ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION + ADDRESSING
Important: The electrical installation should be carried out by qualified personal only, according to the regulations for electrical and mechanical safety in your country.
Gently unscrew the plastic dome from the plastic base
and separate both parts.
Place the plastic dome in a safe place so it won’t be
damaged during the installation.
If the LED BALL is used with one of the optional
adapters, make sure the base is mechanically well fixed before you start connecting the electrical wires.
Especially when the unit is installed outdoors, you
should use suitable cabling that withstands the weather conditions in your country (rain, sun, heat, cold, …)
On the base you will see 3 cable entry glands that
make it possible to make waterproof connections. Feed the cables from the outside through the cable entry glands.
Strip the cables and connect them to the
corresponding contacts. Please check the picture to see the different possibilities: A. Mains contacts: connect the mains power cable to the N and L contacts (100V~240V 50/60Hz).
Since the complete unit is made of plastic, you won’t find a ground connection. However you can connect an eventual ground wire to the dummy contact, next to the L contact.
B. DMX input contacts: use the DMX in/out contacts when you want to
control the unit by DMX or if you want to connect several units together in master/slave mode. In most cases you will have to connect the 3 contacts to a male XLR cable-connector. The numbering on the contacts of the unit correspond to the numbering of the contacts on the XLRconnector.
C. DMX output contacts: use the DMX in/out contacts when you want to
control the unit by DMX or if you want to connect several units together in master/slave mode. In most cases you will have to connect the 3 contacts to a female XLR cable-connector. The numbering on the contacts of the unit corresponds to the numbering of the contacts on the XLR-connector.
D. CA-8 remote controller: use the CA-8 contacts when you want to use the unit in stand alone and/or
master/slave mode. In most cases you will have to connect the 3 contacts to a female stereo 6.3mm JACK cable-connector. Check the drawing to see how the contacts must be wired.
Contact 1: jack connector ground.
Contact 2: Tip of the stereo jack.
Contact 3: Ring of the stereo jack.
When all cables are well connected, you must tighten the cable entry glands so the cables are fixed and
the unit is waterproof!
Remark: You don’t have to use connectors when the unit is used in a fixed installation. However we strongly suggest to use XLR & JACK cable connectors when the unit is used in mobile applications. (mobile DJs, hiring companies, …)
Electrical installation for 1 standalone unit:
Just install the mains cable (refer to point A)
Remark: You can connect a CA-8 remote controller to the unit if you want to have more control. Refer to section “D” to learn how to do this.
ENGLISH OPERATION MANUAL
Electrical installation for two or more units in master/slave:
Connect 2 to maximum 16 units together using good quality balanced microphone cables (like for
example JB Systems MC-01 cable). Refer to sections “B” and “C” to learn how to connect the units together. The unit that has no cable connected to its DMXinput will react as “master”, the others are the slave units.
Make sure that all units are connected to the mains.
When all units are connected together and switched on, you
still have to address all units to obtain nice multi channel chases. To do this, open the first unit (“master” unit) by unscrewing the dome from the base. On the inside of the base you will see the address button, indicated with “F” on the picture.
Press the address button once. All units will switch off and on
again to indicate that the addresses are set.
Close the master unit again.
Done!
Remark: You can connect a CA-8 remote controller to the master unit if you want to have more control over the master/slave operation. Refer to section “D” to learn how to do this.
Electrical installation for two or more units in DMX-mode:
The DMX-protocol is a
widely used high speed signal to control intelligent light equipment. You need to “daisy chain” your DMX controller and all the connected units with a good quality balanced cable (ex. JB Systems ref. MC-01). Refer to sections “B” and “C” to learn how to connect the units together.
To prevent strange behavior of the light effects, due to interferences, you must use
a 90 to 120 terminator at the end of the chain. Never use Y-splitter cables, this simply won’t work!
Make sure that all units are connected to the mains.
