Software Setup for Windows 98 SE, Me, 2000, and XP
To install the software for the USB Adapte r, follow the instruc tions below:
Note: The inst allatio n process for Windows XP may look slightly dif ferent fro m
Windows 98 SE, Me, and 2 000.
Note: Do not insert the USB Adapter into the USB port prior to software installation.
1. Inser t the softw are instal lation CD-ROM into the PC’s CD-R OM drive.
2. The “Software In stallSh ield Wizard” windo w a ppears. Click on “Nex t” to begin th e
installation p rocess.

3. Choos e “I accept th e terms in the
license agreem ent” to accept the license agreem ent. Click on “Next” to continue.
4. Specify the location where the software
files will be installed on your hard drive. It is recommended that you install the software in the default directory “C:\Program Files\Belkin\Bluetooth Software\”. Click on “Next” to continue.

5. Confirm that the device soft ware is
ready to b e installed and click on “Install”.

install the Belki n Bluetooth Softwa re. This may t ake several minute s.

8. Durin g the insta llation pr ocess you m ay be prompted to insert your USB Adapter.
If your US B Adapter is n ot plugged into your computer at th is time, yo u m ay insert it into an available USB 1.1-compliant por t o n your desk top or notebook computer, then cl ick “OK” to co ntinue. Click on “Can cel” to con tinue installation without the Bluet ooth device insert ed. Refer to t he “Hardware Installation ” section of this User Manual for instructions for ins talling the hardwa re.
Note: If at any ti me during the install ation process you receive a “Dri ver Signature
Notice”, click “O K” to conti nue the installation process .

Hardware Setup for Windows 98 SE, Me, 2000, and XP
Follow these inst ruction s to instal l y our USB Ada pter on your P C.
Note: Your USB Adapter is sensitive to static electricity, which can damage its
delicate electrical components. To protect your device, always touch the metal chassis of your computer before handling the USB Adapter. This will ground any potential electrostatic discharge. Avoid touching the metal connector when handling the USB Adapter. Dry weather conditions or walking across carpeted floors may cause you to acquire an electrostatic charge.
1. Co nnect the USB Adapter directly to
an available USB A-type conn ector on your desktop or notebook com puter. Your system shoul d register a n ew USB device found.
2. Choo se “Install from a list or s pecific
location”; the n c lick “Next”.

Configuring your computer for Windows 98 SE, Me, 2000, and XP
1.
Once the install ation process is complete you wi ll be prompted by the “Initial
Bluetooth Conf igurati on Wizard”. This Wiza rd will guide you through the initi al setup of y our Bluetooth devi ce. Please follow the Wi zard as pro mpted.
2. Na me your computer with a friendly na me. This is th e name, which will be made
available when yo ur computer is discov ered by oth er Bluetooth devices.

3. Choose the type of computer on which
you have installed the Belkin USB Adapter from the drop-down menu in the window.
4. C ontinue the Wizard to configure the
Bluetooth serv ices that this comput er will make availab le for use to other Bluetooth devi ces. Click “Next”.

5. C hoose the Bluetooth s ervices that
your computer wil l offer. Th e m ost common service fo r your comp uter type will be checked by default .
6. I f y ou wish to con figure another
Bluetooth devi ce on this com puter, click “Next”. Oth erwise click “Skip ”.

Follow these inst ruction s to uninst all your USB A dapter on your PC.
Go to your Taskbar and c lick Start.
Click on s ettings and go to control panel.

1. If you have installed the device properly, a Bluetooth icon will have
appeared on your desktop.

3. Make sure your phone has Bluetooth capability and the Bluetooth function on your phone is enabled and detectable.
4. Click on “View Devices in range” in the menu on the left.

5. Once you can see your phone in the list, right click on the icon of the Phone. A menu will appear. Choose “Pair device”.
When pairing two devices with numeric input buttons (example: mobile phone, PDA, PC etc.), choose any pin code from 1-10 digits.The pin code must be the same on both devices being paired.
When pairing a device without numeric input buttons (example: headset, car kit), please enter default pin code 0000. The majority of devices will use pin code 0000, however default pin code 1234 is also used in isolated cases.
6. Enter ‘0000’ and press OK. In some rare cases you have to enter ‘1234’.
The next window will appear;

7. Your phone will then ask you to accept the connection, please enter the same pin code in the phone.
8. Once you have entered the pin code on the phone and you accept, the icon of the phone will appear with a red tick as in the image below.

When the phone is paired, you can double-click on the icon of your phone to see the profiles services on your phone. You can now start using the Bluetooth profiles.

Dial Up:
If you want a Dial-up connection, double click on Dial-up Networking and will ask you for a user name, password and telephone number to dial.
Obex File transfer: Double-click on this service to see the files on your phone. You can copy and paste files from the PC to this folder or from this folder to the PC by right­clicking on the file you wish to copy and pasting into the desired destination folder.
Using third party software
When using third party software, please make sure to configure the software you are using first. You will need to set PC Suite or Active Sync to use the same com port as that which the device is currently using.
How do I know what com port the device is using?
1. Go to “My Bluetooth places”
2. Go to “View my Bluetooth
Service”
3. When you see the “Bluetooth serial port” right click on it and select “Properties”
4. You will see which com port the Bluetooth device is currently using.
