY / ASSEMBLY OF THE GLASS, THE REGULATOR AND BURNER”.

FITTING THE CERAMIC LOG SET.

NATURAL GAS APPLIANCE:

1. Carefully remove the embers (2x 125 gram) from the packaging and place them evenly on

and around the burner.

Note ! Small embers and their residue should not be scattered on the burner. This can cause a blockage on the burner oriﬁ ces.

1.7.7 Mounting ﬂ ue gas restriction plate

Depending on the length and shape of the concentric ﬂ ue system and the chimney construction, you should, if indicated, ﬁ t a restriction plate with a certain width (B) into the ceiling of the combustion chamber. To do this, see the set-up options as listed in ﬁ gure 4 through 12.

Important: Ensure that the correct ﬂ ue gas restriction plate is mounted. Use of the correct ﬂ ue gas restriction plate will provide

optimum efﬁ ciency, ﬂ ame effect and combustion. Mounting an incorrect ﬂ ue gas restriction plate can result in damage to the gas ﬁ re.

1.7.8 Checking the appliance following installation

After installation, visually check the gas ﬂ ame. When the ﬁ re is ignited, the ﬂ ames should be short and blue/yellow in colour. These ﬂ ames should gradually increase in height and become more yellow. When all ﬂ ames are yellow, the gas ﬁ re has reached the correct temperature.

2 MAINTENANCE

2.1 ANNUAL MAINTENANCE

It is essential that the appliance, the complete concentric ﬂ ue system (where possible) and the outlet are cleaned and inspected annually by a recognised ﬁ tter/gas specialist.

The safe operation of the appliance will thus remain guaranteed.

Maintenance consists of the following:

• Remove ﬁ rst the embers and logs set from the main burner and carefully clean these

with a soft brush.

• Clean and inspect (visually) the main burner, pilot light, combustion chamber,

ﬂ ue system and combustion air intake. Dust can be removed using a vacuum cleaner.

• Clean the glass on the inside of the appliance with glass spray or ceramic hob

cleaner.

• After cleaning; Carefully replace the embers and logs set on and around the main burner according to the installation directions in this instruction booklet. Do not place any embers or logs against the pilot light burner. Make sure that

the pilot ﬂ ame can burn at all times freely over the main burner. Only in this way is proper ignition of the main burner ensured.

Ignoring these directions could lead to a dangerous situation.

• Check the gas supply, ﬂ ue system, and combustion air supply route for leaks.

• Check the correct operation of the gas regulating block, thermocouple

circuit and the ignition of the main burner.

• Check the gas inlet-pressure (both when the appliance is off and when it burns

at maximum) and the burner pressure.

• Check the complete concentric ﬂ ue system including the outlet construction. A camera can be used to inspect the whole length of the ﬂ ue gas outlet and the

combustion air intake.

Also check that all connections are secure.

3 FAULTS

3.1 POSSIBLE REASONS

Possible reasons for the gas ﬁ re going out are:

• The concentric ﬂ ue system is not installed according to one of the methods detailed in Paragraph 1.6.

• An incorrect “ﬂ ue gas restriction plate” is ﬁ tted.

• The pilot light extinguishes if fumes are not exhausted or are insufﬁ ciently exhausted.

• The pilot light is either dirty or defective.

• Insufﬁ cient gas pressure.

• (Internal) leak of the concentric ﬂ ue system.

• Thermocouple voltage is too low. This is usually caused by insufﬁ cient heating of the thermocouple by the pilot light.

3.2.1 Thermo-electric pilot light shut off

The appliance is protected by means of a thermo-electric pilot light shut off in the event of a gas escape from the main burner.

4 DISMANTLING / ASSEMBLING OF THE GLASS, REGULATOR AND BURNER

4.1 DISMANTLING

1 Close the gas supply tap.

2 Remove the vertical Left and Right “posts” by lifting them and removing them sideways.

3 Remove the support “girder” by lifting it and pulling it out.

Note ! : The “girder” and “posts” are made of a fragile ﬁ reproof material.

Place carefully !!!

Wear protective clothing to prevent possible allergic reactions.

4 Unscrew with several turns the 2 adjustment screws (to ﬁ x the door) left and right below. Slide the left adjustment screw completely to the left and the right adjustment screw completely to the right.

5 The door is now only resting on two supports, Left and Right. Lift the door slightly, pull it forward, and lower it carefully into the space below. The door can now be removed from the front.

Use work gloves when removing the door!

6 Remove the log set and the embers.

7 Carefully remove the grill (around the burner). Avoid damaging the decorative walls!

8 Dismantling pilot light: Unscrew the 2 screws next to the pilot light. Remove the wind guard. Carefully pull the pilot light plate together with the pilot light upwards. You can now dismantle the ﬂ exible pilot light pipe Ø4 mm, the thermocouple and piezo cable from underneath.

9 Dismantling bottom plate including main burner: Unscrew the 8 bolts on the bottom plate; 6 bolts around the burner and 2 bolts against the inside front, left and right of the pilot light. You can now slide the bottom plate backwards, so that you can loosen the

compression ﬁ tting with the ﬂ exible burner pipe Ø8 mm to the main burner at the front.

10 Dismantling main burner: Unscrew the 4 bolts that connect the main burner to the bottom plate. Loosen the compression ﬁ tting with the mainburner pipe. You can now remove the main burner.

11 Dismantle all connections to the operating unit of the gas regulator block; Thermocouple, ﬂ exible pilot light pipe Ø4 mm and ﬂ exible burner pipe Ø8 mm. Uncouple the piezo cable from the receiver. You can now remove all components.

4.2 ASSEMBLY

Assemble in the reverse order. Ensure that the bottom plate sealing cord and the glass plate mate correctly. Re-check all re-ﬁ tted gas connections for leaks using soapy water or a leak tester.