Each light effect in the chain needs to have its proper starting address so it knows which commands
from the controller it has to decode. In the next section you will learn how to set the DMX addresses.
How to set the DMX addresses:
There are 2 ways to set the DMX-address of the units:
A. Automatic DMX-addressing:
To save a lot of time (imagine the time it takes to set the DIP switches of 16 units…) you can set the DMX addresses of all units in the DMX-chain just by the push of a button. No need to calculate the starting address of each individual unit, this will be done for you!
Make sure the DMX cables of all units are connected.
Connect all units to the mains so they are switched on.
Open the first unit in the DMX chain by gently
Press the “address button” once. All units will switch off
Close the first unit again.

unscrewing the dome from the base. On the inside of the base you will see the “address button”, indicated with “F” on the picture.
and on again to indicate that the addresses are set. Please note that the first unit in the DMXchain always receives DMX-address 001. Since each unit uses 4 DMX-channels, the 2nd unit has start address 005, the 3rd has address 009, the 4

Remark: you can mix the units with other DMX-effects that don’t have the automatic DMXaddressing option. In that case you still have to set the DMX-addresses of these DMX-effects manually! Hint 1: you can also make the DMX-address of each unit 001 the first unit, then press the DMX-address button on the second unit, etc… All units will receive DMX-address 001. Hint 2: You can also give the same DMX-addresses to several units in the same chain: if for example you have 8 units connected to each other and you want 2 sets of 4 units, each with the same addresses then you do the following: press the DMX-address button on the 1 will be addressed starting from 001 for unit 1. ENGLISH OPERATION MANUAL
The operator has to make sure that the safety-relating and machine-technical installations are approved by an expert before using them for the first time. The installations should be inspected every year by a skilled person to be sure that safety is still optimal.
3 different fixing methods are possible:
Fixed to ceiling or truss (1m chain included)
Wall fixing (optional wall adapter available)
Pole mount (optional adapter for poles up to D=60mm available)
unit: unit 5 to 8 will be addressed again starting from 001 for unit 5. Units 1+5, 2+6, 3+7 and 4+8 will each have the same DMX-address.
B. Remote DMX-address setting by any standard DMX-controller:
An amazing feature is the “remote addressing system” that can be done with any ordinary standard DMX-controller! Remotely you can set the start address of the first unit and all connected units will automatically receive their proper addresses. To do this you must program a chase containing 2 scenes, each with 4 channels. To set the starting address you have to do a small calculation first using the following formula:
DMX Start address = (CH3 x 256) + CH4 + 1
In this formula CH3 can be 0 or 1 and CH4 can range from 000 to 255. Some examples to make this clear:
Start address = 010: CH3= 0 CH4= 9 [ (0 x 256) + 9 + 1 = 10 ]
Start address = 257: CH3= 1 CH4= 0 [ (1 x 256) + 0 + 1 = 257 ]
Start address = 403: CH3= 1 CH4= 146 [ (1 x 256) + 146 + 1 = 403 ]
Follow the these steps (in this example the start address is set to 403):
Make sure the DMX cables of all units are connected.
Connect all units to the mains so they are switched on.
Edit scene1: CH1= 0, CH2= 255, CH3= 1, CH4= 146
Edit scene2: CH1= 255, CH2= 0, CH3= 1, CH4= 146
Program these 2 scenes in a chase and run it to automatically set the DMX addresses.
You will notice that all units flash 1x to indicate that the addresses are set.
Press the blackout button on your controller 2times to set all units in blackout and back on.
Done: in this case the first unit has start address 403, the 2
nd
has address 407, the 3rd has
address 411, …
Remark: you can mix the units with other DMX-effects that don’t have the remote DMX-addressing option. In that case you still have to set the DMX-addresses of these DMX-effects manually!
OVERHEAD RIGGING
Important: The installation must be carried out by qualified service personal only. Improper installation can result in serious injuries and/or damage to property. Overhead rigging requires
