To Test Straight Twisted Pair
(Shielded or Unshielded) Cables
1. Plug one end of the cable into the modular jack on the master unit and the other end into the modular jack of the remote terminator.
2. As soon as the Power is turned on, the LEDs on the remote terminator will start to scan each pair one by one. If the cable wiring is intact, the LEDs corresponding to each pair will illuminate green. If the LEDs illuminate green first and red afterwards or do not illuminate, the cable wiring is bad.
3. Straight-through vs. Crossover: If the LED lights up from top to bottom (1&2, 3&6, 4&5, 7&8), the cable is wired in a straight-through configuration. If the pairs are crossed, the LED will not light up from top to bottom; it will light up in a different order depending on how the pairs are crossed.
4. For RJ45 cables that have only 2 pairs (4 conductors) wired please refer to the LED guide printed on the remote terminator. In those applications only 2 of the LEDs will need to illuminate green to indicate a good cable.
5. For shielded cable, you may test the shielding by pushing the GND (Ground) button on. The pair LEDs and GND LED should all illuminate green except for pair 3 & 6. If any LEDs illuminate green first and red afterwards or do not illuminate, the shielding is bad.

Caution:
1. Do not connect the cable tester to a live circuit.
2. Make sure the 9-Volt alkaline battery is installed properly in the battery compartment.
